This is so incredibly helpful. I was looking for books at a thrift shop and accidentally bought five that had the spine ripped out because the dust cover covered it. I want to recycle the book but show respect to the art so this is perfect! Thank you!
Thank you so much. The way you have explained it makes it sound so much easier than other videos. I'm a practical learner so it's easier for me to pick things up after watching somebody else do it
I am sooo glad I came across your channel and especially this tutorial! I felt so intimidated by the paterns I've seen, but you have made it more approachable for me. Thank you so very much!!
There is an easier and quicker way to do letters than a book pattern. You can create a stencil on any basic pc drawing software, even paint. Make sure your letters are squashed together, i'd say between 1/2 and 3/4 the length you'd like the word to appear. Print, back with card and cut out. Place the stencil in the desired place and trace with a sharp pencil. I recommend clamping the book in some way, between your knees is the easiest way. (if using a paper-back book it may be an idea just to have a hard-back either side to prevent the book bending) As the letters are squashed it will look odd but don't forget folding the pages increases the thickness of the book. This way you mark all your pages in seconds, no fiddly measurements, and as long as your pencil is sharp, and so are your folds, the marks will not be visible. After this, fold away as the lady shows. This method works on most basic flat facing designs, for 3D sculptures it is best to use patterns.
Thanks a lot for this video. I did watch twice and I think I understood clearly the general instructions, but I am wondering how, at the end of the project, the folded up and down sides would look as, for example, the angle of the first page folded (up border) came out too far from the angle formed by the second page folded. I think it won’t look even, or I’m not figurating well... Would appreciate your comments. Tks again.
Hi, Debbi. How do I customize a book? I want to make several books with a different name for each. Will I be able to do that or will you make the patterns for me? My plan is to make these books for my Grandkids for Christmas. Thank you.
How do we get the paper folding guide with the measurements? I’m new to trying this and searched your craft page and also downloaded the app and don’t see it thsnks
My question is, how do you know how wide the book need to be. I know have the right number of pages and the right length but how do I know if the page is wide enough to make the fold?
Hi Debbi - can you please give us the information on the pattern book you showed with the keys you used - I cannot find something similar on the Internet, but I don't know the author or name of the book folding reference you used in this video. Thank you! Lynn
This whole video gives me so much anxiety. The markings and the folds and the numbers, I don’t know how it could be fun lol. BUT it is beautiful and I appreciate it as art and would love one as a gift 💛
Great question! Multiple folds are usually done with Two or three pages in a row: Page 1: top of letter ‘b’ Page 2: middle of letter ‘b’ Page 3: bottom of letter ‘b’ And then repeat. When it’s finished, you can’t tell that it used separate pages
Why would you mess up pages of a book to do this ? Then how would you read the book after you would fold the pages in it? & every time you want to do this you would need to buy a book every time. 🙄🤦🏻♂️
