Great tips and motivation to start to give this a crack. Love how you gave the safe jumps to start with and then the next steps to progress to. Have you found any board volume too low for jumps, meaning that don't land so well. or recover with?

Definitely easier to land on a bigger board, but what I’ve found is even more important is track placement. I’m posting a video tomorrow on my new board, and it has forward tracks. Landing jumps is so much easier and I can even lend on foil sometimes. It’s also a very light board and my jumps are much higher compared to my old board which is water logged.

@@wingmanfoilclub sweet thanks for the quick response. I am 176 pounds and ride anything from 35L 4'5 on good wind days to 60L - 4'8 on lower wind days. So sounds like go for a bigger board to start with and then progress down as you get more skilled. I was even thinking pull out a 75L 5'2 board to start with. Or do you think 75L would be too big or not helpful?

I think the 60 should be fine to start at your size. It’s not too hard. I’ve seen people land their first jumps or after just a couple tries.

Do u head upwind before u jump or best to jump on a reach across the wind

A reach across the wind will get you more speed which is necessary if there isn’t a lot of wind. But the chop usually comes in from upwind, so carving upwind last minute can give you a better ramp. Best situation is a reach across the wind with side shore wind and ocean waves coming in perpendicularly. That’s when you really fly.

@@dieterkem7894 haven’t had another go. I’d like to but I don’t really have a good set up for it at the moment. My current foil pumps pretty well. But it’s pretty small for dock starting. I might have to lose a few pounds and try again.

If you wrap duct tape around your footstrap you can have it tight fitting without your booties sticking.

I don’t have any experience with them, but I would think they wouldn’t be suited to winging and jumping. If the adhesive doesn’t fail, it might just rip the glass off the foam. I once installed inserts into a surfboard when I learned to kite, but they ripped right out of the board and they were glassed in. But you never know. I’m sure someone has tried it.

Only saw this just now, but yes, the NSI stick on mounts work really well. I had them on my prone board for over a year. They were miserable to peel off even after all this time. (Now that I have a real wing board, I never use the prone for wing) I took footage of my feet when riding with a GoPro to decide where to mount them. The problem people have with them coming unstuck is usually due to tightening the screws to far it seems. The screw will bottom out and start to push stick on mount off board.

I don’t lie! That’s why I tell people not to jump that foil! Sorry that happened. Try and get it warrantied by AXIS. Might get you a new one. I think they have a stronger laminate now or something.
