No such thing as Skinny fat, which is basically, a person that doesn’t lift, skinny arms and legs but has a fat stomach. So I wouldn’t say skinny fat, just say fat or overweight and not in shape.

I have a bachelor's and post graduate degree in Dietitics and over 20years of experience working with athletes. Mike byfar this is one of the best ways of explaining Nutrition to any one who's serious about achieving their fitness goals. I wish you were on the teaching faculty when we were learning. Everything is very theoretical. Unless you have a visual idea of what a 100calorie (from a healthy source) looks like, you'll never realize how much it can change your results. Also Mike your take on exercise and training too are precise, scientific and easy to understand. Thank you for your channel. I highly recommend it to all.

I've been going to the gym for quite consistanly for a year now 3 times per week, but injured myself in a biking accident that resulted me having a nerve injury in my shoulder and for me to be off from weight lifting for about 1.5 months. In the past 1.5 months have been doing pretty much nothing other than eating more junk/normal food and drinking and have gained about 4kg of extra weight. A few days ago I got to the gym for the first time and felt great. Now seeing a new video from Mike gets me more motivated to lose that extra fat than anything. Thanks!

@@Zero3Ronin I'm not Jasper but I'll chime in on my own experience. At 57, I'm 5'11" and started my weight loss at 223lbs (156lbs lean mass) eating on average 1,850 calories a day. I can lose about 1.5lbs a week on that (I'm down 8 lbs since Dec26th/2022). If I eat 2,000 calories a day I'll go some all week not losing any weight at all or at best maybe down 0.5lbs. I figure my maintenance is around 2,200 a day. More than that and I gain weight. And I'm in the gym 2-3 times a week and I get in about 3-4 hours walking a week. Everybody is different, someone with 180lbs of lean mass might have a maintenance of 2,800 cals a week but if I ate like that I'd gain two lbs just on the weekend.

@lKingRichardl
@lKingRichardl 4 года назад
This is one of the most concise and informative videos on this topic I’ve ever watched. Anyone looking to achieve what the title says needs to pay serious attention to what mikes saying. I’ve struggled myself a lot with the whole “mon-fri cut cut cut” and the turning the weekend into a massive binge fest....it’s not sustainable if you want to improve your physique and I’m still coming to terms with that myself. Two things I will add are a) fat is an important macronutrient so seek high quality fat sources (pink fish, eggs, nuts) and don’t eliminate fat completely at any point while cutting or bulking. And b) mike mentions it a couple times throughout the vid but consistency (both in the gym and with the diet) is what will give you what you desire.

Thanks for this video Mike! Made a few things a little clearer. I'm currently stuck in a little bit of a 'skinny fat' phase, but that's mainly due to losing about 25 kg in the last 2 years (which I am extremely proud of btw, I was obese :P) and i was going to leave it at that, but you keep motivating me to keep eating healthy and keep reaching for those heavier weights and over the last 3-4 months, I have definitely started to notice a difference. I've stopped obsessing over my weight displayed on the scale and started obsessing about how much my body is changing when I look at it in the mirror. I'm taking progress photos so hopefully one day I can share this with you and others to possibly motivate someone else who was struggling at the beginning. Have a wonderful evening!

Mike I was hanging out for this video! I brought my calories up to 3,000 just for gags over the last three days and I put on 2kg haha. It was nice I wanted a little break from 2,000 calories. I have been avoiding gradually increasing my calories for quite some time now. I heard another youtuber give the same advice a while back. He said add 50 calories a week so I was like what the hell thats going to take forever. I like your strategy better. I am training 5 days a week and I have a lot of muscle on me. I have a gut when I bend over/sit down so that’s what I’m trying to work on at the moment. No six pack sitting around 20% body fat. Very keen to work on my metabolism. It’s summer in Australia so awkward timing but hey who cares lol. Thanks again for another awesome video!
