Thank you Allan for the talk. I’m suffering from burnout. Sometimes I really am afraid I’ll never get my own self back ever. I’ve been on sick leave for 1 1/2 years. I can’t work for more than 10 hours a week it seems - tried that the last 6 months. It feels like most people including Allan use the word burnout for conditions that are more mild than the “clinical term” burnout... or... I don’t know... At least in comparison to his case I must then have extreme severe burnout! I know this talk is made for the very best intensions. But being in the middle of a severe burnout i almost start feeling worse when in try all I can to find someone sharing in details how they slowly managed to bounce back again. When you have burnout you ARE really one your own is the sad truth I seem to have learned. I’ve been working 50+ hours a week for 15 years with joy but got cptsd - narcissistic abuse from my work (narc boss) which made me burned out so much that I had to quit in the end, even though my working place meant the world to me (created most of it myself) but the boss destroyed everything. I’ve given my self the diagnose cptsd. I’ve tried so many things, but it seems like I have not talked to or heard one detailed story about how exactly a person in a position that could be in some way similar to mine got back again. Does online know of a link to someone talking about their journey back again!? Thank you all and thank you Allan

I have a bit similar story of yours. I’ve officially been diagnosed PTSD by psychiatrist. I do have depression, severe anxiety and burn out. Usually these 3 symptoms go hand in hand. PTSD doesn’t go without depression, and anxiety. I’ve been in these condition due to narcissistic bosses, narcissistic ex husband. After divorce I fell into this condition. All I can say and recommend, what really works for me is therapy with my psychologist and mild antidepressant. So at least I can function and get up from bed. Work so far has been greatest challenge. But as I said, burn out is very similar to depression. And there is no direct way of healing depression. You just need to find what works for you. If you don’t try there will be no result. Wishing you peace and healing ❤️‍🩹

Hey Jordan. Without understanding your history of what you went through, it's a bit tough to give exact recommendations, especially over this message. What I can tell you is that I had applied in my life what I had learned from my 10+ years of research on burnout and that's how I came up with the acronym AIR. I had used Aspiration Integration and Rejuvenation to recover from a few bad burnouts. The first burnout was because I overworked. The second was because of bad relationship. As a part of Rejuvenation, I meditated, practiced yoga and qigong everyday for about a year. It also gave me time to reflect what's going on with my life and what's most important for me. I've also shared AIR with my clients and they found great results even though they were skeptical at first. Meditate, yoga, qigong and Taichi may not be for you. Maybe it's going for a hike in nature or go on a road trip to a national park. It could be as simple as take short naps during the day as well. What is something that you can do that will relax you and help you feel grounded?

Part of the problem with burnout is WE CAN'T SLEEP. Honestly, doesn't seem like the speaker knows or understands true burnout where you lie awake most the night despite sleep aids used to STOP the nightmares about the horror that is your job. It has turned me into someone I no longer recognize. The things suggested are things I did a year ago. There is no way to get fired up anymore.

Employees are more and more treated like their job and task is the central part of their life. Like you are on survival mode. It is not. Whenever I am hired on a project I have to spend around 70 hours a week to keep it rolling and still it looks like I'm slacking; so my income is actually less than half I was contracted for. AIR: Aspiration: what are you working for? Do you feel it's worth your time and energy, or are you just tossing more coal in the misery engine? (I find this one to be a struggle personally) Integration: you are a multipolar individual who needs to act in multiple spheres. If you make promises in one sphere that take you too far away from another you will suffer. Rejuvenation: a car can't go 65 on the highway forever. My only advice is to always listen to your gut because at times your heart and your mind will direct you off of a cliff even though you trust them fully. Life reveals it's truth in layers that take time to unfold so don't ever be too certain of what you think that you know to be true because that moment of hubris when you believe that you finally know what's up is the endorphins in your brain firing off to blind you from the pain as an angel clips your wings. Nobody knows that they are falling until they hit the cold hard ground.

Burnout sucks, everything become out of control and somewhat depressing, and when we do everything to finish stuff and the outcome is still bad, it really become depressing life, yet everyone in your family only blames you when everything gone wrong, no wonder some people gone insane....

Maybe we could just change the way we work so that burnout just doesn't fuckin happen. Maybe drop working hours from 8 to 5 or 6 hours a day. Maybe paid vacation and parental leave by law. Maybe don't have a work culture where a job is more important than anything else in life. Crime is the best way to thrive in this world.

How to overcome burnout: have people think you overcome burnout without them realizing that you just quit working. Is your mom proud of your new career as a motivational speaker: yes. Do I actually get new cognitive skills in coping with burnout: NO!

Why do the HRs of the big companies ask each other instead of asking employees about what THEY need in order not to burn out? Maybe less pressure from above? Less tasks, less stress, more support, more flexibility, more vacation, more employees hired to spread tasks, whatever?

Hello Houborg, I wish I had a great advice for you, but here's what I believe: 1. Try finding out the cause, maybe a new job responsibility or you're anxious about something that's to happen. This can greatly affect our routine and patterns. 2. Search yourself for what environment or people or task/hobbies that makes you feel more relaxed and happier and do that more. 3. Find a solution to your discovery in step 1. You don't have to figure out a perfect solution. Involve someone you believe might help you out.

Do a little soul searching. Find out what it is you want to do with your life. Try a new career, or find a hobby. Do like I used to jump from job to job, acquiring new and useful skills. There are thousands of things that you can do to combat this. It's like anything else in this world. It is a test of faith and resolve. I'll pray that God gives you the strength to get through this difficult time in your life. But, just like your God-given free will and the choices you make, it is up to you to determine what you wanna do with your life. God bless.

This is unrealistic for a lot of Americans. A lot of us cannot afford to travel or take days off or don’t work for companies who are willing to be flexible enough to let us set boundaries.
@wwlee5
@wwlee5 2 года назад
Absolutely. That's why we need a contingency plan when you really can't take it anymore but also consider addressing whether it's financial issues that would result from taking days off, which means what can we do to substitute the chance in employment or how can I reduce my expense? For example, my job can translate into virtual online-type of work though salary would be reduced by a lot down to 1/3 (I work 80 hours per week with no overtime pay and I didn't account for my half-hr lunch per day); however, still livable since I don't splurge on anything, etc etc. Prepping when the time comes is something all Americans need to do when you just mentally explode. Sell the house, live in a $400 per month room. Tell your kids to join ROTC in college to pay for college and if they don't want to get deployed...just be an I.T. or a military dentist officer, etc. There's no easy solution...but we each have to map contingencies.
@elisabetaeross1454
@elisabetaeross1454 2 года назад
@@wwlee5 There is no 400 per month room. And even then that’s not counting all of the other expenses, utilities, gas, insurances. All of these things are important. You are out of touch and you don’t speak for the average working American which makes up well over 50% of the workforce.

What the big companies who are running full speed are doing to avoid burning out their employees.? They are replacing them with fresh workers every 2-3 years.
@concerned3302
@concerned3302 3 года назад
Exactly!!!!! Many people are furthering the Red Herring that PEOPLE should shoulder the entire burden. The reality is that corporations couldn't care less about burnout and this propaganda prevents people from saying, "wait a second. Capital is intentionally killing Labor." Over the last 80 years Corporations have methodically undermined the power that employees had. Now, as Constantino said, employees have almost no power, are blamed for corporate orchestrated burnout and then replaced.

@Cecilia Cole I'm sorry to hear that you felt like this is propaganda. I do not get any sponsorship, monetary value, and any personal gains from any of the companies and/or anyone. The intended talk is to not just help everyday people, but also a calling to these company execs that things are not working. IE that's why I had called out HR leaders don't know what to do. It's my sincere hope that there are better ways to live and work - and in that order. Hope this clarifies your statement.

@Cecilia Cole Do you expect to be paid for 40 hours of work if you didn't work it? That seems to be the thing you're missing here. Technology has allowed us to do more with our time. It increases production over the same 40 hours.
