Ever wanted to learn how to braid button jesses for falconry? In this video I’ll show you how. I have been braiding falconry equipment since 2016. When I first started learning I struggled to find falconry-specific instructions, or any instructions for that matter. So I decided to make the videos I wished I had when I began. I’ll be showing you the basics of how to braid, as well as some techniques I’ve learned through years of trial and error.
If you have any questions, drop them in the comments below and I will get back to you. If you have found these videos to be helpful, please like & subscribe.
Be sure to watch the other 3 videos in this series!
If you have found that braiding is not for you, I’d be happy to make you a custom set. Contact me @

I’d love to see a video on how to apply a brass collar and how to use solid buttons like the Celtic knot and Buffalo buttons you use. Phenomenal work!!

Very well done. I have to echo the others here as well. Pretty much the best braiding videos I have seen. You make it so clear that I think I might actually be able to do it myself.. Cheers!

I have been making 8 braid jesses like this for about 5 years. Using wax is a great idea that helps keep the strands in place and tight while braiding. I was initially concerned about using the super glue to finish off the end but I have never had one come apart. Thanks for putting out a great video.

Thank you so much for this video! One question, where do you source your buttons? I bought some on amazon but the holes were too small to fit all the strands through so I ended up drilling them slightly bigger which probably compromises the strength of the button itself. They also seem quite heavy when doubled up.. I am having no luck finding them!

Thank you! It’s a vice used for tying flies. You can pick a cheap one up at cabela’s or sportsman’s warehouse.

So do you think that the Atwood Rope stuff would be adequate for a red-tail? Specifically a big female western?
@dougclark4561
@dougclark4561 Год назад
Short answer... Yes, more than adequate. Long answer... the tensile strength (or essentially the breaking weight) of a single strand of the Atwood 1.13mm Micro Cord is 100lbs. and this tutorial is for an 8-strand braid. I'm not an engineer so I'm really not sure about whether the combined strength of an 8-strand braid results in a true linear increase in strength (i.e. 8 strands x 100lbs. per strand = 800lbs). However, the breaking strength of an 8-strand braid it is certainly much greater than the breaking strength of a single strand. Remember, most Red-tails are trapped with a monofilament noose on a pigeon vest or BC trap and the test weight of the monofilament used to trap a RT is typically 30-40lbs breaking strength... the Atwood micro cord she recommends is 2.5-3x that strength. The reality is, the breaking weights of the other materials that she recommends are even stronger than that and as far as breaking strength are actually way way beyond what is actually necessary... but if you used less or smaller cord, a leash wouldn't have any heft or substance to it and would cut into your hand. I've even hear stories from some falconers of using their Spectra or Dyneema made leashes to help tow their car out of the mud.
