Honestly, breaking 90 is all about playing smart calculated golf. Lay up, don’t try to crush the ball, take your time, and have a good buddy with you who can make you feel more relaxed.

I think it’s more about consistent contact. You can play smart golf all day but most high handicap golfers can’t hit the ball consistently at all. You can’t break 90 if you fat or thin a third of your shots.

The thing that got me over the hump was short game! My coach got me to the point where I had more 1 putts than 3 putts. Also he had me develop a go to 25, 50, and 75 yard shot with my sand wedge. Now I have 3 swings and distances with each wedge. Also learn and master 2 shots around the green. A bump and run, pick one club and stick with it, I use a PW! Also a chip and run I have 3 sets of distances for carry and run out for both my SW and LB! It took me a solid year-year and a half to get this all down, but when you do you’ll be shooting mid to low 80s consistently and breaking 80 more than shooting in the 90s! Putting trust me will come for the ride!

I'm officially 12 rounds of golf in to my addiction 😅. Let me start by saying I was raised by many golf courses in my life and in my later in my early 30s even helped renovation on a beautiful course in pine knoll shores NC. I thought I knew how to swing a club..... first mistake, granted I wasn't bad I just had bad habits. I started my first round about 2 months ago with a staggering 128, from the white tees. Just this past weekend while taking my kids out with me I shot a 91. I am progressively getting better and lot of the credit has to do with your videos and some like yours. Keep up the good work and thank you for your help.

You shot a 128 and 2 months later shot a 91? That’s insane progress in only 12 rounds. I’m very curious over a year later what you’ve gotten your handicap down to, congrats on the rapid improvement!

The 3 putt stigma doesn’t seem to take into account an approach shot that barely makes it into the green and leaves an undulating distance of 35,45, 60 ft or more. Yes we have greens that big here. I don’t mind a three putt from that distance one bit. For me the best way to reduce those 3 putts is to get within 20-25 feet on the approach more often. My historical putting average is 1.86 with maybe 3 rounds a season coming in at 1.5 or so.

It’s my 100-140 yard shots that get me in trouble. The putting is mint, the bump and runs on, the wedge game, all fine. It’s when I run into Pitching Wedge-8 iron territory that I really struggle

Putting is starting to improve. I just need to work out my driver but it's the approach shots that kill me. Hitting GIR makes me feel like a tour pro 😂

Reckon I three putt at least 6 holes a round. Cant figure distance at all. Always miss from 5 feet.

For me it’s not the three putts it’s the 8 and 9’s that can suddenly come when I have been going along nicely

Had a 10 on 17 my last time out. A par and a bogey and I would have finished at 85 but ended up at 93. Still never broke 90 and days like that make me feel like I never will

@@colebaker___ I can so relate to that, in our winter league comp I won the other week 41 stapleford points with 3 NR’s. Two of them holes where I get two shots 😂😂

Ouch. We have all been there and it stinks. Remember, the only shot that matters in the next one. Play smart and eliminate stupid strokes. Better to just accept that bogey than turning it into a triple. No, you cant hit that 1 ft gap thru the trees, just get it back to fairway. 😂😂. Guilty!!
@guyr7351
@guyr7351 Год назад
@@fuzzybanana9128 my shots through gaps in trees are inversely proportional to the size of the gap, bigger = nailed on to hit the tree

Mr. Srixon, love the videos. Even bought a set of clubs off of your advice, but it always looks like you’ve just been jump scared.

Best advice to breaking 90 is think, think, think and think again. Before every shot and have a routine, the 4 iron stinger under the trees may look amazing but would it be more sensible to chip back on the fairway 😅
@fuzzybanana9128
@fuzzybanana9128 Год назад
A far better tip is eliminate the unnecessary mistakes, play smart. If you cant hit your 5 iron 185 yrds then why are going for the green over water or a bunker? Why are you hitting a wood off the tee when a 5 iron and 7 iron gets you to green? So many golfers cant put their pride aside and continually attempt shots they just dont have, why? If your driver is horrible that day put it away and use a 5 wood. Better 230 in the fairway than 275 in the tulleys. Second best tip is quit using just 1 club for all your chipping around the green. I use darn near every club in the bag minus driver. 8 & 9 irons are beasts for short chips off good lies and its just like putting. A 5 or 7 wood is great in the rough for that tricky shot to just carry 2-3-4 ft and land to get rolling.

I play off 11 and often break 90. But even then i still have 3 or 4 three-putts. I hit the ball quite well but putting kills me.

Buy a putter you love the feel of, and cost doesnt matter. My avg last yr was 31 putts per rnd over 30 rnds, so just under 2 per hole avg. I use a $159 cleveland huntington beach. Before that i used a $60 top flight gamer. My taste is a very soft feel putter so i feel like i can hit the ball, but have control. Most putters imo now have a firm to very firm feel that makes them extremely hard for me to control, way to touchy, especially on fast greens. Dont fall into the trap of a $400-500 putter will make you better, it wont. Feel and practice make you better. You also use it more than any other club, so take your time picking one, and try a ton of them that your eyes like. I spent about 2 hrs in store putting with 12-15 diff to pick current one i use. I am a firm believer a midsize mallet with oversize grip will improve anyones game that putts poorly. If you are using a blade and 3-4 putting theres your problem. Imo blades are great for good putters, death to bad putters. My buddy was horrible, 40-45 putts a rnd and refused to give up my old blade ping i gave him. I finally took it out of his bag while he was paying which forced him to use the mid mallet i put in his bag. By the 5th hole he wasnt mad anymore and admitted he liked it. After 8-10 rnds he rarely 3 putts anymore.

@@fuzzybanana9128 thanks for that. Lots of good ideas. I have a Scotty Cameron Laguna that I bought 25 years ago new for $130 (good luck doing that now!) It’s a great putter and I won’t change it. I think it’s the piece of s*** holding the putter that’s the problem! Also the greens at my home course have a lot of slope. That’s my excuse anyway. I like the idea of tracking putting stats. That might help give more focus.
@fuzzybanana9128
@fuzzybanana9128 Год назад
@@EdnaMillion. tracking putts and using an oversize grip i would think will help. The overaize grip keeps from twisting which keeps face more square. There is a reason why most pros use them. As far as the Cameron, thats a blade if its that old. Great putter but i think you should at least go hit some mid mallets to feel the diff, it might blow you away. I swore i would never play those ugly ass things and now i dont ever see myself using a blade again. Mallets are soooi easy to putt with. Good luck. ✌️
