I’d wish Traxxas would come out with a Tmaxx 4.0. It should be 1 inch wider and a 1/2 inch longer than a current Maxx V2. Please also have it with a quick release body. Price should be $499. I’d promise to buy one for me and another one for my son. Come on Traxxas, one for your heritage. The Tmaxx is what put you guys on the global scene.

Yea late to the game I have an original 2.5 & a 3.3 so yea they’re 13 & 11 years old respectively I just bought a new 3.3 (3/7/21) You’re using that rubber on the exhaust pipe to keep the nitro off the tires, arm, and shocks correct? Do you notice any dip in power using it? I’ve never used one, but as I get older I think so like to spend less time cleaning them..lol

Can I use an inferred thermometer to monitor engine temperature during break-in?
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+Dallas Lynch Yes, but you should make sure to get a thermometer that is meant for nitro RC. If you do not and stick the laser down close to the cooling head to take temps the gun is going to give false high temps. The ratio for how far the temp gun should be away from the target is very important when taking the temps. Also the emissivity settings are important and are usually suggested to be set to 77E.

@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+luke curtis No, don't run it completely put of fuel. Some people actually run down to a half tank and then refuel and run it back down to half again to achieve a full tank. That way you won't have any half tank leaning issues.

I've always just idled the first tank through, then kept it off the ground and monitored temps to 225c and went 1/4 throttle on second tank 1/2 throttle 3rd tank, 3/4 throttle on 4th tank, 5th tank lean it out a bit and start to drive it around but I don't ever really drive it hard till it's got a bottle through it. Never had a traxxas nitro though. My last one my buddy was ripping it around when it changed gears he lost control and a vehicle ran it over. It just destroyed the motor but there's alot of good parts on it still, I'm going to rebuy the fw07 chassis and use whatevers salvageable as a parts car

@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+MR jdizzle86 If you mean it won't stay idling you can try screwing in the idle screw a little bit or could be the glow plug might need changing. Could be an air leak in the fuel system. I would start with the idle screw. The check or change the glow plug followed by checking the fuel system for leaks.
@MRNITROGAMER

Average Joe Nitro i meant for the lsn tuning after the pinch test was at 3 seconds and set , my idol was good sitting still then go really high after a high speed run, but you could tap the throttle and it would go down to normal?
@AB-80X
@AB-80X 4 года назад
@@MRNITROGAMER Forget the pinch test for now. Start with factory settings for the HSN and LSN. Set your carb gap @ 0.5mm. USE A FEELER GAUGE FOR THIS! Don't eyeball it, because you need it to be proper. When you start it up and it will not stay idling, it cuts out due to flooding, turn the LSN in 1/4 of a turn. Do this till it will stay running. Once you hit a spot where it stays running, back out the LSN to get your idle down, but not so low that the engine cuts out. Tune your HSN and finish off by leaning out your LSN afterwards.

Is it true you shouldn't run the tank empty when breaking in? If so what happens if you do by accident?
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+Andrew Douglas Yes, all nitro vehicles tend to lean out as the tank empties. This happens because there isn't as much pressure forcing the fuel into the carb when there is less fuel in the tank as there is when the tank is full. It's not good to do especially during break in. It's best to keep the tank full and work down to half a tank and then refuel. So if you were needing to run a full tank before letting it cool, I would advise running it to half, refuel, and then running it back down to half again. This leaning out condition is referred to as half tank lean out. Hope that helps!
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+Andrew Douglas It's not something that's going to destroy your engine by any means, just a good practice to get into when breaking it in to assure the engine is receiving the maximum amount of lubrication possible. If you are running a very rich break in needle settings then you have nothing to worry about. Preheating the engine is the single most important thing you can do on a engine until broken in.... Followed by keeping the engine Temps between 200-220 while breaking in.

i was in the middle of breaking in my traxxas.then i smash it in a post. the shock tower was broken..i was not able to finish breaking it in.. can i break in again when i change the shock tower? thanks and one more thing whats the problem if a truck is jerking , its like to take off in idle or in stop.
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+t maxx Yes, you can continue where you left off when it's repaired. It sounds like you have the idle too high if the truck is sitting at idle and jerking. Back the idle screw out a very small amount after you start the engine until it stops jerking. This happens when the idle is so high that the clutch is slightly engaging when at a very high idle. Hope this helps!
@semjr.3081
@semjr.3081 7 лет назад
i actually did that already.. i almost back the idle screw all the way down..but its to low because the engine stalls.
@semjr.3081
@semjr.3081 7 лет назад
It's not jerking when I start. It's start jerking when I ran maybe 1/8 to 1/4 of the tank.
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+t maxx Sounds like you might just be a little lean on the LSN. The tune will change quite a bit as the engine comes up to operating temp. If it's a jerking at idle then I would richen the LSN. I might not be fully understanding exactly what you are referring to. Usually if the truck is jerking it's either a lean issue, clutch issue, or a high idle. Also possibly air bubbles in the fuel line. Take a look at the fuel tubing going into the carb and see if there are tiny air bubbles in the line. If so you will need to eliminate the source of the air coming into the system. Hope that Is a little more helpful!

I've done several Traxxas engines, hpi engines and IS engines. I know this is Traxxas break in method but you habe to remember that they always want parts to break and not last as long as they can so you soend more money. The the best way to break in a Nitro motor is get a hairdryer and heat up the block to 200 degrees then let it idle for 3 tanks but after each tank you let it sit and cool back down. do not put any load on the motor until you've let it idle atleast one tank. preferably 3. With with the Traxxas break in method your looking at 3 to 5 gallon engine life. With proper break in you can get 10+ and also more power and efficiency.
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 8 лет назад
+Amateur RC Yes, I completely agree with you! I have a heat cycle break in method on my channel also where I broke in a Kyosho KE25 engine and is still running strong at 6 gallons. I prefer the heat cycle method as well and do it on my engines. I am, however just putting several methods out there for instructional purposes because that's what I am aiming at for the purpose of my channel. Here is a link to the video I made on the heat cycle method it is a 2 part video series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-g2nBXwqyqdaM.html Thanks for your input! Have a good one!
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 8 лет назад
For some reason the heat cycle method video link isn't working for me on my phone (I'm at work right now) but if you take a look at my video list on my channel you can't miss it! I go over the preheating and everything you are talking about on that video! Thanks for watching!
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 8 лет назад
I also believe that traxxas does this method for several reasons. Of course I don't know for sure but my theory is that this method is a lot easier to communicate to the end user than all of the details of a proper heat cycle method (of which there are many anyways). They also claim that their method also breaks in more than just the engine IE: brakes, slipper clutch, clutch etc... I'm sure you are also aware that there are many different factors that will ultimately determine the life of an engine, such as, the environment you run in, how often the air filter is changed and proper oiling of the filter. How lean you run the engine. Type of fuel and the percentage of oil content. Quality etc... If you preheat tour engine each time before it's fully loosened up and peaks in power. And the list goes on. Anyways, just thought I'd share some of my thoughts on the reason why they use the method.
@potjnkye86
@potjnkye86 8 лет назад
+Average Joe Nitro I'm glad you didnt get offensive like many have. I was just stating that the heat cycle method will get you much longer run time. my first 2 3.3 trx engines on my T-maxx only lasted 3-5 gallons. I habe a new one on it now that I did the heat cycle method and wow at the power difference. much more low end torque and higher tip speeds. right now I'm working on getting the internal components to turn my OS max .30vg from bump start to pull start. then it's going in a revo. I habe 3 revo. one is a stock 3.3, the other is the 3.3 chassis that the OS is going in and lastly is the shorter chassis 2.5 version that I'll be adding an E-maxx brushless tyranny and make it brushless. I do not buy Traxxas electrics. I buy the Nitro rollers and convert them. an MT with a plastic chassis is just asking to be broken. I'l be subscribing. I hope you do the same for me. I have 3 hpi Nitro RS4 3 Evo+ I'll be uploading tonight.

Hey avg Joe, thank you for the video lot of good info. have a question for you. once broken in how long does a tank of fuel last while running and also what the temperature for each tank on the break in. pls advice buying a slayer in a few weeks for my birthday and doing some research and your video was very straightforward on break in. thanks again and have a wonderful day.
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+Santiago Bodden I would say you should get at least 10 mins of run time each tank. This is of course depending on your driving style. (if you have a heavy finger like I do lol) You want your temperature to get to between 200-230 during break in. This is very important for a long engine life. If you want to go a step extra that is of MAJOR help in increasing life. Get a heat gun or hair dryer and warm up the head to as close to 200 as you can before starting. You will want to do this for the first 10 of so tanks I would advise. You should check out my heat cycle engine break in video on my video page. It is called "Kyosho KE25 engine break in using the heat cycle method" I would strongly advise using this method if I were going to do it again. I have had excellent results with the heat cycle method! Just make sure to rotate your flywheel to where the piston is at bottom dead center when cooling between runs. Let me know if you have any other questions. Be sure to check out the other videos. It is a 2 part video.

@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+Bart Goulooze Yes but I would strongly suggest that you have a look at my channel and watch the two part video series on breaking in a nitro engine via the heat cycle method. I personally believe that the heat cycle method is the best method that one can use. It involves running the first tank or two with the RC set on a stand or box etc... With no load placed on the engine. You can also watch how I break-in the dynamite .31 Gasoline Engine and get a good idea of how the heat cycle method is done. I hope you have a successful break in.... And always remember to preheat the engine before starting it until you get it broken in. Also always rotate the flywheel to bottom dead center when letting it cool. Those two things are very important to have a long engine life!

+Bart Goulooze You can. Each manufacturer has their own method. This video is strictly showing the traxxas method. I do not think that this is one of the beat methods. I like to use the heat cycle method. If you look at my channel you will see a two part series on how to break in a nitro engine using a heat cycle method.

hey man u just bought a new tmaxx 2.5 and I stars to break it in first tank and instead of accelerating it jerks and jolts like the clutch is catching and letting go quickly I have to give it quarter throttle to get it to grab. is that normal? thanks
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+John Smith It sounds like it could just be because of the rich setting and the clutch isn't grabbing firmly because of the low rpm. Only other thing it could be is possibly a little bit of bearing oil has gotten in the clutch bell. I would take the clutch bell off and have a look inside to be sure it is oil free. While you have it off you can clean it with alcohol or brake cleaner to be sure there is no oil. Also make sure the spring is not damaged. I have never ran a hot racing clutch before. I know there are several manufacturers that make clutch setups for it. I believe that bukku makes one if I recall? They are great clutches. I could be wrong though. Hope that helps!

I Break-in, and Run my Traxxas Nitro's. Using the: Traxxas 33% Nitro Fuel. The 33% Nitro Traxxas Fuel, Burns cleaner. Your Fuel consumption lasts longer, and it has the same: Oil-Package as the: 10%, 20%, Traxxas Nitro Fuel.

thats bad for trx engines apparently, according to the break in manual for my traxxas jato 3.3 that I got today.
@unfortunately_fortunate2000
@unfortunately_fortunate2000 6 лет назад
for red cat nitro cars though, you're only supposed to let'er idle for the first tank, while its running rich, than for the rest of the tanks, gradually increase the speed while keeping it running richly. dunno where you got this: let it sit for 3 tanks method from.. lmao.

One thing i would recommend that even Traxxas dont mention is make sure your piston is at the bottom while it cools off...if your piston is pinched it's gonna shink and your not gonna get much life .just like your car engine piston always stays at the bottom . common sense.
@kaycee9337
@kaycee9337 2 года назад
@Chris Sap no you do it when you shut off the engine that it's hot if the Piston is pinched on top you're not really breaking it incorrectly you want no pinch on top when it's cooling down so when you shut it off make sure you got the Piston to the bottom it should be easy to move back and forth with your finger. The easiest way to put a little black mark on the bottom of the flywheel so you could know it's at the bottom
@kaycee9337
@kaycee9337 2 года назад
@Chris Sap okay you don't have to pull the glow plug out at all you can tell it's at the bottom when you turn it it gets hard to turn that means the Pistons to the top keep turning it till it feels free that will be the bottom. And no after you break it in it should always land to the bottom where you could move it left and right so after like 5:00 6:10 you shouldn't have to do it it should fall on the down position just always check until it goes to the bottom three or four times on its own then you know you did a good break and if that piston stays to the bottom

What if it shifts into 2nd
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 8 лет назад
+Richard Aldridge It's just a good idea to keep it from shifting until you get to full throttle passes. If it's shifting into second gear then you would just simply need to adjust your shift point later by turning the screw inside the transmission.

Seems so much better just to break in an electric motor and be on your way. I do miss nitro engines, listening the engine run and all. Just going through bad dealers, giving you bad break in information. Then on some piece of crap $400 dollar 4x4 just breaking it in, parts were falling off. Yes, just sitting there and let it idol. I ended up buying a $300 dollar motor for that, and bought a $200 dollar motor for a totally different car. I am over 6,000 ft in elevation that plays a roll. Well the new $300 dollar motor made the whole truck when broken in, flip on its back. The $200 dollar motor made my Traxxas I think Revo? The Revo hauled butt! later flipped over and the car landed on the heat sink knocking out the piston connection inside making the motor not work. Only found this out later after I took and sold it to a different seller for a low price after arguing what I thought the problem was. He found out I was right and dicked me out of part of the sale telling me he sold it for a lower price then I was asking for it. Nitro's have just been a very expensive cost for me. I sold all my nitro's 12 years ago for one of the Baja 5b when they first came out. Simple break in, but ran like a champion!

3.3 ? Is that horse power?
@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 8 лет назад
+FUNNY FUDGE MAN The 3.3 value in a TRX 3.3 engine means the engine is a 3.3 cubic centimeter displacement.(metric system) If I remember correctly it converts into a more commonly known . 20 engine. When you see engine sizes such as. 21. 25. 28. 30. 32 etc... This is the engine displacement in inches.

@averagejoenitro2730
@averagejoenitro2730 7 лет назад
+Brian Shafer When they are tuned in really well they are a great little engine! They are a very finicky engine to tune in my opinion. Especially the LSN. It is very very touchy! When it's tuned well it will Wheelie on demand and is a high revving engine. If you dont mind tweaking the tune a lot then they are good little engines. They are very affordable also. So yes I like them but they are far from my favorite! The easiest tuning engine I have ever had is a Kyosho KE25. I also have a Novarossi Rex Legend 28-8 that is a modified engine..... and it screams!

When was this method the thing to do as far as break ins? In the mid 1980’s? That’s how long it’s been since traxxas updated their manual😂. Think I will stick with the Adam Drake’s method for break ins.
