Wow. Absolutely awesome video. Thank you so much. When would you separate the two parents again? Or do you even have to separate them if you only owned two canaries
Hi I subscribed to your channel. Very informative videos. I once raised one nest of canaries, it was four babies. It was 30 years ago. They were red factor canaries. The book I read about it said to cut burlap up into 1 inch squares and pull it apart for nesting materials. I did and they used it. It also said do not use cotton and I noticed you mentioned that in your video.Have you ever heard of using burlap for nesting materials?
I have a quick question for you. I bought a male gloster. loved to sing. decided to get him a girlfriend to breed. as soon as i introduced her he stopped talking, barely makes peeps but they get along. is this because theyre in the same cage without a divider so he has no reason to sing anymore, he found a mate? would introducing a metal grid divider so theyre technically separate, but in the same cage make him sing again? or, did he stop singing cause he needs to get used to her?
Not always! In general when a female builds a nest that does mean that she is ready to breed and eggs soon appear afterwards. I have had a couple of female canaries that build nest readily and never lay any eggs but I would say that is more of an exception than normal. But it does happen.
I have a pair of panaries and she has laid three eggs set for 10 days I candled the eggs they were not fertile so I remove the nest but now she’s sitting in her food dish and won’t get out what should I do thank you for your help love your videos thanks for all your help with us
Does the amount of light matter when you want them to get breeding? And can I have the breeding cage inside the aviary? Or would that still make the pairs fight?
Hey I have a question I know you said don't you use cotton string but what about cotton itself? Can I use that or what about coconut fibers...I'm from the Caribbean so coconuts are everywhere
Hi mate, i am just setting up my boxes for the first time getting into canary breeding, do you , would you have a link or recommendation on where i can find those nest pans and nesting material holders that you used in this video ? thank you Niko
They are harder to find I believe that company that previously made these are no longer making them. But there are some similar ones that you can find on Amazon that connect to the outside of the breeding cages.
Hallo, they don´t need more heat inside like exotic birds, they just can´t stand blowing cold wind like winds coming from a open Windows and doors Who blow to each other. My canaries have temperature from 20degrees. When they have nest the light must on 14h per day. (Recommended)
Hello thank you for your video I am new at this. I have a male and female that I’ve had in the same cage for about 2 weeks He feeds her at times but she seems not interested. And my male is the one that is putting some things in the nest. Should I separate them ? And put a different female in there?
The boy is setting in the next. Is this normal? The female don't atct interested. I have 2 male singers 1 female together. Is that okay? One male sits beside the female she use to fight him but not now?
Can you please make a similar video for breeding zebra finches? I have 2 pairs, about 8 months old. They lay eggs but the female doesnt sit them. I took out the nests for several weeks and put them back in but it didn’t help.
They came with the white cages that had bought. But you should be able to search hanging canary nest and I’m sure that Amazon would have them for sale.
Try and go over as many details as you can that you have learned. Such as lighting timers food you use other than egg food. Have you ever used one mail for more than one female? Sometimes a male will push an egg out of the nest so I can keep having fun. Sometimes you'll have to foster a baby because of a bad mother and father neglect. People reading this should also chime in the comments to try and help others if possible.
Hi can you please help... my female lays around 3 eggs... then 1 laid a healthy baby in august other eggs didnt make it as im unsure if my male pokes holes in them as it appears so... he does help feed her and the baby it was a lovely loud baby then all of sudden in like less then half a day it died?? Why? Does the male kill?? Its not breeding season but 1 has laid yesterday ❤ do i keep this male out and just help out feeding the baby for the mom? No other youtuber is helping please help. 😊
hello thank you for your video. I saw your video I like it I have two canaries, female and male, and I saw the female feed the male, and the male was singing too but they never make a nest for almost a month please, can you tell me what should I do?
I bought most of mine several years ago from a breeder that was leaving the hobby. I have been trying to find more supplies for canaries online but have not been having much success.
QUESTION: When you take away the eggs so she can lay more & give them all to her at the same time so she can hatch them all together what do you do with the eggs to take care of them? Do they need to be kept warm? Seems like that defeats the purpose?? They survive just fine on their own with no heat?
Eggs when recently laid can remain viable for many days even up to 2 weeks if taken care of properly. With my canary eggs I usually will pull them and keep them on a soft cloth inside a container. I keep the eggs at room temperature and I rotate them once daily. Once the hen has laid the 4th egg then I place all of the real eggs back into the nest.
@@birdnerd I just got an incubator and am setting it up later. After running it for 12 hours and making sure the temp & humidity is right i will try to hatch them! Wish me luck!
It depends on how your canaries are prepared and at what light intervals they are currently at. But as a good rule of thumb when the temps start getting really hot the canaries stop breeding.
Do'nt know where you are,but in Wales we always take eggs away until 3rd is laid. Put the 3 back in nest late afternoon and hen will begin incubating. The reason? Young will hatch out together and compete equally for eggfood, which can be bought or grate a boiled egg and mix with butchers rusk or crushed marie biscuits
why is my female so angry at the male after laying the egg,i noticed he serviced her well multiple time, but he is avoiding her attacks htat appear she is hurting him
Some females can become More aggressive than others during breeding. Once she lays her eggs if the fighting continues you can remove the male and let the female incubate/hatch/raise the chicks alone
i hopped to have the pair together ,enjoy the couple and the singing.but it seems to me i was wrong in my expectations i wil have to keep them in separate cages from now on@@birdnerd
What should I do my canaries grew up almost 2 weeks and half and the Male and hen they made second round the hen now got 2 eggs and tomorrow and the next day perhaps she would give birth to five or six eggs should I divide the hen in separate cage and let the father take care of the young canaries because they don’t know how to feed themselves I’ve tried to separate them and the Male looking for the hen and singing and she also looks for him if I leave them like that the babies goes to the nest laying I don’t want them to brake the eggs I really need help what to do in this case!?
These are miserable conditions for birds. True bird lovers do not keep their pets in small cages. Those who do not have the money for a large aviary should not keep birds. Try harder if you want to be a better person.
Hello. The female canary sits all day and night in the nest and peeps. I have not seen an egg yet. She has mated a week before. Is she trying to give birth?
