Pure genius thanks for sharing. Another tip for treating breeder boxes out there, a vegan product called "Grapefruit Seed Extract" or GSE is very effective in cleaning your glassfront and plastic surfaces to prevent algae adhesion as well as serving as an antifungal! Comes in a bottle, wet your mag cleaner in the tank and drop 5-10 drops of GSE to the wet pad and just go to town cleaning inner surfaces. Works fantastic alongside monthly or bimonthly hydrated bentonite treatments at boosting fish vibrancy and gill health!
Ha .... genius.... I already have that breeder thing you use for them to lay eggs in. I would make one comment. I was not happy with the flow in it. Even if I turned the air up high it wasn't pulling the babies down through the funnel and into the side nursery as it was designed to do. It does perform better if the outlet to the nursery side is under the water but I don't see a solution in your set up for that. Anyway, last time I did some work on my tank I took it out and cleaned it well. Then I took a glue gun and sealed up the slots in the birthing side below the green funnel part so that it could only pull water through from above and through the funnel. I am very happy with the results. Now I can see a good flow going down through the green funnel part from the top and it seems to have improved the flow pulling debris into the nursery side. I just did this like a week ago so I haven't had a female birthing yet to watch how well it works with fry vs. debris. The reason I like this birthing thing so much is that while you have a female waiting to give birth it provides flow vs. stagnant water ... and it pulls debris to the nursery tank making it easy to keep the birthing side clean. I would think that your system would be improved by doing the same. I would think it would improve pulling the eggs down through the mesh, through the funnel, and into the updraft stand. I don't know how big the eggs are .... if they are small they could find their way out of the breeder system through those slots. I mean ... I realize with water flow and gravity only a few would happen to drop through the slots ... but this would prevent even that. and damn you ... now you have me wanting to set up this system but I don't have room for even two 10 gallons. Also ... the only fish I'm interested in breeding and sell for enough money to make it worth the headache is shell dwellers and this would not work for them.
Thanks for the tip! I'm glad it solved your issue. I seem to get quite a few eggs through mine at the moment so I'm not going to mess with it but if I have any problems down the road I'll try your idea! Thanks again!
Thank you, that means a lot to me! I will do my absolute best! Family always comes first with my two small kids but I do want to make a lot more content when time allows! My personal life is extremely busy at the moment but I will do my best! :)
@@sydneysangels I also I'm going to buy some of your amazing cpds when I can save enough money I really want to try and breed them like you. I guess I'm going to have to get my first job to support my hobby 😂
@@DashDrones here's one for you the polish don't have turkey for Christmas they eat trout...side effect is they illegally eating all the trout in my country :(
I havent watched the whole video yet (saving for later) but after watching the intro, I wanted to ask, what are the implications on inbreeding when going from 6 fish to 600? Been wondering about this for tank-bred fish in general too
Good question! Well, those 600 fish have been bred from that original group of adults plus a few offspring and another group purchased later on. Since the majority of the fry never see the breeding tank. I haven't had any problems so far
I’d recommend putting about 1/4th the amount of moss you put in for breeding, makes life a lot easier and automatic!😁love breeding these little guys, there starting to fund my other projects very nicely!
If anyone is trying to safe a little money, I used a regular funnel with mesh as a substitute for the aqua nursery. Then just adapted an airline into the tubing connecting the breeder box. About 25% the cost of the nursery
Very helpful. Thanks. Have been trying to figure out how to breed my danios buy they are in my 210 gal main community tank and I only have a 5 gal hospital tank. This helps. Thanks
Great video!!! I made an egg collecting device out of a funnel, hose, airline, and a breeder box. Same results different approach. I like yours better, the high walls on the main container are a must to catch the most eggs. Keep the fry videos coming.👍
@@sydneysangels Yeah make a rainbow breeding video, that should be good. If your interested in seeing how I did the D.I.Y. egg collecting device it's here. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9vMkIgU-1uU.html
Great Video, really did explain a few things in more detail than what I've been currently doing. My problem seems to be getting the cpd's to lay eggs in the first place. what are you doing to adults? ratio? feeding schedule? lighting schedule? I'm from Australia, so unfortunately buying some more directly from you isn''t an option. Keep up the great work!
Do you have any % egg loss to the ramshorn eating eggs. Newly hatched fry? Or do they just eat non fertilized eggs and leftover food? Also about how long exactly should I wait for my cpd fry to become free swimming after hatching at 70 degrees
Thanks for all the tips here. I am finally getting some fry. I have one issue and I am wondering if you can help. The fry keep escaping out the back of the box. What sponge do you use to block it? I have tried a few methods and they either escape through the sponge or else the flow is restricted too much by a very dense sponge and the box overflows and they escape out the back, I can’t seem to find a happy medium with such small fry.
glad you cleaned that up. i'd complain but i have no idea just how many tanks you have and how long it takes to take care of all of them. If you had a finer mesh net on the bottom of the breeder box, would that help seperate the poop from the eggs?
any tips on getting the eggs to not get caught at the bottom of the catcher some do fall but i find alot of them end up at the bottom and dont get sucked up
This video came at the perfect time. One of my female CPDs is looking like she’s about to burst. I have an empty breeder net in their tank so I’ll probably just move the female and a male in there for a couple of days with some susswassertang and then move them out before any eggs hatch. Great video!
Merhaba. Çok basarılı bir uretim olmuş tebrikler 👏 ilk olarak micro yem mi veriyorsunuz ? Artemia yemeye kaç günlükken başlıyorlar ve su değerlerimiz nedir ? Keyifli hobiler🙏
Thanks! I just feed fry powder until they are old enough to eat baby brine shrimp. This can usually take 1 to 2 weeks. My water parameters are pH of 7, KH of 3, TDS 120 and temperature around 70° but they are not picky with temperature!
I just started keeping CPD’s and I definitely have a female with eggs right now a I have a huge clump of moss in my tank. I was wondering how I can get the eggs and try to hatch them! Thank you for the solution! I’m going to try this setup!
Actually yes I was worried about that. I bred quite a few fish from that original group and then when I expanded my breeding group I ordered some more CPD's from another source to deepen the genetics. So far I haven't noticed anything unusual
That comment made me chuckle!!! I know the feeling, I have a couple fat boys in my planted tank as well. I love them but they are egg eating machines lol
I just bred some CPDs and my oldest batch is 1.5 months eating brine shrimp and plump orange bellies. How old do they start colouring up and look more like Adult CPDs?
I’ve bought the same hatchery & fluval to copy this great setup, the only thing I’m missing is the length of pipe going from the hatchery & fluval hang on box. My question is do you know what thickness the tubing needs to be that connects the two box’s please?
After I move the current batch out of the box (3-4 weeks) I'll physically disconnect the box from the airline tubing and flush it with fresh water over a sink to give it a really good clean. Then I'll set it up for the next round..hope that helps!
I don't see why not! Yes I've only gotten mine to breed once and I only got one fry, but I'm guessing the others were gobbled up. I had to lower my pH to trigger them
I've seen you use mop heads a few times. Silly question. Is there a brand of mops that's better? I imagine mop heads even new could have some dangerous bleach or other chemicals from the factory.
I'm considering doing this but you didn't talk about the air pump. I'm wondering how powerful of a pump I would need to run one collecter and two fry boxes? I got Aquael Pat mini so I will use that as a filter so no need for air with that. Thanks to anyone who can help!
I'm using a linear piston air pump that services about 30 tanks but I don't think your pump would have to be all that strong. It isn't a lot of air that's required and the eggs are so small that just a bit of current should do the trick!
How did you get to fish food near feed with a brush I have been on his sight when do fish food and I never popped up how did you get that food if you can get back with me I appreciate it thank you very much
