Hey Malik, do you thinks it’s possible to you to show us your setup for the Plecotanks? So I mean the filters and Airpumps? Because I think that not everybody have an good filtration or stream maker and needs some inspiration. Greats from Germany
I am still learning right now about these incredible zebras. Where I live currently my water will probably be suitable, but I will be moving back to Kentucky in a couple of months (which is when I could realistically probably get some of these fish) and we will have well water here. I haven't checked or tested the parameters yet. I've been told it's extremely hard with a pH just slightly below 7.0. So I really appreciate you talking about these topics so I can learn! Thanks for another great video! I hope you have a very blessed day my friend🌱🐟🌱💚🙏✌️
On water chemistry of Rio Xingu these articles are important: 1) Spatial patterns of water quality in Xingu River Basin (Amazonia) prior to the Belo Monte dam impoundment - by Rodrigues-Filho, JL., et al. 2) Ionic characterization of the Xingu River water’s in the region of the future UHE Belo Monte (PA) - by Sidagis-Galli, C., et al.
Before getting my Zebs 3 years ago... I did a shit ton of research (some excellent sources and some not backed by science) One of the big questions that came up regularly was Snub Nosed Zebs. Do you think Dr Sosa and Dr Thomas could weigh in on the debate of genes vs environmental factors that may cause this deformity? I’ve seen hard water or ph or genetics being the cause. I did have one snub nose in the group I bought... it has sadly passed away and I froze it so I could determine cause of death, poor bugger is still in the freezer as I’m researching fish necropsy before I tackle this tiny job. Great update!
Could be both. Geneticist have recently released scientific papers were they postulate that anywhere from 1-3% of DNA is altered based on ancestors environmental factors being passed on generically. Blue phantoms and Green phantoms are virtually identical except one is located far north and the other like 500 miles south in the same river. Most phantoms located mid river are color wise very washed out. But then again the "Snub Nose" could just be a genetic anomaly.
Malik great informative video 👍. Can we keep a bare bottom tank for L46 as it keeps the tank clean. Do zebra l46 breed as easily in bare bottom tanks ? Kindly guide. Cheers👍
I keep my breeding colony in a bare bottom 60g frag tank. Only because I don't pull my eggs. That way when the fry swim out of the caves and get big enough to catch/move I can catch them without crushing them with sand. But if your going BB I would suggest leaving most of the algae on back, sides and bottom for better beneficial bacteria growth.
hey Prasad, zebs don't seem to care too much anything except caves and clean warm water ! sand is optional ! bare bottom is easier to clean and also maintain water parameters in general! my fish do dig in the sand and also borrow in to it sometimes so they definitely enjoy it! cheers!
Hi from Thailand Mr Malik, May i ask you about L46 and L236 that is it possible to spawn with RO ph 5.8? (I use RO because Tap water in my town not so good)
hey Rory they are carodna shrimp mostly ti bees and culls .. they should all be dead in the tank, ph is 7.4 and temp is 83F but they seem to breed in all my pleco tanks! zebs eat them lol
