Thanks, brother. I used a dark, Vienna roast. I have been doing my own home roasting, so this was a robusta bean that I used. It came out strong! I will have to work on my grounds to water ratio. I added more hot water until I found the taste I liked. 😋

Great tutorial! You should never put anything made of raw, un-coated aluminum in the dishwasher as the chemicals in automatic dishwasher detergent can “etch” the aluminum. What does the inside of the bottom of your moka pot look like? Hazy with dark spots? If so, it’s etched.
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee 2 года назад
Thanks buddy. It doesn’t look bad on the inside. We use a very natural like soap so I don’t know how harsh it is. I haven’t done it sense it was brought to my attention though. Best moka pot tutorial I have yet seen. “How to make moka pot coffee like a MAN!” Not with pre-heated water, or rinsing with cold water, measuring out precise metric measurements. Just make the dang coffee like a Man! Women, nerds, hippy-dippy hipsters, and blue-haired They/Them type people need all that precision to make their perfect little prissy-sissy cup of coffee. Just make the coffee! Sometimes it may not be quite as good as others, just deal with it and drink it anyway. Handle your business like a man. I’ve been making moka pot coffee for the better part of two decades. This fella here shows you like it is, just make the coffee and enjoy it. His moka coffee was foaming with toxic masculinity. Good job dude. Great tutorial video of the moka pot.

For some reason I also confuse microwave and dishwasher when speaking. And my mom does as well. I knew what happened to your moka pot as soon as it was in focus. I don't know for sure if you've ruined your moka pot by cleaning it in the dishwasher. That residue on the surface may actually be poisonous. If I were you I'd look it up.

The trick to a mokka pot is don't use it. They burn coffee. All percolator designs have to get near or at boiling to pass water through the coffee. Coffee burns at boiling temps. You want 198 to 205. And there are fine aguments for higher or lower temps but none for boiling. You will definitely burn your coffee.
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee 2 года назад
Truly appreciate your unbiased opinion and thanks so much for watching. Some people will enjoy different flavors than others. The Moka pot is definitely not for everyone.
@Esrom_music
@Esrom_music 2 года назад
@@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee burning isn't really a matter of opinion but you are certainly right that some people like their coffee burnt. Some like to burn it at home. Some like to purchase it pre burnt from the roaster. Some probably like to burn their burnt coffee and serve it with burnt toast and that is a matter of opinion.
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee 2 года назад
That’s my point. If some people like it, then why say don’t use it. Just because your definition of burnt is different, doesn’t mean people shouldn’t use it. I brewed a super light fermented coffee this morning with the Moka pot and it surely did not taste burnt. But, like I said, opinions very on what is considered burnt. @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee

You can add extra water to dilute it down. It’s kind of a strong concentrate at 1/10.

Bialetti said they designed the Moka to be a measuring cup, so you'll always get the perfect ratio of coffee to water if you fill the reservoir with cold or room temperature water to touch the bottom of the valve, and loosely fill the basket with medium-fine ground espresso and level it off with the rim, but don't press it down.

I like your attitude towards coffee making cuz that’s ultimately what we are all here for and why we care about coffee in the first place.. on a side note: I think you technically shouldn’t put the aluminium ones (like yours) in the dish washer as they oxidise.. however, if the flavour doesn’t suck who am I to tell you what to do ;)

I just bought a 12 cup so I can make basically 2 cups I can take to work. This thing never has a steady stream, it is constantly "coughing" so I have to keep the lid on so it doesn't make a mess. Any tips?
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee Год назад
Your heat is to hot. Turn the heat down little by little and eventually you will find a sweet spot where it trickles at a good flow. Once it gets low on water it will start to cough and I pour it at that point. The little bit of coffee left will just start to turn your cup bitter. Hope that helps buddy!

Fun video. but some pointers if its ok. Dont press th coffe down when it in the funell, just stroke over it with a knife. Coffe in the mokka pot will brew better if not pressed. About cleaning..when pot´s not warm anymore, wash it in your sink without detergent, only hot water is needed and dry with som paper or a kitchen towel. an extra tip is to buy a new rubber-ring from silicone, that makes the rubber smell go away. They are cheap. And dont wash in mashine... Again, thanks for video, i enjoyed it! Happy Easter....

I use regular coffee filters, cutting them to fit the basket size then wet the filter snd put on the bottom of the receiving chamber. I also boil the water in the bottom chamber, then turn the heat all the way down so i can drop the basket in, the go back to medium heat after tightening the top. Turn the heat to low once the coffee first starts filling the chamber. I also do not find it necessary to cool the lower chamber to stop the brewing. As long as you brew it slowly there wont be a strong gurgle at the end.

Rob you’re using a “4-6 cup” moka pot. If one uses the smaller “3 cup” pot, grind about 15 to 17grams of coffee. I put the sizes in quotes, cause the “cups” the Italians are talking about, are those tiny espresso demi-tasse.2oz cups.

NO DISHWASHER !! Will destroy shiny finish ! Italian friends universally say do NOT put your ( aluminium ) moka pot in a dishwasher. Otherwise...pretty good informative vid. Hey dude....that's a lot of coffee for 1 person. I kinda think this is known as a 4 cup pot. Certainly has a kick ! I tried reducing to a smaller 2 cup pot but that doesn't always give sufficient kick.
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee 3 года назад
Thanks for the info! I normally just wash it out in the sink by hand but sometimes if I am lazy I will throw it in the dishwasher. I may stood king that if it is not recommended but it hasn’t hurt mine so far. I have the 6 cup because the bottom container holds exactly 300ml of water. I think 250ml is the 4 cup. And honestly we are pretty backwards over here when it comes to measuring so that may be confusing too. Thanks so much for watching my friend!
@johnfranklin3627

I don't know how or if possible....to show you a pic of a similar moka pot I did put in the dishwasher. As I said it completely destroys the shiny finish. Received wisdom...is that the right term ? says just rinse in hot water. I have many Italian friends. Coffee aficionados can talk hours on the moka pot story....and also about aluminium, the Italian favourite...and stainless steel...often preferred by non Italians who believe aluminium contributes to Alzheimer's.
