Double-coated dogs have two layers of coat - the top coat and the undercoat. It's essentially like a filtration system and like any filter, it can get dirty so it must be brushed regurarly to ensure it remains clean and healthy. Not brushing a double-coated dog will result in matts forming. A matted undercoat causes a buildup of moisture and dander which can result in hotspots and/or fungal infections as well as a trip to the vet. So make sure you are keeping on top of your brushing at home to ensure that your dog's coat remains healthy.

Golden Retriever, German Shepherd (Alsation), Pomeranian, Husky, Great Pyrenees (Pyrenean Mountain Dog), Chow Chow, Newfoundlands, Corgi, Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Shiba Inu, Bernese Mountain Dog, Rough Collie, Samoyed, Japanese Spitz and many more.
