LET'S GET BUILDING!
So we've all thought of it and a lot of us have gone through with it. There are tons of tutorials online about building printers but we're going to go into a lot of detail on how to do this in this series of videos. First up is frames and motion systems, the next in the series will be about extruders, hotends and heated beds, and then the last will be about mainboards and firmware.
We're going to make 2 printers, both corexy, one tiny and one big and by the end of the series the goal is to educate those of on how to build your own printer but we will also upload the directions, files, stls on how to build these printers if you want to do that.
If you have noticed that we've left something out in discussing frames and motion systems then let us know in the comments below and these will be addressed in the next video in the series. See you guys then!

I'm new to 3D printing (6 months) and much to my wife's dismay, I'm hooked. I started with an Ender 3 V2 Neo; I say started because although I only have one printer, it's not really a Neo anymore, which led to me stumbling onto this video. I want an X1 Carbon but if I can build a corexy for even half the cost, I'll be satisfied... for now. Building a printer will be a breeze if the rest of the series is like this one. Nicely done! Liked and followed.

You can also purchase a precision ground drill rod (D2 tool steel) that have extremely tight tolerances and come annealed for machining the flats for mounting

Great and easy to understand information, glad you are making a 3 part series! Some things that were missed for the belts: steel reinforced belts are not recommended for motion systems that have belt paths with 180 degree turns, so not suitable for most 3d printer motion systems. Rubber belts without reinforcement are the cheapest, but will wear out faster and streach/deform easily if the 3d printer is tightly enclosed. So fiber (glass/nylon/kevlar) reinforced belts are the best option for 3d printers. CoreXY belt paths can become very long if you decide to make a large XY build area printer, in which case it is recommended to get 9 or 12mm thick or "tall" belts instead of the 6mm ones that most desktop FDM printers use.

This is great info, thanks man! We'll definitely mention it in the next video :)

the one with the "square hole" still has a cylindrical part in the middle that you can still tap

2:18 the cr 10 max too, it's definitely harder to find stuff for it than it is for all the others.

Any chance to get the printables for the stepper motor bracket and corner pieces youve printed for this build?

Excellent video. I took a slightly different approach. Being in New Zealand, you can basically *double* any US prices. My Ender 3 started out stock - Now it has linear rails on all 3 Axis, SKR Mini 3.0 v3, Slice Engineering Heatbreak, Coated Nozzle and PEI build surface - among others, including my own compiled Marlin 2.1.2-bugfix. I need another printer and I did a *lot* of research. Parts down here 'down under' can be quite expensive. So - I bought a new cheap Frame Cartesian printer for around $NZ520 (incl Freight). For about another $NZ300.00 I can upgrade this to a CoreXY (another channel has an upgrade to CoreXY for an Ender 5 - which the new printer is a clone of). I could not buy the base parts to build my new printer for less than a cheap clone printer. In fact, it works out *way* cheaper. And forget a 'high end' CoreXY - prices start here in NZ at around $NZ2550.00. Both my printers will run Klipper shortly. Nothing really - just wanted to share.

Both types of profiles shown here have center holes ment to tap them. "Square" larger hole on silver one is ment for larger screw and shape designed for easy taping and solutions like those not round holes are widely used in industry.

I have a CR-10 that I haven't used in 3 years. What could I do to her today in 2022 to make her better?

Why are there no Epson, Canon, Brother etc etc 3D printers. With decades of engineering experience making paper printers all they need to do is add up and down.

@3DJake_Official Год назад
Actually I believe Epson and Canon both offer 3d printers but they're for the industrial sector so these would cost hundreds of thousands of euro. HP are more well known for their 3d printers though, having developed a lot of the technology behind Multi-Jet Fusion.

I thought this video was to show how to build a 3d printer, but halfway through the video I was so bored hearing about the different printers and parts I almost fell asleep. All I need is a parts list, and the method used to build it.

No sorry, it is a video on how to "build a printer from scratch", not from someone else's design but guide on where to begin and what kind of printer is suitable for you.

If you don't have the attention span to watch 10 minutes into a video, trust me you don't have the attention span to design and build your own 3d printer

@@the1pigeonhey I’m in the same boat. I thought it was a construction video, not a model \ parts list.

@@devintittle3131 it's not a model/parts list either, it's an explanation of the basics of what goes into designing and building your own 3d printer from scratch, as the title says

@@the1pigeon I see your point, but when it said “how to build” I expect to be told a least some of the construction steps. But considering listened to a huge list of model types, it kind of is. I’m not complaining, the title is just a bit deceptive imo.
