Great video. Purchased everything from Menards today. Cost is higher these days. Closer to $200 for everything but the quality and strength will far exceed the pre built ones out there. Took 25 minutes to make all the cuts on the miter saw. Had it dry assembled 10 minutes later. My daughter loves it. Thanks for making the video. Oh ya I did 10” pieces instead of the 8” ones and it’s closer to 12 feet long.

Thumbs up from me. I built the entire thing in under 2 hours with my Dad. My local Home Depot had all of the pvc and connectors in stock and the goal looks absolutely amazing. Still waiting on the net to be shipped to me, but I'm sure the goal will be great. Thanks for the design!

I think I you meant you went back 10 feet at minute 1:32 after describing the coupling. Even still, nice work. Maybe include material list for people who would like to replicate? Thanks for posting!

Hey, thanks again Kevin! I finished the net using almost exactly the specs you used. Only difference was instead of the 8" pieces for the cross bar and back support bar, I went with 10". It got me to 12' almost exactly. Regardless, it's a real nice-looking design and my nephews absolutely LOVE it. All their friends thought they had to have bought it at some soccer store! I can attest it's just a great net for anyone thinking of building their own and saving some money by doing it. Using the 3" piping for the crossbar and posts make it extremely solid as the net doesn't budge on any shot that hits the bar or posts. I found an orange net online that I liked--it really looks good against the white frame. I should mention I used white duct tape on the joints (triple-wrapped) as I had read elsewhere it can be a good alternative to using glue. It also makes replacing any piece that may crack a little easier, but that's just my preference. Anyway, I really did appreciate your posting the video, Kev. Worked great(!) and my nephews think their uncle is pretty cool now. Lol.

Hey bad guy, when I was rough fitting it, it seemed that the angle connecting the two joints were off a bit. So I added another 22.5 degree to bring it in line with the y. You may be able to make it work by bringing the pipe coming back from crossbar a couple inched longer. But yeah, the 1.5" I was talking about is the 2" pipe to make the connection from 22.5 to the y. Thanks, for compliment.

Hey Adam, yes that connection is made by a pipe is slid in there at the corner where the T meets the 90. 8'x24' goal might be tough. I'd recommend going to a plumbing supply store so you can get one whole piece as the crossbar. That would be a lot of stress. Or I'd also think about adding a third identical support in the middle. Same dimensions as sides to prevent sagging. As far as length, I'm not sure. I just put a level on the post going back from crossbar and slid in the back post on the T going up and marked where I wanted to cut. As long as your level you will be OK! Good luck guys. Any ?'s, just ask

Hi Kevin. Really like the design. I'm building it now. One question...in the back corner, where the 90 degree elbow meets the T connector, do you have a 1.5" in piece there as a joint? Or, does that just connect?

My son and I built a 8 ft by 16 ft goal using this design. I t has worked pretty well until getting a group of 16/17 yr old soccer players pounding away on it. I'm especially having difficulty with the side supports that use the (2) 22.5 couplers. I strong shot into these post has resulted in piece flying. I need ideas to make this sturdy?, I'm thinking of redesign into a rectangular goal. This design would only use 90 degree couplers. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hey Todd, sorry to hear that. Are you using PVC primer and glue? They should never pop out if your cleaning the ends, primer, then glue. I just used glue and not primer and it still works.

Nice! Im doing. My best to find videos of people who had builted their own soccer goal. And none of them was right. But now I found your video and soccer goal is perfect! Can you leave a comment and tell the supplies and pvc? It's for me to build one.

Hey, Justin Andrews left a nice nice in the comments section. But instead of 1 10' sections of 3" pipe, you would need 3 10' sections of 3" pipe. Thanks for shout out! Lol

@DirtyPooh1
@DirtyPooh1 9 лет назад
Thanks Joshua. Unfortunately I have nothing written down. I only showed the one side because you just do the same to the other side. Make sure to use a miter box to make sure cuts are square and dry fit before glueing. Hardest part was cutting then just pop pieces together

kevin smith thanks for the video! I am not clear on how the crossbar is put together. Is the crossbar comprised of three sections or many more? The video makes it seem as though you went in segments of 10 inches each for the crossbar. I am assuming, for now that you meant 10 feet. Here is what I camp up with by taking some notes: 3" PVC ====== 2x 3" T w/ 2" connection 2x 90° fitting w/2" inlet 1x 10' PVC 2x couplings 2x 8" PVC 2" PVC ====== 2x 48" PVC 2x T connections 2x 16" PVC 4x 22½° fitting 2x 58" PVC 4x 1½" PVC 2x Y connection 2x caps 2x 24" PVC 2x 8" PVC 2x couplings 1x 10' PVC hope others may chip in and correct my mistakes and add to the knowledge base. thanks again!
@DirtyPooh1
@DirtyPooh1 9 лет назад
Justin Andrews hey, yeah the crossbar is one 10' section with couplings then 8" pieces on each side going into the 3" 90degree. Thanks for listing the parts. It look right on!
@DirtyPooh1
@DirtyPooh1 9 лет назад
***** your right Dave. It's 3 x 10' sections of 3" pipe. One 10' for crossbar and one 10' pipe for each upright. Cut down to 6'.

Thanks for posting this Kevin. I followed your design and it worked great. I dry fit the pieces and everythingry looks good. I was curious if you used primer and Pvc cement or if you just used cement. I'm nervous about using primer and making a mistake and being stuck with it..but I wasn't sure if cement alone would be Strong enough to withstand hard kicks as the kids get older.
@DirtyPooh1
@DirtyPooh1 3 года назад
Mark, when you dry fit the pieces and you have it where it looks good. Make a mark on each connection so you know where to put the pieces after you primer and glue. Thanks! And good luck!

Nice video and goal! I've been wanting to make a goal for my nephews for a while. I've seen a couple of different designs, but I really like yours the best. It looks very sturdy with the 3" crossbar and posts. My only question was about the 2nd 22.5' angled-coupling you talk about--near the top of the goal(at about the 0:59 mark) you mention something about a 1.5" piece. Do you mean a 2" PVC pipe that is only 1.5" long (?) and that very small piece is what attaches the 22.5' angle to the Y-coupling? That doesn't seem correct to me, so I think I may be misunderstanding you. Is it something different than that? As I am a little confused about that connection, I would appreciate it if you could clarify that part for me. Thanks very much!

Hi Kevin - great design but pvc is almost non-existent in my neck of the woods. All major reno stores only carry black ABS pipe and fittings. Do you think this material would be just as good if it were painted white afterwards to protect it from UV?
@DirtyPooh1
@DirtyPooh1 9 лет назад
Hey Lee, abs is fine as long as its schedule 40. I'd even keep it black. Black posts with a gold net would be pretty cool looking. I believe abs use different glue tho, but you don't have to primer it.
@leeroyal7053
@leeroyal7053 9 лет назад
kevin smith I'm going to give it a go with ABS . You're right, the ABS glue is yellow and cures within seconds of attaching the fitting - it will be awkward joining the 12 foot 3" pipe to the 3"x3"x2" 90 degree tees with only a few seconds to get it right the first time. Thanks for posting your video and for the prompt reply! I'll let you know how it goes.
@DirtyPooh1

I'd dry fit the whole thing together first, make minor adjustments, then mark the connections with a marker. That way you can connect them quicker and know where you have to be to get it right.

Marcos, home depot or Lowes has plumbing section, if you want to make your crossbar just one piece then I would suggest a plumbing supply store. They would have a better selection.

I would break that net in a couple shots , should use steal and weld because that pipe I even broke when I was in under 10 they made the nets out of those pipes and I cracked about like 5 of then and one was in a tournament and we had to wait on a net to arrive to finish the game , and that netting I could kick a ball threw , need better netting , good for kids under 8 with a rubber ball not no real balls though .

donaldhewitt100 My cousin is 6 years old. He has a pvc goal in his backyard and he has a decent nike strike ball. I took a shot into the upper 90 and made a hole in the net. Definitely better to spend more money on a durable goal.

there is a 10 ft crossbar, a coupling attached on each end. Then 8 inch pipe on each end of the 10 ft piece.
