Good stuff. You're videos are getting more of a slick "Hollywood" look. :-) With the two front walls out of phase, are they the main factor in 'tuning' the center frequency of the absorber unit? Are the two front walls used in determining the bandwidth of the absorption?

Acoustic foam isn't the most efficient LF absorber, but its effectiveness does increase somewhat with thickness. I've seen the rates/levels on your 3" StudioPro foam, but have you ever done any rates/levels testing on 6" or 9" or 12" of your foam, including at frequencies at or below 125Hz, like 40, 60, 83, 100?
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 9 месяцев назад
We do not offer a 3" foam technology. Our foam is manufactured in 2" thickness. You can lower the resonant frequency by adding layers. However, the rate of absorption becomes an issue with thickness of foam. You cross performance thresholds with other technologies. For example, if you take a 8" deep foam panel, you will be better off from a rate of absorption standpoint to use a perforated absorber at 6". You save 2" in treatment space for a higher rate of absorption.

Noise frequencies and amplitudes must be measured before any barrier technology is used. Jet noise is the worse type of noise to treat since it full range noise with high amplitudes (strength).

@@AcousticFields - I so I am picking up a decibel reader. An Amazon product relatively cheap. After I get readings of sound, do I apply layers of material accordingly? I read that different materials block different frequencies. Just not sure of the healthy materials to use. Weight is also a consideration on the load bearing walls. If to heavy i will need to add supports to the flooring joists.

I do understand that simplest design of diaphragmatic absorber uses pressure (not velocity) to move front thinner part in much more rigid box hence absorbing energy around resonant frequency. But your second membrane and more importantly carbon inside the unit are velocity based turning velocity of air molecules into heat? If so, the inner plate vibrates in such a way that molecules moves inside carbon horizontally. What I am trying to say is that it seems that your unit is both: - pressure system in terms of typical pure diaphragmatic absorption - velocity of molecules inside carbon area I have purchased DIY. Thank you.
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 5 лет назад
B, You have an external cabinet that is the diaphragmatic absorber and corresponds to the rules of that design function. The internal perforated absorber corresponds to the design parameters of that design. The carbon accelerates the rate of absorption for both functions.

In this video I noticed there was 2" X 12" studs used as your side walls. Is it okay to build a cabinet on casters using 2" X 12" studs as my side walls, top & bottom walls, or would that make a difference as apposed to using MDF?
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields Год назад
You need certain densities with the materials you use to construct a diaphragmatic absorber. It is the density of the cabinet, the depth, and the internal cabinet fill that all works together.

Over the counter carbons used for air and water filtration will not work for sound absorption. Carbon has to undergo a special manufacturing process to insure porosity size/count and granule density. We ship our carbon from LA and London.

did you consider mounting speakers in the celling transmitting a frequency that cancels out the sub responce?
@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 6 лет назад
M, Noise cancellation technology is another effort to use signal processing to manage source response. Any signal processing can be heard and colors the response curve even further. Treat your room using the available space you have with the proper technology then use small amounts of EQ to tame the remaining peaks and troughs in your room response curve.

@AcousticFields
@AcousticFields 3 года назад
Over the counter carbons used for air and water filtration lack the porosity count and density along with their ability to absorb moisture. We manufacture our raw materials to produce the proper pore count, diameter, density, and we treat our carbon not to retain moisture. You can prove yourself wrong by building your room and installing an over the counter carbon. We will even assist you with the process so you can report your findings. After the process fails, we will require you to do a video on the results so others can see your failure.

Low frequency energy must be managed. It can not be eliminated only mitigated. This principle also applies to noise transmission. There is no such thing as sound proofing. With noise nothing is proofed just mitigated or managed.
