Nice video Charles, Hard work and time pays off. I like how you explain the difference enclosure in your video. I'm looking forward to see what's coming in the future. Thanks for the video, keep them on the ground makes them better with time.
What type of chicken wire did you use? My local farm store has 6’ tall 150’ long for $100 but it has 2 inch spacing. Pretty sure it’s 20 gauge also but didn’t ask. Will adult rabbits get out of 2” spacing?
What’s your thoughts on using Tennessee redbacks? At what age of dog do you think they would start to catch the Tennessee redback, “upper medium speed dogs, weir creek, fish creek breed”. With Tennessee redbacks you could control population by adding 1 male per acre at a time insuring your population control. What are your numbers per acre on a finished hound vs a starting pen for 3 month old?
That will be subjective. I don’t use tame rabbits anymore but I have in the past. I just prefer the way a wild rabbit runs.As for the numbers it is also subjective, I have maybe three rabbits in my 10 acres I think they become better hunters that way.
In the beginning yes but not anymore after getting the trees out and I think the 5ft helps as well. Adding a fence in the animals natural habitat was something they had to get used to so yes they would run into it and try to get back in that area I’m sure were some of them were born.
Awesome pen. Thank you for the in-depth info on it. I’m really considering building one as I work 12’s. Just for puppies. What was the total cost? Easy to find rabbits worries me. Seems like every so often you may have to shoot some inside to keep population down. I suppose an older trusted hound set on a timer over a couple days at yearly intervals to check rabbit population would work? Say he finds them every 5 minutes time to shoot a few. Doing a check up like that would be less work than actually running pups 24/7 however. Again thanks for the information. I enjoy your channel.
I've never trained a rabbit dog but I'm wanting to start. I have a 3 yr old beagle. Would it be better to try and train her or start fresh with a new set of pups? Not sure if it would be a waste of time trying to teach her. Also any info for a new guy would be appreciated.
