Hi All! in this episode I'll finish the bookcase by trimming out the flat panels, making a solid Quarter Sawn White Oak top, and installing White Oak bead molding at the base of the bookcase to finish it off.

There’s a word that resumes Jon’s concept of woodworking, ant the word is INTELLIGENCE. Lot of skills, lot of sober aesthetics blended together in very well crafted products. And the best is the workshop: an “human” workshop, not a NASA laboratory. Killer woodworker. Killer.

Jon; beautiful project and a fascinating tip about the grain on the White Oak. If there's one great tip you have "hammered home"(no pun intended)to us, it's the need to use a wet cloth immediately to clean up the wet clue. Now we know why you didn't this time. DD

I am surprised that Jon didn't notice how sloppy the paint job was. You can see the inside of the legs DIRTY with white paint. That is substandard by any means.

Very nice. A note to beginners - you may need to “kerf” trim lumber two or three times in order to achieve that perfect fit. Be patient. It easier to chop a hair off than fill the gap of cutting to much.

White paint and whilte oak. A great combination. Nicely done. (P.S. Used my belt sander once in eight years, finally got rid of it. Hand planes just got quicker for me. And also, Rotex for stripping. Always interesting to see someone using one.).

I think I have watched this video half a dozen times haha. Love all the trim! That being said could you do a video on trim alone? I am new to furniture making and I'm always overwhelmed with the trim process as I don't know much about it. Would be awesome if you went over the different styles of trim, different ways to stack trim, which trim compliments one another, what's your "go to" trim and reasoning behind trim selection etc.. Also, how to make your own trim. Many thanks in advance! - Brian

It's hard to tell from the video, but did you only sand/scape off some of the paint on the bottom bead molding? It looked like you were maybe going for the shabby chic look but that seems like a different look than the elegance of the project. Again, hard to tell so I thought I'd ask! :-) either way, beautiful project Jon!

Hey Jon, glad I was able to find you on RU-vid, I have thoroughly enjoyed all of your videos. I have a problem with tacky finishes on my painted projects that I spray, and that I hand brush. I read that this is due to not allowing the first coat to dry properly, but I have had this problem with ample dry time as well. Any video that goes into detail about painting and dry times and such would be beneficial to many I think. Thanks for the great videos!

Jon, always love your work, you are true professional. The bookcase came out nice, I like the contrast of natural stain and paint. Over the last couple years, your videos have been a tremendous help to me. I look forward to a Q&A video about painting techniques used. What are good sprayer to buy, how to thin the primer and paint, etc. Also, a couple of shots showed the back left leg still had some paint on it, is that intentional? One more thing, a lot of people probably don't remember the old instagram logo you a put up on your vids, just thought I mention it. I do follow your feed there as well.

In respect to spraying a paint finish on a cabinet that will have different colors for the face frame and case, is better to fully assembly and tape off one area or the other, which area and why, or paint separately and then assemble?

Maestro! A question about finishing and spray finishing MDF when matched next to 'normal timber'. What approach do you take with the MDF to 'seal' it so that the final finish between the MDF and other surfaces look the same. Are you using a high build prep undercoat or just using multiple undercoats. Water or oil based prep for the MDF? Did I see you applying the clear coat to the entire cabinet? cheers BB

As always Jon, beautiful work. You definitely have a design style I enjoy. A simple question this time. You mentioned numerous times in these two videos, that you made the bottom bead molding from white oak to "tie the whole thing together". I assumed that meant it was going to have a natural finish like the top and legs, but you chose to paint it. If you where going to paint it, why didn't you make it out of poplar or mdf like the other molding? Did I miss something?
