I am moving to a new city and looking at a place to booth rent. I'm really nervous. I'm marketing on IG and targeting my new city. Everyday I post I get more and more followers....but not enough appointments. One month I'm crazy busy, the next month I'm not. I refuse to quit, I just got to keep busy learning new skills. Thank you for you video.

When you say studio, do you mean like a Sola salon? I don’t actually know what is meant by “studio”? Sorry! I’m not a hairstylist but interested in a possible career change. I’ve always been interested in being a stylist. I chose nursing because I wanted to do travel nursing and didn’t think I could move if I was a hair stylist without losing my clientele. So now that I’m longer for a creative career, I searched for how I could incorporate seeing the country but also make good money doing hair. I’m glad I found your channel!❤️

Hi Lauren! I just moved to TX and I just received my hair license (I’m getting it transferred). I have absolutely no clientele, and no one knows me (yet). I receive attention and compliments about my hair, which I do myself from working in luxury retail. In schools I’ve been told to work at a commission based salon to start, but I haven’t found a salon and I don’t want to waste time. I really want to work for myself, by myself. I have a small place to work from home for the next 9 months. Help???

What marketing books or sites do you recommend? Recently just moved from St. Louis Missouri too Turlock California, but I’m still waiting for my license to transfer. I’m preparing myself for booth rental coming from a commission salon! It’s very overwhelming!
@LaurenFrancesHair
@LaurenFrancesHair 4 года назад
Hey! Thanks so much for watching and best of luck on your move! I love California! You are amazing for jumping right into booth rental! I would start with this book! It is a really good well rounded book about business and marketing written by the creator of Shark Tank. You will walk away inspired and a lot smarter 😉 amzn.to/2pr0kOK Also here are a couple other independent stylist marketing videos you will find helpful! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZUJFUr-4vDc.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TMjqVOBTEtI.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3FladbV4zs4.html -Lauren

This is me!! Moved to AZ from CA of 11 years of clientele. Now I’m here working a retail job to get by, and wanting to start hair again but i need a source of income. Would you suggest I go to a commission based salon first?
@LaurenFrancesHair
@LaurenFrancesHair 4 года назад
If you already have a retail job and are able to save money, I would stay there until you save enough to start your own studio. You could even do both! That is probably what I would do in order to give myself time to build while I worked and saved money! I wouldn't really use a commission job to get clients because then you have to go through the growing pains of losing a lot of them all over again. However, if you want to have a job where you are actually doing hair, then commission is the way to go. Hope that helps!
@LaurenFrancesHair

I usually like to work with what I already have working for me and build up my business on the side. Instead of investing in a new salon and leaving. You know what I mean?
@MUAChristopherTorres
@MUAChristopherTorres 4 года назад
Lauren Frances Hair that does make sense. I guess I’m just ready to get out of retail so badly and continue my passion, but it makes sense to continue to peruse both for now.

I'm still in my town but moved to a new location. I have a suite now in an office building with no window access. Majority of my clients didn't follow me even though I'm only 3 miles away. What do you suggest to build a new clientele? And by the way I have done and still do a lot of social media posting. My goal is to be booked out every day.
@LaurenFrancesHair
@LaurenFrancesHair 3 года назад
When you go on your own to a location that is not walk in friendly. The reason people come is for YOU! Which is scary but also a good thing. The clientele you build here will be more loyal because of it. What you need to do is think about who your ideal customers are. What do they do for work? What do they like to spend their free time doing? What brands do they love? What are they into? How do they like to look? What image do they want to project? When you answer these questions, you want to start marketing yourself and your social media posts in a way that speaks to your ideal customer. For example, if your ideal customer loves sports, show a video clip of you cutting someone’s hair with a game on and them enjoying a beer. (You aren’t selling beer unless you have a beer and wine license, but there is no reason why you can give one🤷🏼‍♀️) hope that helps!
