Guys run “trued” shafts in ultra 4 all the time with speeds around 100mph. Their tires are beadlocks that are not balanced. Some with solid mounted driveshafts. The point is, if your tires are bouncing or your not running on a smooth surface , there is no reason to balance the shaft. True it up and let er eat!
Measure twice cut once. Lol Dodge needs to beef up the driveshafts on their Hell Cats to something stocky like these. There’s videos of them dumping driveshafts everywhere. They really did their homework. 🤦🏼♂️ Thanks for sharing guys. 🇺🇸
Vibrates at 70mph? Does it smooth out at 80? Haha! I built a schedule 80 1410 driveshaft and it was a complete miracle. No vibration at all and I beat on it for years! Thanks for the video.
Lol yeah the one you built in this video is way nicer than any driveshaft I’ve ever seen come out of an actual driveshaft shop. I’m sure it would balance out good.
awesome vid, learned a few things, im gonna have to extend my dentside bronco driveshaft pretty damn soon and I wouldve fucked up the welds for sure without this vid.
those are some amazing tig welds, did have a question which you may have covered in an earlier video but im a new subscriber, when placing your trailing arms/transfer case, do you have the flange/yoke as close to center of the hing point or does it matter to much as long as it is not excessive?
I'm willing to bet if I put one of those on my balance machine it would need some weight, especially with the rpm you're running them at I'm surprised you're not having at least some vibration issues. props on the Spicer parts, I sell tons of the stuff
with custom built suspension the right way there isn't much rotation of the pinion of the axle so they don't get put in much of a bind. that being said these parts can take a lot of angle
I can't find any videos about flex disc overriding By that I mean get longer bolts turn the shzft and defeat the flex coupler Do it's bolted direct and no longer stretches and wears ou I filled in the shzft hanger mount with urethane So it's sold I filled in the transmission Mount and motor mounts on w115 Diesel mercedes. It only has 68HP so who needs alot if flex.my research shows they make al, the mounts flex so it all rips apart in a crash. But it's 48 years old. Now. Thesedays it is a tank all the big cars are gone..all American cars had no flex couplings and drove just fine. I'm going to try the 3 .pager bolts and do without the flex disc. Have you ever done that turn the shaft and bolt the 3 holes only even keeping the old disc it's just direct now. With 3 empty holes changing the euro car to gm style .
Awesome stuff! I need to do a 2 piece drive shaft on the front of my jeep (np205/4l80e) do you have any recommendations on carrier bearings or want to do a video on them?
About balancing: You have a lathe. Spin it up, stick a soap stone near it, work it in until it rubs and makes a mark, put weights opposite the mark? Drill out mass from the center of the mark if on a meaty bit? No? I guess you would know better than I. I know this involves liability and risk in claiming "balanced". Would it help? Is there a better way? How does one balance a drive shaft? A special stress-proof or sch 80 seamless pipe that's internally machined and spec'ed? 4130? Now you've only managed to pique my curiosity on this dammit.
