That's why I love living in England! I can also visit my auntie in Cambridge all the time, or travel via the Eurostar to Paris to visit my uncles! They have the most darling apartment, and one of my uncles has art exhibits on all of the time 💕💕
I really liked what you said in the last part, on avoiding impulse buying etc :) There are new aesthetics, new trends emerging all the time and it's tempting to completely change your wardrobe to suit that new "identity", new aesthetic. Oh my god, you are a blessing! I’ve been trying to figure out a way how to look like the art-dark academia aesthetic, but my wardrobe has got only a few pieces which match with that aesthetic.
My dad was so lucky when he was younger! His school was 'Kimbolton Castle' in Cambridge, and he boarded there until he went to Cambridge uni. It was awfully nice when I visited it. He must have studied there for about a decade, it has court yards and old paintings 💕💕
I live in Miami, Florida it’s almost impossible to dress dark academia 😭😭 I recently got a haul of some light academia clothing that include skirts and thicker shirts so I can wear them still in warm weather, thank god.

I lean more writer and romantic mixed with a touch of darkest and chaos academia. I am just working on starting my wardrobe. I am also a closeted trans male leaning so I really like that this aesthetic is easy to do in a masculine way without making my parents suspicious. Thanks for this guide! I am Brazilian, so it is very difficult to follow a dark academia aesthetic (here in Brazil it is almost forty degrees, it is very hot and generally the clothes of this style are sweaters or pants, which do not match the climate because they are too hot) the calmness with which you speak, i am not fluent in english but i managed to understand a lot of the video (despite having subtitles in portuguese)
Ive been having a crisis because ive been wanting to change up my wardrobe and for my birthday i thought i would get alot of classic books and change up my wardrobe. Dark academia is so comforting compared to all the other aesthetics out there and i feel if im not super passionate about it ill lose that comfort.
i like to consider my aesthetic as chaos. i just love everything, i love having lots of bright colors and crazy shoes (god i love shoes) and doing like an indie kid style with baggy jeans, big tshirts and sweatshirts, and lots of jewelry. then i also love mixing that up and adding a grungy-ness to it with dark plaid button up shirts and still lots of jewelry and doc martens and just all kinds of dark colors. and then i just love the vibe of dark academia so much and all the dark colors and light colors and how the whole aesthetic is about like classic literature and universities and reading and learning and just knowledge. it just inspires me to learn. but then it completely flips because i love cottagecore with my entire being, and flowy dresses and skirts and blush and baking and reading jane austen. i just have a love and appreciation for each and every one of these and i want to embody them all but i can't and its so hard to choose so i just don't. chaos :))
if you live in Canada, Simon's has a surprisingly large selection of things that fit a couple of the academia subsets' styles :) and a lot of their cotton clothes are organic and most of their polyester options are made from recycled polyester!

I decided a little while ago to change the content of my wardrobe and the clothes I have been wearing, which have been jeans and t-shirts. It is time to start wearing something more mature and whilst I was creating a mood board to see what my style would be, I discovered dark academia. The colour pallet and the types of clothes I am interested in happen virtually the same. Seem I had the right intuition, first the basic stuff and build from there.
Tip: Get this free app called Shoplook. Make a collection full of clothing from your wardrobe, and everytime you want a new piece try and make at least 5 outfits you like with it. I promise you, it's very helpful (and also easier than trying to remember what you have in your wardrobe and doing everything mentally). Currently doing it with a coat I want to get. Plus it's free practice if you find it difficult to put outfits together on short notice.
I didn't know there were even more subsets of Dark Academia. I'm working on my Light Academia wardrobe. I was already fond of cream, white and tan, so it's been going pretty easy. Working on shoes. But in the meantime, it's 100 degrees outside, we're in a pandemic, I'm at home and watching this while in my pajamas at 1pm in the afternoon.

for my wardrobe to add some personality and colour i make most of the sweaters i wear and i get both a relaxing activity and a nice, comfy sweater out of it :)
PSA: madden girl while booties make DA outfits formal and classy & make you taller. i don’t care for loafers, oxfords or mary janes, so if you’re a boot kinda person: combat boots/while booties for the WIN. also black and tan and fawn heels look incredible w/ some formal dark academia outfits. btw: the booties have a 3.5 inch heel
I used to live in New England but moved to a warmer climate when I was 11 and I wish I still lived up there because then I could enjoy more of the dark academia fashion for longer than just winter 😭
Hi! Are you Asian or Filipino? If so, how do you manage not getting overdressed or getting too hot while wearing academia themed ootds? 🥺 it's hard to dress the academia way in tropical countries since the original academia aesthetic was inspired or originated in a country with cold climate
I’m fil-am so it gets a bit hot where i am in the US but not as hot & humid as tropical countries. I dont have much experience with that kind of humidity but i would guess it’d be helpful to focus on lightweight fabric types like linen, wearing short sleeve button up shirts instead of long sleeve, pleated shorts instead of pleated trousers, etc. It would probably help to look at vintage 1940s-50s summer outfits!
Why can't you do this? If you live in a hot country then try going for a light academia style. Light academia clothing consists of blouse's, dresses, thin cardigans. Use pintrest for more ideas. If your finding trouble finding the right clothes use online shops like shein. If you live in the UK go to h&m or New look and top shop.
Collared shirts or mock neck shirts if those feel any better! Camp collar shirts are a great alternative for regular collared shirts bc they have a lower neckline. Or even a tank top can work if you style it under an academia-style blazer or cardigan! Or a nice blouse with any neckline in a neutral color :)
Wow! I love how informative your video is. However, being a music major in college I feel like I’ve incorporated some of the academic aesthetic fashion styles in my everyday outfits. Still, I have days where I really want to look as comfortable as possible and just ditch the blouse and skirt for a comfy T-shirt and joggers. 😅

You may have tips for shoes and pants for colder climates. I saw that the shoes you recommended have a lot of open pieces. This is way too cold in the winter and autumn where I live. Do you have any tips on how to style this with long socks or denser shoes in dark academia style?
Thats a great point, I should have included more options for colder weather in my video! For a colder climate I would definitely wear boots instead of oxfords/loafers/mary janes. I think ankle boots or knee high boots in a neutral color like black or brown would definitely fit the dark academia aesthetic! For pants I would focus on the material and look for thick, warm fabrics such as wool or corduroy, and of course layer some leggings underneath (maybe fleece-lined leggings).
I love your videos. Only if you has posted this one in June, when a bought one wool trench coat and a velvet jacket. The problem with that? I live in Brazil, right now on December it begins the summer in the southern hemisphere, I bought the pieces in the beginning June to use at my university because I was confident that quarentine was gonna be over. I literally can count on my fingers the number of times I have needed something so warm as WOOL in Brazil. Especially in the region where I live. Anyway, because of the different whether I am forming my one "tropical/naturalistic" dark academia wardrobe and your videos are a inspiration. ❤❤❤

Perhaps you can take elements of dark academia and wear them in a comfier way, for example baggy trousers instead of fitted ones and slouchy cozy cardigans layered over turtlenecks. I think my lazy academia lookbook would be useful for you! It’s in my dark academia playlist :)
I think the ones in this video are from Chuu but i also have some trousers i bought secondhand off Depop and i highly recommend shopping for them secondhand! You can find some cool vintage options and if you use Depop or similar secondhand apps/websites you can also message the seller for measurements to make sure they’ll fit you :)
Any chance you can recommend good places to buy DA style trousers? I love the look of a nice high-waisted trouser and have so much trouble finding ones that I like.
Ugh trousers really are a pain to find! I have the best luck shopping secondhand for vintage trousers, i especially like looking on depop (though i find prices can be higher than other secondhand options). I have seen some decent affordable options at ASOS and H&M as well

I love looking for secondhand first on depop, poshmark, thredup etc or thrifting in person if its safe to do so in your area rn. Other than that i would probably check ASOS or H&M!
One of my brown pants is from a Korean store called Chuu that has some good options but unfortunately they are one size. Most of my other trousers i get secondhand, usually on depop! I love shopping secondhand for trousers bc there are great vintage options that really fit the aesthetic :)

Hmm like a checkerboard pattern or like plaid or houndstooth? I think plaid definitely fits, checkerboard pattern may not fit DA exactly but could definitely still look cute with a DA outfit!
