In RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 you can build a figure 8 loop. I wanted it in RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 as well so I designed one and in this video I show you how to build it.

Personally I find it really weird that out of all the coaster types that are available, the hypercoaster is the one that got this element in RCT3

I don't think so! If anything I think it's weird that it DIDN'T get inversions in Rollercoaster Tycoon 2, because Arrow Dynamics is reknowned for their inversions, considering they were the first to offer coasters with inversions to customers, it was always their trademark.

With this focus on the number 8, I kind of expected you to mention how the Dutch word for Rollercoaster, "achtbaan", literally translated means 'eight-track', because the very first rollercoasters in history often traced a number 8 when looking from above (a horizontal one though, obviously, not a vertical one).

I'm loving your videos! I was never allowed RCT2 as a kid. My parents thought I spent enough time playing RCT1. Only now, in my 30s I've rediscovered this gem of a game. Thoroughly enjoying your channel!

Huh, I've always done figure-8 loops with a large half loop -> in line twist to set up for the smaller loop.

That does work, but it will be incredibly wide at the bottom and not really look like an 8. My goal here was to have the name describe the element as close as possible.

It’s insane how much 2mph makes stat wise. Just a few 0.## g’s more makes it go from a 6.74 to a 9.20 rating.

I think you should do a series on coaster designs. Even though you've told people the stat requirements, and how-to build specific coaster sections (like this one) and have even given download links to pre-made designs, I still can't design a coaster to save my (guests) life. I'd love to see you do a walkthrough on basic design principles, classic features, common mistakes and how to avoid them, etc. I love this game and I've never figured out how to make a coaster that didn't suck

This is cool. Reminds me of that Skiffa Loop you showed off last week. I'll bet there are a lot more of these sorts of things that could be discovered! Everybody go hunting for cool new combinations of track pieces, let's leave our mark on the game with them!

I've used a similar concept to do a sort of ghetto loop on non-inverting coasters like the hypercoaster; level to steep, two steep turns, steep to level, then reverse it to get back to level. Forms a loop shape (especially if you add some straight track to the top to even things out) and has the similar effect of sending you back to the same direction, but slightly offset.

It's an 8 alright, one that needs to hit the gym but sure. S loop next? inline, halfloop,inline, halfloop. I probably didn't invent it but still, I love to think I did.

I think you could call the one with 2 next to each other at 2:38 an 'Octopus Loop', I know there isn't quite 8 'legs', but still, the shape reminds me of one

This is great! I think it looks especially cool on the wooden coaster, with its wider track and cross-braced supports. I'll definitely be using this in future designs.

Dang, just compare this old but fun game vs forgettable modern games. Coming up with simple but fun designs just makes me wanna keep playing this game for a long time. ^_^

That's not really fair saying modern games are forgettable compared to old games. There are many many forgotten old games that nobody talks about anymore, and some new games that will stand the test of time like RCT has. Every generation of games will have it's gems that keep being played for decades and the games that are forgotten about after a month. I mean heck, just look at how many times they have managed to repack and resell GTA5 and Skyrim for some newer games with staying power. For an example from this time period, per Wikipedia there were 715 game cartridges released for the NES. How many NES games can you think of off the top of your head? Most people know games like Mario, Metroid, or Zelda, but how many people would know what The 3-D Battles of WorldRunner is?

I've felt like I've made this on accident back in elementary school when we had a class that we could have fun in and played rct2. That was my first experience with rollercoaster tycoon series.

This gives me some inspiration for a loop-in-loop - Inversion -> half-loop down -> loop -> half-loop up -> inversion. Wonder if that one is possible...

Fun Fact: Rollercoaster means Achterbahn in German. Literally translatet it means "Eight(s) Rail This is becuse the first rollercoaster in Germany was in the form of an Eight (8).

It was actually a design by a German showman who wanted a new traveling coaster for the fair circuit. It never got realized even though Zierer had shown a scale model of it at IAAPA at some point

would include a lightshot screenshot but youtube really hates links to external websites for some reason. with the 4d coaster you can use quarter loops to perform a figure 8 loop without any steep turns, although I use an s-bend at the top of mine. But you can still take it at extreme speeds because the train slows down a lot by the time it reaches the top of the loop.

A good idea for a track piece would be one whereby the loop is in the air going downwards and you go around the outside of it instead of the inside of it.

does using a coaster type with boosters available like the one showed at 2:40 allow a version with wider speed tolerance? Im thinking you could put a single booster right before the top loop so that the train can enter the element at a lower speed.

Have you tried a half-loop-vertical-loop-half-loop configuration with the lay-down coaster? Of all of the ones listed here, it seems like that one might have the best chance of having be a double loop because it can switch between right side up and up side down easily. I could be very wrong about it though, particularly with spacing, but it seems like it could work.

Several of these types could use the vertical twist element instead, to get rid of the lateral g-force in exchange for making it taller.
