This is how I build my floating deck which is one of many backyard "projects" I completed during the Stage 4 Lock Down in Melbourne 2020.
You probably can not believe that we actually build another smaller one only a couple of weeks later.
If you like, you can watch on this link:
• Small Floating Deck 20...
Declamation: I am not a professional carpenter. The way I built my own floating decks is not textbook instructional material for you to follow. I built it as a DIY project which I enjoyed the process and the outcome is within my expectation.
Please read the comments and share your thoughts.
Updates in Oct 2021:
I just finished painting both floating decks. You can check it out via the link below:

Was wondering roughly how much it cost you to build this ? Also does it just sit on the pavers? No digging holes at all ?

As sewage piping underground, we have limitation here to build a decking in a normal way (digging holes for posts) which I actually preferred. We finally decided to go ahead with this floating deck. It's much easier to build and as solid as I hoped. I'll check my records for you to see how much we spent on it.

@@huangjianbin thanks for the quick reply. I am thinking of building something like for the kids to skateboard on. We have a bush block with no concrete drive, just gravel and is impossible for them to Skate on. Was wondering if I can do it for sub $500. Also would like to be able to pull it apart and move it if I wanted to, hence no holes.

@@huangjianbin everything just from Bunnings ? That is pretty good pricing for such a large decking. I think I might give this a go, helps to have you video as a guide.Thanks a lot for checking your receipts and getting back to me.

@@ConfusedNDazed Yep, everything from Bunnings. If I can do it, so can you.

If severe weather or tornado comes through this deck would go airborne..I would have anchored at least the four corners..

This is a bad way to build a deck, you should never use tongue and groove.

When will you finish the job? Typically, you would use planks or decking boards, not what looks like huge sheets of MDF! Looks half done
@huangjianbin
@huangjianbin 3 года назад
Yes, it is half done, but already in use with some rubber mats on top.

As a qualified joiner, don't follow this! I hand cut quicker than he does with a rip saw🙄 mdf will be fkd so don't put that on the frame! Plus no membrane or dpc applied to the joists. So they'll rot straight away! And a actual floating deck is just amateurish!

@@delboy6364 I agree with you on pretty much everything you said. As I declared in the video, I am not a professional carpenter. So the way I did is not textbook instruction for those who are looking for a standard method of building a deck. We have been using this not-professional-made floating deck for more than one year by now. All are happy memory. I didn't expect it could last for decades, I have done my best to balance the cost and the safety integrity at that time. I admit there are many places I could have done in a better way. Thank you once again for sharing your thoughts.

Most of the rainwater will drain away as the flooring was built with a slight slope. The original design is to build a glass sunroom on it probably next year.

Yes, we can see you are not a professional carpenter. That is quite obvious. Sorry my friend, this is really a video on "how not to build a deck". Yellow tongue will not last long outdoors, just one of many errors.
