never thought i'd be able to sit through an entire 18 minute video of watching a guy build a gym bench...but buff dad made it very enjoyable. if you're reading this, keep up the good work and the effort you put into making these videos is much appreciated.

***** okay with your comments and the others I won't stop now. Initially Hudson says we should do a diy thing and thought, (because of my fear of how it would be perceived), "I don't think that would work there's tons of diy stuff." I wouldn't of done it if it wasn't for the Buff Dudes. Now because of the Buff Dudes family I have my own channel diy Duke. I want to make the diy projects interesting and useful and of course build more gym equipment so thank you so much.

Mr100700551 I'm very sad that your Dad passed before you two had a chance to do those things together. So sorry. I know that when you become a father that you'll do fine because you recognize how important it is to spend time with those you love. We never know what we've got until it's gone sometimes. I personally never had a Dad that I did much of anything with, he was hardly around and when he was he was drunk a lot. So I remember telling myself if I ever become a father I'm going to try to be a good one. Thank you for sharing those personal words.

I constructed a bench following his advice. The bench is perfect for home Workouts during the quarantine. I weigh 211lb and used two 55lb dumbells and it feels safer than some benches in the Gym. Stay healthy guys don't let Corona get to you!!!

Stumbled across this by accident today, totally forgot this was the video we watched to build our gym bench a few years ago! Easy video to follow and this totally works. We’ve had it for 3 years now and it’s still solid - glad I came across this again, I’d recommend this video to anyone looking to build a bench. We happened to have a pad lying around that was the right size and we fastened that to the top as well.

man you rock, this DIY videos inspired me to do my own home gym, the tricky part will be to actualy buy weights plates, maybe there is a workaround, any ideas??? they are expensive as hell.. :(
@Archangeldawn
@Archangeldawn 9 лет назад
Look for specials, I bought a new 300lb Barbell Cap set from Academy during the holidays for $160, it included the Olympic Bar, 2-45lb plates, 2-35lb plates and so on, which they usually retail for $209. For the amount of weight, it is quite a steal! Or you can always use Craigslist. The weights may be a bit rusted, but they'll be cheaper....Alao DIY Duke did make a DIY on creating your own weights from empty protein tubs.
@progressiveastronaut
@progressiveastronaut 9 лет назад
Archangeldawn damn that's super cheap, well is so hard in this crap yountry of mine.... i dont mind rusty ones as long as they are actualy weights and i need at least 200kg of em so that's like 600$ for that amount of weights (cheapest deal i could find, used equipement) so you see my struggle..
@Archangeldawn
@Archangeldawn 9 лет назад
I see the struggle is real. Well like Buff Dudes have said before, it's an investment in yourself & one that will keep on giving as long as you keep active. Just save up & keep looking around. No matter how long it takes, you'll find a decent set. Good luck!

Just built this! Very good directions! Thank you! Here's what I spent: $12 for the 4x4, $15 for the brackets, $8 for the vinyl, $20 for the foam = $55 I had the plywood and screws laying around. I went with 1" foam due to the cost (probably could have found it cheaper, but it was convenient). It's awesome, should work well! Thanks!

Update6 months and I'm still loving this bench. ru-vid.comUgkxo_64lVTGMk7y4aXTPxPOcQ3YTLyQ6kYV I use it almost daily. I've gotten used to the small wobble and it's no problem at all. Love the storage, it folds right next to my weight set in the garage and hardly takes any space. I wish the covering material was a little bit tougher. I have a feeling that in a couple years it'll tear, but the bench is very well priced that I would just buy a new one.3 month usage review. Awesome bench for someone looking for compactness and storage. I did have to drill a couple holes to adjust my preferred seating position and leg bar position but that's only due to my personal preference. It's very sturdy for normal workouts, but for anyone going above 100# dumbbell press it wobbles ever so slightly. I would probably go with a fixed bench if that's the case. That being said i can accomplish 99% of my normal gym workout with this setup. Very happy with the purchase.

If your looking for cheap ways to build a bench. Get a pallet from the dump for the 4x4. You can also get plywood there most of the time. Thats how I build a home gym with my dad when I was younger living out on his farm. He had the tools and we got most things from the dump. Not the coolest thing to admit but free is free.

Made one yesterday and went 18" 4x4 at the head (had a 18" piece already so why not?). I added a 10" 2x2 under each end to give a little more support for step ups. I didn't cover it yet but a couple towels on there and it's good to go. It's the most sturdy bench I've ever used, Rogue level sturdy. I already had the tools and scrap wood, the screws and strong ties were about $18 at home depot. Thanks for this video! Much more practical and rugged than other DIYs I've seen.

The part where BUFF DAD kicked around the bench was hilarious! Will probably give this a go but unable to decide due to an active membership but keep the videos coming!

I built this just last week and made a modification for a permanent preacher curl attachment on the end. It has worked out great for me so far and I will be working on some of the other builds in the near future.

Great video. I just built one following your instructions and my boys said it looks and feels like a professional bench!

Wow, I built one with help from my dad a week ago, and it looks really similar to yours. Except it has a 2x4 going from one of the legs to the other on the bottom, and we used 4x4 brackets to keep the 4x4s in place. I also decided to go with 1in plywood and it holds pretty sturdy. I decided to also go with 4 layers of cotton batting, because some of the foam from hobby lobby was a bit expensive since I was trying to stay on budget lol.

Thank you for this. I live abroad, and all exercise equipment is marked up 200-300%. Now I can have a gym bench. Thanks again.

I've now built 2 benches. Absolutely love them! Didn't pad them and feel just fine. Also do well on step ups

Or even just a fixed incline bench would be great and I could build both if it keeps the building process simpler. With all the gyms closed this is prime time for some more DIY videos!

Those Simpson Strong ties are almost $2.00 each here in Canada. It was cheaper to glue and screw it with 6 in screws for uprights and feet. And a small 2 X 4 for the main beam and uprights for bracing and support. But you guys gave me great ideas .This senior does it for the extra income. The fabric was the killer for me. Had to buy a membership to get the discount. If I make a dozen benches, it'll pay for itself. Wife's happy, keeps me out of the house and into the Garage. 2 Thumbs up. ***

Lol ... "Four Buh' Fours"? Here in Canada we use "Fer 'Be 'Fers". This build is amazing. Honestly would never have thought of using wood for a Power Rack/Bench setup. I was about to spend $2500 on a used setup + weights. I am a contractor, these materials will cost me virtually nothing. Glad I found this video. Appreciated, thanks.

Made this bench today. I used a 12”x48” for the top instead of 12”x50” and it’s totally fine. Home Depot has precut 12”x48” pieces already. Instead of vinyl from a different store, I used a painters cloth with polyester on the bottom. I have the bottom side facing up to make it water resistant. Again, this worked totally fine for me. This easily could be the most sturdy bench I’ve ever used and the most comfortable bench I’ve ever used. Used 3” cushioning at Home Depot.

Great instruction. Followed it to a t. Well, except the throwing around and kicking it. Didn’t have the heart to go through that part of the testing and quality assurance process. 😊 But it’s a sturdy bench. Already it is proving mighty useful in all kind of exercises. An excellent addition to my home gym. And a good looking one too!!! Thanks BUFF Dad. You are the Duke of DIY!!!

You are so awesome! Love watching you DIYDUKE. That should be a hashtag for all the buff dudes and dudets who make your equipment! What I'd love to see is you tackle the Jacob Ladder! It's like a treadmill sort of thing but instead of running you use both hands and feet and continuously climb! It'd be so cool!

Just made the bench with my two boys. Didn't go into padding or fabric or painting yet though. Figured I would leave it bare wood and see how I feel about it. It will live in the garage and be a seating bench as well as a workout bench. Very simple instructions. Worked out well.
