Inspired by the great work of Phi Paradon protecting hornbills on the island of Kho Yao Noi, we as OurLand built our own hornbill box. We know that there are oriental pied hornbills living in and around the property of OurLand, but we are not sure if they find natural nesting sites in big old trees that are good enough for them. That’s why we built and set up our first hornbill nesting box. We used wood from a nearby rubber plantation in the village of Wang Dong and constructed a box which is one meter in height and 50 cm broad. The entry side for the birds is abound 15 cm high and 8 cm wide. We used a tin roof to protect the nest from the rain and placed it in a rain tree near the OurLand eco-village. Now we only need some hornbills to come around!
