I had to rebuild my mailbox after a drunk driver hit it and decided to use this design. I can confirm 100%, it did not hold up when another backed up into it(Of course not lol). I liked the design so much I am now making it again. Thanks for the tutorial.

That's great, just be sure not to get the cuts too wide. They must fit tight to last. Good luck with your project and have a great day.

@@DIYwithWayne one last question. For the diamond cuts what angle was your saw set to? Thank you!
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne 3 года назад
It was set to 45 degrease. You could adjust that to most any angel you want.

It is trivial to build a post that will be long lasting due to weather and environment, it is vastly more difficult to build one that will be long lasting when trucks backing out of the driveway across the street keep backing into it :-). Every time I have to put it back up I think about making a concrete ball and socket so it will just rotate when hit and I can just rotate it back up.
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne 2 месяца назад
In your case, the ball and socket would be a great idea. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

Dumb question: what is the angle of the miter saw when sawing the end of the post?
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne 3 года назад
NO, It's not a dumb question. I should have told in the video what angle I used. It was a 45 degree on the end at the mailbox door and a 45 on the back of the cross piece and top of the post. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

Very detailed video Thank You Wayne. I may have missed it but what length nails did you use?
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne Год назад
Thank you for the kind comment. The nails were just less than the length to go all the way through the 4X4. I think they were 3 1/2 or 3 3/4. If you get nails that are just a little too long, just put them in at an angle. Thank you for visiting, have a great day.

Any tips on sourcing the wood? All the local box stores have poor quality 4x4's with knots and twist and soaking wet from the pressure treating process. I don't want to wait months for them to dry out and risk twisting up in the process.
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne 2 года назад
I got mine from the big box store near me because it was easy. There may be some twisting but I have had very little. Just pick through the supply and pick the best you can. Good luck with your project and have a great day.

What model # is that circular saw?
@DIYwithWayne
@DIYwithWayne 3 года назад
I think it is DeWalt DSC391 but it is either the DeWalt DSC393 vs DSC391. The saw is not at my house now or I could tell for sure. Thank you for visiting and have a great day.

@@DIYwithWayne lol. Here in SC, we never know who’s going to hit it. Mine got nailed once and replaced 3.5 years ago with pre-built from big box store. PTL or cedar, can’t recall, but rotted to the core. So now replacing. Wanted to build like u did but lumber so green and I have to paint (HOA) 🙄. And didn’t want or couldn’t wait 60-90 days to prime/paint PTL. NICE cuts on cross brace. I’m dissembling the one I just bought (wasn’t green). And reassemble. I will likely use deck screws and counter sink Good point you made with the screws for mailbox. Too many over look this. I may get lazy with liquid nails. 🤣. We call it the SEABEE CAN-DO method. Look forward to checking out some of your other vids. 👍👍
