What’s up everybody? Today’s video is just a quick overview on how to build a low cost shooting range target system. All I used was the following supplies.
3 treaded lumber 2x4
2 Saw horse brackets for 2x4
10 3/8 lag bolts 2” long
10 3/8 nuts
10 3/8 lock washer
40 3/8 washers
10 hook screws
10 one foot long chain links
Steel targets
Here is the link where I bought the targets off eBay.

I've built several of those kind of targets for my range and some advice from my experience would be to keep several sections of chain and a good handful of smaller sized bolts handy, the splash from the impacting bullets will erode the exposed heads of the bolts and of course, direct impacts will shoot them off, hence the smaller sized bolts. Also, near misses will seem cut the chain even with small 9mm rounds, much less anything bigger. I went so far as to stop using chains entirely due to them being cut and use cut up fire hose instead and they will take numerous hits before giving you any problems and since it was being thrown out, it was free for me. I've been on some ranges where they use convey belt sections leaving only the bolt heads getting hit as the weak point. Almost forgot one other thing, the splash from the bullets will take out the wood in fairly short order, at least it did for me, to the point that my legs wouldn't last more than a month generally, I welded up the legs and frame using some 2 inch 3/8 thick angle iron with the angles pointed towards me on both the front and back, that frame has yet to fail and it's been up for over 3 years. I got my steel from a scrap yard really cheap, you can sometimes pick up target steel there also, most of my original targets were 3/8 and 1/2 plate I found there. I even got a drive sprocket for a small dozer and hung it up and it's still there after 10 years, but that is for my extended distance range at 500 yards for just playing, it's too big for much else.

Nice setup! I just got back from Home Hardware and purchased the brackets and 3 2x4x8 treated ($38 up here in Northern Alberta) I had some 3/8" steel plates I have been saving to make a target but I never even thought of using this type of set up. Cheap and easy to make. Thank you! 👍🏼

It says the AR 15/ 556.223 100yards out. They will come back at you. Dope set up thought. Be safe out there

Possible but very rare because as the bullet hits the plate, the plate is going to move, which is going to most likely ricochet the bullet elsewhere other than straight back. But I have shot .223 and have not had any issues at about 100 yards

Do your steel targets have 3/8" holes? The ones I bought have 1/2" holes so I wasn't sure if I should still use 3/8" or 1/2" bolts

I honestly don’t remember. I would have to go up in the woods and measure them again.

I’d suggest getting some old tires and making your hangars from the tread portion. They take a ton of abuse and free tires are all over or purchase old throw away ones from the local tire shop
