In the event you see this: Lift and lower seems to be challenging, and I’m smaller, older, and weaker than you. Also I’m inclined toward latex which is quite heavy. Thoughts?

I so regret my purchase after having dealt with Lori Beds. My bed is basically a $2K pile of trash as per Lori after a single disassembly. Their claims of "generous warranty" are just feel-good marketing.

Dear Jeff, I built a Murphy bed . It only took me a year. I bought birch laminated plywood, ( never use birch it doesn't stain well)a very thin layer of birch (don't sand too much). The kit came with DVD, shocks for lowering and raising bed and other necessary metal hinges. It was fun, it turned out great. Saw horses and a 5/8 sheet of plywood were necessary for square assembly. I used 4" thick piece of solid insulation to cut my sheet goods on the ground. Finally, I used birch edge banding for exposed plywood cuts. It was fun! Create a Bed $249.00

In the US, usually Roberson bits are mainly used on mobile homes and campers. Phillips and Torqx bits are the most common used in most other carpentry or mechanical applications, but we do use flathead bits in a lot of electric applications. Out of all the bits, I prefer Torqx, because they don't strip as easily as the rest. They have more surface area on the bit, meaning more area for the bit to apply force over.

Just want to say this first love your Chanel! I have installed 4 Murphy beds in my 18 years of being a high end cabinet installer. It has always taken twice as long to install them as what you would think. ToGet the counterweights everything square all the springs set correctly is a long and tedious process you need the mattress on site to make sure everything works with the weight of the Mattress. Basically the Murphy bed and mattress when moving it should be weightless with the car owner balance of the springs not only will this protect your floor your walls but there’s a liability of a child getting crushed by the bed or anybody else. I would only let professionals installers do this. Murphy beds as you can be liable for anything that might happen to somebody

I just received this bed during the beginning of this month (a twin) and I'm so glad that the bed parts came with a stickered label, but we did have to pre-drill 10 pilot holes for the cabinet assembly parts (which I haven't done before so I got my brother to help me haha). Because we both are inexperienced, we should take about 8 hours in total minus our breaks. We just have to drill the top brace to the wall, attach mattress strap, and install the locking hardware.

nope Ii donty think its wise, from my point of view im in good shape wth the usual lower back isses that not bad , however im looking at this and I;m buying the muphy hardware to keep my back safe. Of course im a long time caepenter and doubt mind the extrawork. its about 280 for thr lift mechanism and 700 for material , so 1000,00. and that include well written planes. takes longer to assembly to it helps to get your local homedepot to cut all you wood pieces.,,,,great plan with cutting detals...finger tip controls to lift bed no more than 3 inched and it travel the rest on its own, And this one is not even connected to the heah board so when you pick iy out to agreesively or someones you will pulliy out from ther wll snd need tewo to lift it bsck in plsce,,,,jNOTE..hope i hsve not discoursgrd sny one..its all fune but good question...goof luck be loved and pass it on.

Thanks, Jeff! I work with Habitat for Humanity in N GA, and we happen to be building a murphy for a mom & disabled kiddo. He sleeps in her room so she can make sure his nighttime respirator functions throughout. This helped so much!! (For myself, I'm wondering if you have a garage where you took the door off & framed/finished and closed it in?) I watch your stuff before every project. Helps so much!

Get a hardware kit from Murphy Bed Depot, and find a way to incorporate it in to this, then you might have a bed that is easier to function.

If I remember well, a complete good quality Murphy bed mechanism with two gas spring pistons included is around 300 US dollars. This bed was $1000 plus?! For what?

Uneasy? Mmmm, I’m sorry, I’m thinking more like unimpressed. You did a great job as usual with the video, but no instructions, no labels. Hard to assemble. Gymnastics to get the locks on. It was wobbly and heavy coming down with NO mattress. You didn’t show lifting it up, so I can only imagine how difficult and dangerous that would be. I’ve seen much better & safer kits with pistons that make the actual raising and lowering of the bed safe. I guess we know why this is “cheap/budget friendly”. I am planning a Murphy bed build, but this brand is a definite pass for me.

I love your videos but this one was a little disappointing. Really thought it was a murphy bed build done cheap. But you are just assembling a pre fab bed thats like 1100usd. Dont get me wrong the video is awesome and the information is useful how it all comes together. But this isnt a build its an assembly. I bet you could totally do your own build with your own design based on what you seen here. And thats not a lot of wood im sure you could deisgn one for a couple hundred bucks. If anyone can do it, Jeff can!

Create a Bed Murphy Bed system $249 You have to buy the plywood, cut and assemble. I did it and it was relatively easy. It took a while for me to complete but I learned a lot and bought more tools for myself. I just finished drywall in a basement thanks to Jeff's wonderful help. I own even more tools now. It's so great!

It is cheap for a Murphy Bed, they cost more than regular beds... Even DIY you're still going to be around this price and that's assuming you don't have to buy tools, etc. Here's an article giving a better idea where Murphy bed costs range... www.howmuchisit.org/murphy-bed-cost/ But that was before lumber prices skyrocketed this year, now they cost a lot more! Though, it's leveled off a bit since October's peak but are still 50% higher as the new norm... Besides, you're all forgetting the 15% off code he's giving and you can check if it can be combined with the $100 off sale they got going right now... While a kit saves time in assembly and labor.

Really think some kind of hinge should be at the bottom. Also seems awkward to lift up and down without a mattress. Wish you would have operated it with the mattress on. Not sponsored but free products are a form of payment. Would you spend money on this?

one thing he didnt say is on every screw you should use a little tiny bit of wood glue so 2 years down the line it doesnt get loose where you have to tighten it and loose your tightness in your screws.

Folks, I bought a Lori Bed because of by trust and good will towards this channel. Well, this is a warning to others: the honeymoon was over after I had to disassemble mu bed to move it. The aluminum captive nuts/flush fittings failed on three of the pieces. Lori Beds informed that these parts are not replaceable since the openings in the plywood would be loosened up from initial installation. Lori warranty DOES NOT COVER damage during disassembly. So beware you are paying very serious cash for an essentially single-use furniture item here. Lori Beds won't supply replacement parts. BUYER BEWARE!

12:40 That's why i always do one of two things. 1, ignore the manual completely and go at it on a whim. 2, read (well look through) the manual completely first. Sadly, my biggest problem is always thinking on forehand; 'nah, i got this, i don't need a manual.' (And, half an hour later, looking at the manual say; 'Oh, that's how i should have done that'.)

Funny. I just asked The King of Random to make a Murphy bed exclusively with Home Depot materials. I set up a loft bed, threw out my back, and decided to use it for storage and build a horizontal Murphy bed underneath. I have everything planned, but other projects keep coming up.

I suggest installing a pulley and a huck with a string maybe guided to the side so you can stand to the side of the bed and just pull the sting and the bed rises up. Installing springs could make the process of lifting even easier. You cud go wild and make all go up and down by a voice comand to. The possibility is endless. Call it the smart bed. Integrated hearing and cooling alarm, TV screens rising out of the foot of the bed wow I just invented the future. Lol

Great video as usual. However the bed is definitely missing springs or a gas piston. Seeing you lower and raise it is like bench pressing 200 lbs each time. Also please ask rockler to sponsor your video and they’d do it as this is a quality channel. They have a Murphy bed kit that you can build with plywood. Granted it’s not cut like this one but you can easily handle it.

The plywood separating when screwing in at 26:10 is unfortunate, since that will be visible when the bed is up, even from a distance (27:13).

Just pulled up the instructions. It says "Mark the holes you need to drill, based on where the catch should be positioned, and then use one of the drill bits provided to predrill the holes." Predrilling would have prevented the splitting.

He's a pro. Certainly, he isn't going to screw into the veneer without prepping it, I thought to myself. Then it splits it like the San Andreas Fault Line. After a slight cringe, I thought, OK, he's tired. He'll take the screw out, repair it, and do it again the correct way. Not only did he not repair it, he then proceeds to screw in the other screw along the same line, and boom goes the aftershocks. He lost my respect after simply ignoring his f---up and then does the same exact thing on the opposite side. There are various ways of preventing blowouts like his, and he chose to take his chances, making himself look like a hack.

@@LoriBeds just pre-drill the holes in the side frame. Those are the ones most at risk of splitting and ruining the look of your product.

Neat how some have the articulating, or just using gravity and bearings I guess so doesn't stick, shelves so you can leave the items on the shelf when raising and lowering. I like the hydraulic arms idea also.

I have that mattress in a box, my bed is so high to start with, and now I can't use the 'topper' because I needed a ladder to get in bed, and none of my fitted sheets fit as the pockets aren't deep enough- but the comfort is worth the downside on these types of mattresses.

I recently put together a loft bed kit. Instructions were in box 2. Parts for step one were in all three boxes. It didn’t get any better.

I like DIY and would like to someday build a mobile tiny home in the Philippines someday so I am really into this kind of content. Thank you everyone that works at Home RenoVision for this :) Are there videos on this channel or other channels on building a home in such a way to make home maintenance efficient for tropical climates? Wood vs Concrete, or if shipping containers are the way to go. I am thinking shipping containers are not all that great because of moisture build up and also heat hitting the metal would be like heating up a big toaster oven lol. Great video. Only what keeps the base steady to the bottom when it's open and close it? Also, is there somethingto help it go up and down a little easier?

Interesting he does not show stowing the bed with the mattress on - I reckon it would be VERY heavy and cumbersome at this point.. It is cheap for a reason - very poor instructions and the wood split on installing the right-hand clasp. Also not particularly cheap for what it is.

Hey Jeff. Great job of figuring it out on your own but you probably could have saved yourself a good deal of hassle by watching their own installation video found on their website. One thing I noticed in both yours and their instructional videos is that neither video chose to use wood glue during the install. Typically from what I've seen with any kind of DIY furniture making channels is that they always use wood glue for a better bond. What's your take on this?

wood glue and moving parts do not work well over time. just adding a messy step. besides the fasteners they supply are a great quality and will last longer than I will. Cheers!

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Glue is always used on load-bearing furniture, not necessarily as a fastener, but as a way to prevent creaking and squeaking between the joints.

You didn't show taking the drywall out and cutting in the framing for bed? Look liked you jumped from assembling bed with drywall on both sides to putting bed in spot?

I had this breathing issue. Couldn't take a flight of stairs without breathing heavy and stopping to rest. I did a carnivore diet for a month. Dropped 20 pounds, breathing issue went away and my joint pain disappeared.

Great video! I find all your videos very informative. I am looking to install a murphy bed in our home office for guests and need something my wife approves. However, I didn't see the hardware for the bed to pivot on (usually pistons) to make the operation of the bed easy for females and older folks.. Is there a way to include these..

@@jimyeats It is for Murphy Beds, they're generally a lot more. Sorry but Murphy beds are not cheaper than regular beds. Even if you DIY and just get the hardware, like from Rockler with their kit option, by the time you buy the lumber and put it all together you won't be much lower than that price. Especially, now with the crazy high lumber prices this year. Besides, with his code you get 15% off...

@@FaithfulMC Nope, again, lumber prices are a lot higher this year, never mind you're not going to use the low quality stuff unless you want the bed to look ugly, and a Murphy bed isn't a regular bed either... Want lower cost, a Murphy bed isn't what you're looking for...
