How to build a Natural Swimming Pool using the most widely copied Natural Pool system - David Pagan Butler's Organic Pools.
Free pdf visit organicpools.co.uk
and full HD DIY film on: vimeo.com/ondemand/organicpools
These pools work with nature to provide safe bathing water without the use of chemicals.
Bill made this pool for around £6,000. A fraction (1/10) of the cost of a commercial installation. The decking and paved areas were and additional cost. Bill bought David Pagan Butler's DVD (Natural Swimming Pools - a guide to building and designing your own) and Organic Pools DIY Manual. He also attended one of David's courses.

@Joshua79C
@Joshua79C 6 лет назад
ask about whether a white or black/green plastic tank is better, you will find the white tank is an algae farm, black is a good passive heating system to warm the water along with a medium to dark green or even blue also help keep algae at bay along with the plants providing natural algae killing oxygen into the water as well

Two Men in Fort Worth Texas built a spring fed public pool of 1 main gallon capacity in 1951, it had sand well fluidized bed filtration and was crystal clear, but the concrete didn't last after many repairs and a few owners it fell into disrepair after a drowning in 1981

Like this idea keen to try on a slightly smaller scale. I have extreme weather conditions in my part of the world. My biggest concern is alge forming,and evaporation during summer. Maybe a pond to to see how it goes first then a small pool. Thanks for sharing this, the pool looks very inviting, and I hope the owner enjoys his new pool.

Larger species of fresh water clams (never use zebra mussels) will filter additional microbes out of the water specifically things like algae. Enough vegetation should limit excessive algae growth through nutrient depletion.

The plants provide oxygen which is what keeps algae at bay, ever seen a pond using those floating fountains? those fountains are helping oxygenate and thus reduce to the point of elimination of algae. The plants are doing the oxygenation and filtration of certain other biologicals that are not harmful to you but to keep it in check.

For people who like to swim in natural clean water but don't like plants or animals when swimming, there are ways to create a Natural Living Pool that looks like a normal swimming pool. This type of Natural Swimming Pool is also perfect if you want to have a modern styled garden.

Won't the wood rot over time? And what about mosquitoes and such? I know the water isn't stagnate but still it would be considered a pond no?
@seigeengine
@seigeengine 10 лет назад
Yes, but the integrity of the wood will be maintained for years and years, and if you're that worried, the lining can tear, the cement and mortar can crack, etc. etc. And mosquitos require stagnant water to breed, which is why the problem exists. This body of water is circulating. Mosquitos won't be a huge problem. Plus mosquitos don't live everywhere, so where this guy lives is also a factor.
@clsherian

larsonny77 wood will not rot if it stays submerged.
@RepublicofTX
@RepublicofTX 7 лет назад
larsonny77 wood needs oxygen to rot, so if submerged then you're fine. You realize Venice, Italy was built on a wooden beam foundation right? You know how old that city is? It'll be fine.
@ertfgghhhh
@ertfgghhhh 6 лет назад
What about the frogs?
@Joshua79C
@Joshua79C 6 лет назад
Republic of Texas, actually Italy uses Piles it sit on, not just beams, and only sinking due to the wood deteriorating due to the movement of the buildings and people walking rhythm, woods does not live forever underwater where aquatic wood borers persist and is only 'sinking' due to tides thus why they have built those barriers to protect it sometime into the future. They really should look at replacing those piles with carbon/dyneema/fiberglass/kevlar composite piles as they are impervious to rust unlike steel, wood borers and rot like wood, or washout and rust deterioration like reinforced concrete. But that would be a vast and very highly costly operation

Looks like a flooded backyard... I don't understand why this is somehow better than a regular pool. It certainly wasn't any cheaper... Is it because it doesn't have a filter? Who wants to swim in unfiltered water... and fight mosquitos. You could have just dug a pond for 1/3rd less money, and been swimming in the same dirty water... And the only thing "organic" about it, is the plants growing around the edge... seems like a silly waste.

@youknowmetoowell1516
@youknowmetoowell1516 7 лет назад
David Ayers do they kill bacteria and parasites?
@RIPPER334
@RIPPER334 7 лет назад
David Ayers No... no. While some plants CAN absorb (and adsorb) SOME bacteria, and even a few heavy metals, these are typically leached fairly quickly back into the water colum. So using the term "filter" would be extremely loose in this example. Mostly what aquatic plants WILL do, is take excess nutrients from the water (even then, only what they need to grow), and as a result of this nutrient reduction, algae is starved... and you have clearer "looking" water. Again... using that term loosely. Plants won't do anything for parasites... they've never stopped a case of dysentery or foot rot... and the money you save on pool filter sand, you'll quickly spend on mosquito spray! Basically, unless you are a fish benefiting from a balanced nitrogen cycle, and the added oxygen in the water, plants aren't doing much for funky, mostly stagnant water... (which this will become without proper stratification)... especially in the few numbers planted around this flooded backyard. This is just another go-green money grab...

its organic in that the plants while they remove some biology stuff they provide oxygen and the limestone gravel along with charcoal filter also maintain health and clarity are all ORGANIC, so is the wood sleeper wall clearly seen, oh and if this is a pond, then I guess an olympic pool is still a pool even if it is built into a natural one.
