We built this natural swim pond for a client that wanted an alternative to your typical pool. Pond is 6ft deep and 35x40. It has a constructed wetland filter for water clarity and intake bay for skimming debris. The pond also has 8 jets to keep lower water circulating.

I am impressed with whoever had the lead for designing this beauty! And I suppose the owners aren’t all that concerned with the cost (meaning that they have this kind of money to spend), but what a bitch it will be to find the inevitable “leak” in the base membranes someday....whenever, 10, 15, 20, 25 years down the road? I can’t fathom how you’d begin to locate it....as you would in a conventional pool with a liner....under all that gravel and stone. Still, it is a beautiful creation!

i wonder if the black liner pollutes the soil over the time by breaking down to microplastics. if so i'd like to know there is a more environment friendly alternative of that.

Earthen bottom ponds require a bit of a different style of intake skimmer but its been done plenty of times by many contractors. That being said, EPDM liner, if installed properly, should last upwards of 20 years.

@fontanawaterfeatures
@fontanawaterfeatures 3 года назад
As with any pond, it is SOME maintenance but we wouldn't consider it high maintenance. The two main things are to clean out the intake bay/skimmer and flush out the wetland filter once a year. Also isn't a bad idea to add bacteria once a week. Pretty low maintenance compared to a pool with constant water chemistry checks and dealing with filters etc. The fact is, anything on this scale whether a pool or pond is going to take some upkeep.

@@fontanawaterfeatures How do you get your gravel in bags? The only place I've ever seen them is at the Home Depot, with ¾" crushed rock in them. Can you order them delivered that way, or do you fill them on site? Do you use more than one size of gravel in your projects? In your stream videos it often looks like the stream is all one size of gravel...

This catches water under to liner to avoid bubbling of the membrane. It sends it up a sump pipe outside the liner and exits the sump via a pipe tied into the house drainage.
