UPDATED METHOD: • How to Build Drivable ...
I found a way to fit everything you need into a raft base, in ARK Survival Ascended, using official settings, by clipping structures inside. In this tutorial, I'll show you how to lower foundations to build a fully functioning raft or motorboat base you can drive, fit for both PvE and PvP, and the tricks and tips you need to position and clip your structures to fit everything you could need for the mid-game inside.

Don't get me wrong, this is an awesome build. The problem is that a wooden raft with c4 can mesh into yours, blow the genny, and everything is gone. Solid content, just not practical for pvp. It SHOULD be, but unfortunately, it isn't thanks to the devs. Liked the video tho. Thanks for the content.

I agree completely. I’ve even put a disclaimer at the end of the video with the lack of change from the first game. Rafts are great fun in PvE, nice additional base for banter in PvP, but should never be your only option. Always been an easy raid. Do you not even need to dick boat now then? C4 isn’t placeable on rafts still right? And thanks for the like. Appreciate it 🙌🏻

People just tame dodos and throw the c4 on them to get around them not being placeable on raft themselves.

@toastbloke I believe c4 counts as a structure. So, if you have max structures placed on a raft, THEN they can't place them. However, c4 on their own raft is still an option. I'm sure of that as I've had that experience recently in ASA when trying to build up early game on small tribes with a couple friends.

Not silly at all! I just spawned one in to check. They're all still level 1 right? Turrets killed it in seconds. Didn't get a chance to even hit the raft, which means you should have next to zero Alpha Leedsichthys problems! Even fewer on a motorboat!

@@toastbloke great thanks. I love boats. But I got 2 shot by an alpha and lost everything. I want to put some turrets at bottom and kill everything that comes close. As long as I keep bullets full.

Get rid of the lil chests and put 2 large storage boxes there instead. More space for storage, plus you can put another turret down or whatever you’d like.

Exactly, you can change this up however you like! I just wanted to have a little more floorspace and try a few new things that weren't in the old game. By no means the perfect or best solution. Just some inspiration! 🔥

Indeed! With the fact you can get taps and cookers on in Ascended makes spending more time living on a raft actually viable!

something is different between official and the server you chose. My pillar stayed red when "inside" the sign regardless of Q mode. Since I was only using it for height, I just placed it back a bit and aligned my pillar in K mode. Once centered I spent a few tries getting the height right. Nice vids however, got me on the right track to do exactly what you've done in these vids. Thank you!

Are you on Xbox? It seems to be a console issue. A more streamlined way has been found now, based on this, that works on Xbox and PC so I'll pin it in a comment asap 😎 And no problem, glad it's been a help!

i'll ask the important questions: 1. Which eggs can be hatched inside? despite the room. 2.. Can crop plots be placed on it? 3. How effective the turrets are for wild dinos underneath? 4. How effective would multiple boats be in a generator range? Things i would change: 1. remove 2 pillars connecting the 2 corners for 2 more turrets 2. place the inside turret upside down above the anvil of the smithy, if it can be placed thought i saw it could. 3. as much as I prefer the 15-storage box design, I would use the 45-storage box instead or a vault if possible. to free up 2 more spaces. 4. I would use the rope ladder over the others, I am pretty sure you can roll it up, so it doesn't take room when not in use. 5. If can set crop plots i would like to add the remaining structure limit for x plants or more turrets I think that is all, at least currently on my mind. nice job.

Thanks! There are a lot of variations you can make, so change the design as you wish and if you want more things on like Plant X, build on a motorboat and you’re golden. It’s way better and has the higher structure limit 😎 I mainly wanted to showcase what could be done with the clipping and implement what I know from PvP raft building in the previous game, hence the choice of ladder beams and turret placement. Questions wise, I haven’t tried on this game yet, so I can only guess from the old game. I’d presume any egg if you have enough air cons. Yes, crop plots can be placed. Turrets underneath are great at protecting from wild creatures and at range combine with the ones up top, the more the better. The final one, I can’t say, but it’s given me some ideas, so thanks! 💡 It’s exciting working things out and seeing what can be done!

The thing with the water tank actually gave me a build idea. When i do pve i love building mobile bases so i could actually have some resevoirs on my bases and simply walk through an irrigated refeul station. This could be especially useful on scorched. Thanks for the information!

The new changes to platforms are very much a win. And that sounds great! Like walk your tame with platform through water, refill the water tanks and off you go without having to come back so soon! Might have to give that a go myself when Scorched Earth releases!

I really hope you see this I know this is pretty old but I’m playing ASA building a battleship with the motorboat, I can place literally everything on what I built except for the vault? like the one thing I need to put me stuff in? pls tell me there’s a way to bypass that

Vaults aren't allowed on platforms, unfortunately. It wasn't possible in the original game and they made the decision to not allow it in the new one too. It's a nightmare! You can change settings in single player and on unofficial servers to allow it, but there's no way around it on official settings. Sorry I can't help!

Hey, thanks! Appreciate it! I'm excited for you too! There's a lot of issues I'm sure they'll iron out, but it's still a really enjoyable game in PvE and Single-player. I'm going to wait until things improve a little before I jump into any PvP.

So gun boats are back nice. Did they add back quetzal gunboats also those were fun and great for killing cheaters. Most tames should gun ports or slots to custom on them on the saddle. There should be like sample saddles, platform, port holding saddles, massive armor saddles and platform port saddles all unlocked individually like saddle tech levels. They should add gun ports for bases for larger defend weapons and port slots. Like slotting a generator or weapon or scanner in structure that allows it to be directly protected by the special structural piece. Like adding a shield slot or weapon slot. A special wall or parts with slots for things to add more to base building.

Sounds like you've thought this through! Would be interesting to see how it all worked out in the game. I'm glad they kept turrets on rafts, but as far as I can tell, they still don't place on platform saddles. I never played back then, but some videos I've seen of that stuff looks crazy! Would have been cool to add it back in, even just to experience for a few months or a year!

They fixed it really early doors! Like, a week or two after I dropped this, but the video links to a newer video sharing what still works! Amazingly, if you built this before the patch, you've still got it!

I've just been playing single-player and messing on with things in creative for this exact reason. Official PvP, which was once my main things, just seems a mess and a headache. Absolute shame. The game could be so great for both communities if they balanced their focus!

I built a raft base with sunken foundation and I though I was safe- but a whale took it down with ease. R.i.p - rafts are fun but not safe.

Yes, the Leeds targets the rafts through foundations. It's annoying! Motorboat can outrun them better and turrets set to wild will make easy enough work of them. Raft life is super fun, but can be very risky!

When I made this cryofridges weren't in the game. I've not checked myself, but I've heard that now they are back, you can't place them on platforms anymore. They've made a lot of changes to how they work!

Appreciate it! They patched the raft collision on official sadly, but any servers with collision off, it's good to go! Glad it's still some use to people on servers where collision is off though!

The water tap is cool, but with you being on a boat, idk if you really need a water access point. or do you still need to attach the cooker to a water point? I haved gotten to play asa yet as my pc cant run it to well :/

You're right, it's definitely not needed, and in PvP in particular I'd rather have more defences that a tap etc. but it's a new feature, so I wanted to try and incorporate it to show it's easier to fill your canteens up, or even maintain Plant Species X with them. And the game has no pipes or cables now, so nothing has to be connected to anything. Water and electricity are now 'wireless.' As long as things are in range, they will work. Hope you're able to get to play soon!

Nice vid, have you got the lights working in rafts? It does not seem to turn on even when powered if in a raft or motorboat.

I tried putting them on my build and they wouldn’t do anything. I figured it was just a bug with the lights in general, so didn’t test them on land. Might be something to look into, but I think we’ll have to wait for a patch.

Can't tell you you're wrong. It's why I give that little disclaimer at the end. I'm so gutted they haven't fixed any of the raft issues from the previous game. They're so fun, but no good for PvP!

The foundations being lower allow all sorts to clip, so hopefully! I've not tried, but I'd don't see why not. Let me know if you're successful. I'll do the same if I get a chance to before then!

Pillar can't be placed when next to the sign. You must be using single player settings.

I just tried this on small tribes official pvp and it didn't lower the foundation. Followed what you did as best I could since the rafts woodgrain is different as it doesn't have the same markings. Any idea on what to do?

If you’re playing ascended the raft markings should be the same, but they do appear different due to lighting at different times of day. Is it just the foundation that doesn’t place, but the rest works?

@@jeffrothecker5881 We can figure this out, I'm sure. The method definitely works on official. It could be you're too close to shore and the ground below the raft is conflicting, or you're lowering the pillar a little to much. Try and get it right over the join on the sign. Slightly above is better than slightly below. Let me know if that helps.

I don't have an Xbox, so I can't check unfortunately. People have had problems with the sign, but nobody mentioned the structures. Have you got the foundations at the right height for it to work? @@lucasdiedrich8620

@lucasdiedrich8620 The only thing I can suggest is to try moving the raft somewhere else and/or going out of render for a minute. If it doesn’t work, like you say, it could be an Xbox thing. Fingers crossed it’s not!

The foundation won't snap to the quarter wall; Only ceilings. what am i doing wrong? Edit: I was too low inside the raft.

You must be placing the pillar slightly to low. There’s very little margin for error, but there are some tips that can help in the pinned post for now. Let me know if they work.
