That sounds like a very practical way of covering them up. I'd honestly never thought of doing that but maybe there are situations where it would be required so that's a great tip, thanks, man.

I've found (of course) a lot of inspiration from your excellent and beautiful work; Yesterday, i've tested the cascade; it looks good and nice; My daughter Maïwenn is so happy and she told me to to thank you I need for this pond a pump and a filter because Maï wants to see fishes in next april (3 maxi); For my part, I started to put aquatics and edges plants have a good continuation!

Definitely, yes. Its full of nitrates and organic matter which is an awesome fertiliser especially for vegetables. You're spot on there.

I'm not sure about it not feeling like I do a days work - getting wet and cold every day for 6 months of the year soon gets wearing - lol. I put my back out on the first day of this build and had to do the rest in pain. Its either do that or don't get paid which is the main drawback of working for yourself - what a bummer.

Just to add a bit of contrast. I originally used decking and it looked very flat.

I've done a few jobs in Jesmond. This one was just over the river at Gateshead. Plants don't need any oxygenation in the pond but if you intend to have fish in there too it would be beneficial for them to have water movement. A pump and filter which runs 24/7 is always better than a temporary fountain so if there's any way of getting electricity to the pond it would be advantageous. Most solar fountains / pumps are very unreliable just like the English 'summer'. Thanks for the sub, man.

Nice video, very informative. I enjoy watching someone explain what they are doing, at least someone who actually knows what they are talking about. So many videos are from folks who haven't a clue. Top job again. Your videos inspired my own pond build earlier this year.

Insulation was just standard 2" insulation from builders merchant and the underlay is 300g / sq. m polyfelt from Gordon Low (same manufacturer / wholesaler which supplies the liner)

Great video, you explained it really well, I'm looking at building almost exactly the same pond as in your video accept it won't be on top of decking. Really impressed that 2 foot high walls made of wood are strong enough to support that volume of water. I'm planning my pond same as yours but 2.4 x 1.4 x 1.2 meters deep and you've just given me some great ideas, Thanks :)

Yes we normally keep bricks on the folds while the pond is filling and that allows the water to press them down, than the bricks can be removed. Tension on the upright folds can keep them flat, no worries. Its just trial and error and if you're not used to laying liner you may need to drain and refill to get it right. We never glue the liner but it can be done if the liner is clean and dry.

Yes, that would work. I suppose there isn't any need to go with foundation as a first stage so whatever you are happiest doing.

I've decided to use the Auto Cleaning Pressurised Pond Filter PFC-75000 With Built-In 55w from ALL POND SOLUTIONS. Might even have a bash at making my own gravity shower. Beautiful work! To hide the jubilee clips (and protect small hands from cuts), wrap them with a strip of the Firestone liner 4" wide and 8" long, and secure with a black nylon zip-tie on either end around the tube. You can remove them by snipping the zip-ties. And the rubber strips are reusable. Cheers!

No worries, man. I was pleased with this one.

I missed that bit out but by looking at it the supports went from side to side then the uprights were banged down and secured to the outer edge. Supports for the shelf went back to surrounding 2" x 2" and also had pegs resting on top of concrete. Then top was screwed on.

Enjoyed the clips pal..Looking to sort a pond sometime next year when i got the garden straight , used to have a large koi pond at me old place

I would go for a nexus but add extra hel-x to top up the K1. UV filter would be 110 watt and pump would depend on waterfall / cascade etc.

No worries. Provided the carpet is acrylic (not natural fibres) it should be OK but if it is hessian backed or woolen you may have a problem with it rotting and producing gas which can cause the pond liner in the base to rise up like a bubble. Seen this on a few occasions when the gas has nowhere to go. One was raised above water level in a huge bubble and looked awesome. luckily it had been put in by someone else, lol Thanks for watching and appreciating the videos.

Just finished a pond with 4 very large koi in so will be uploading tonight. Most of the ponds I do are new builds so I just tend to film the construction but the next video will be of a redevelopment of an old pond which is a little different to the type I normally do. Should be live later tonight.

I really like your videos. Your attention to detail is exemplary. I assume - because I live in Arizona - that your insulation of the above deck pond framing is to account for the cooler temperatures. Interestingly, the subsurface in Arizona encourages a minimal depth of 4 feet in order to benefit from the soil - caliche - in moderating the extreme temperature changes over a 24hr period. I will look closer at insulation as many pond owners loose fish here assuming the day time highs are year round, which they are not. I am a backyard enthusiast only, but your videos are top shelf!

If the filter outlet and pump are at opposite ends of the pond the urn/water feature can be anywhere as you will still have good circulation. Thanks for watching and appreciating the videos.

If it is 8' x 8' surface area there will be muck more pressure pushing out than in the pond here so I'd maybe be inclined to revisit the sleeper method for better strength.

I have only one pond now but it is more like a lake. It shows up in plenty of my videos including 'fish rehoming pond' and 'garden update 2012'

Yes, I would always insulate if the pond is above ground and wood unless it was made of sleepers. I would never use carpet as an underlay - get the proper stuff and always go for 1mm rubber liner.
