Great job on the boat build! Really appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. Congrats on hitting the 30k mark, your channel is really quality viewing and I'm glad to hear you give thanks to the real Source of life and happiness. You are truly a blessed person. Thank you again and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Watched your video on slingshots I’m offing one of the scouts the orange and wood one. Some steel shots and your favorite bands set I like the scout because of the way you put it together after I start getting good with it I am going to order the torque slingshot keep the videos coming because I want to learn more and it seems to me that you are a good teacher you make everything look so easy
OMG you are very talented. Super awesome job wow! Well you don't have a son to teach all you know, but you might one day have a son in law that would love to see all your past adventures, buildings of things, to carry on the talents for generations to come. I see your wife or mother don't have to buy knitting needles or crochet hooks. You could make them and sell them too. Hahaha you have shovels on the ends of your ores wow lol great thinking! I think that is tears of joy behind the rain hitting your eyes. This is why I watch your channel. Your family has such a appreciation for the simple things in life and have the patients to learn and enjoy making things to help make life easier. This has got to be another one of your best video's yet. I love the music dub as well. Thanks for doing such long video on being out on the lake to show us just how well it works with the back drop of beautiful scenery. You must have froze your azz off with being rained on let alone the back of your legs and feet half in the water. This is hypothermia test as well. You knew when to go back before it set in all this could have been done in the warmer weather. But I think you were just too excited to wait huh? 50 stars **************************************************
should have usd three reed section and then two smaller one on a beam for stability then you could mast it , with a square rig awesome build buddy keep it going from from followers in the uk good channel
Roughly how much cordage was needed to do this? Did you have enough cordage on the show to do this or were you thinkin you'd have to weave some cordage to complete it?
The Native American reed boats I've seen on the west coast use a larger center bundle of reeds with two smaller reed bundles running on either side for exceptional stability. That and they make all the cordage out of the reeds, as well. AFAIK harvesting the sedge reeds that they use is restricted to tribal members in reservation areas.
Thank you for not saying "indians" As a Native American, it drives me crazy how many people refer to the the natives of North America as "indians" thanks to hollywood and what not. Peace to you.
one more for a keel, one to sit on so your legs aint in the water, and some outriggers and you'd have the real deal going for you. Might even be able to rig some sort of small sail. Best rig both a bag of rocks anchor and a sea anchor, tho, considering that you aint on a lake there.
thanks, but that's just history. Thor Heyerdahl and a small crew sailed a big reed boat across the Atlantic! Sheesh. Even with a backup boat ,radio, etc, that took BIG balls. Storms , fog, etc, and can prevent another boat from saving you before hypothermia kills you!
@@randomrhec-ness6783 Why do most people think that if you dislike a certain video or part of a video that makes them a hater..? I mean really. If somebody doesn't have your views or your likes a video that makes them a hater..? Or if somebody post a comment and it's not all warm and fuzzy or rainbows and unicorns that makes them a hater..? What if they just had different preferences..? Can you hear that..? I can hear a tree that needs a hug.
my newest channel sub, and love, love, love, not afraid to share your faith, hopes, dreams, truly an inspiration Fowler thanks for putting yourself out there you give me hope my friend! Much Love!
I was just thinking, how much trouble did you get into with the kitchen floor.😞 The scene looks like you would get at least a few weeks of bad dog treatment.😭
I went to a restaurant and asked for a steak and they said how would you like that to be cooked and I said as rare as Zachary Fowler making a bad video and they said sorry sir that's how you get hospitalized
Hey Zac, Awesomeness reed boat. Had you thought of drifting in a couple of thin wooden pegs just above water level, at about 45 degrees, to rest your heels on ? You'd reduce the drag from your feet. ?
Michael Glaesener: Cold Steel lists "improvised paddle" as one of the uses of their "Special Forces" or "Spetsnaz" shovel on their site: www.coldsteel.com/special-forces-shovel2.html
That is the coolest thing ever!!! I hope you kept it. It would be neat if you could continue to build on it and make it better and better. Like putting foot things or make it wider in the middle so your feet are not in the water. I would just like to see what else you could do with it. Great job Zach! Very impressive!
Thanks so much for the great clean content! My 7yr old loves it too!! You have inspired me to spend more time with him; making fires, figure fours, and getting him a cold steel shovel for Christmas.
Didn't know about the horse tail thing. thanks... my take away, The Dude likes orange. and a few other things , some technical terms that will help me fit in with the salty mariner types... I can't wait to use Droop-adge & whose your Daddy. follow up : So, those salty dogs aren't as nice as i thought they'd be... I got beat up ! So I'm un-thanking you Zack ;)
bro, 2 lbs of fish every 3 days is NOT "doing well" when it's your only source of calories, and when its cold, windy and damp. Your having lost 12 ozs of bodyweight per day, for 87 days, is proof of that. you'd have had to catch 10 lbs of fish per day to maintain your weight, and really should have been doing twice that well, so that you could preserve some for the days when you couldn't get out there. That's why you should have taken the 9 strand paracord gillnet and 2 person hammock, and woven lots of netting from those strands.
I'm your fan from Uruguay. Must be interesting if you had a big tarp to build a currach or some kind of skin on frame coracle. Gauchos here used to do coracles with cow's skin and saplings to cross a river. I didn't knew you won, didn't see the whole challenge, makes me happy. Happy new year. But your paddle sucks lol
Nice vid... you can wind and water proof the Fjallraven g 1000 fabric with their wax, just rub it on and and melt it in with whatever heat source. It Really works...
Awesome Fowler couple of outriggers for you kit and your sorted hahaha.Hope you and your Family and friends have had a wonderful Christmas fella.Peace.
Even at 70, a man needs heroes, and you are my new one. After watching about 20 vids, I've learned that you are pretty much a survival genius. I'm not a bit surprised that you won Alone, because not only are you an engineer, crafter, designer, and construction-man, you have what it takes to stay with a task until it gets done. Even, or especially, when that task is winning Alone. Your little wife is also a heroine in her own right. Best wishes. Keep your eyes on Jesus.
Does anyone watch Dual Survival? If so do you remember the boat that Cody tried to make from a big fallen tree and failed. Can you explain where he went wrong with it? I give him credit for trying and admire his survival skills.
Thanks for everything this year. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years. Bruce from the City of Orange in Orange county California
The tool you made is what we sailors call a "Fid." They traditionally made of either wood or bone, although these days there fids made of more modern materials such as plastic, nylon, or metal. They are amazing tools that can be adapted to a number of needs, from making rope, lashing with small stuff, building nets, or hammocks, etc...
hey zack, just to add to the challenge, how would you make all these things without string? i know (vines) but seriously, if you had no string things would much harder to build at the level you build them. . thank god for string.
I don't watch TV so I never saw the show but I've been watching your videos for a little bit just trying to feel you out and see what your all about I've been happy to not hear foul language and then I heard you say Lord God and Jesus all in a sentence. So I hit that subscribe button thank you and keep them coming
Wow! I thought it would sink! Good job. The one I saw they overlapped them in the middle with the tops of the reeds and didn't cut them off. That way the cut open ends were at the part bent up in the air. So no water could fill them. But it's awesome this worked too! Good job!
???? Zac if you make a third you can incorporate it in the center to make it wider. it would be more comfortable. keep up the good work and have a great Christmas and safe and enjoyable new year. ????
For wrapping and tightening those reeds a butchers knot would have been very helpful and saved you time. It is a knot that I use to keep bundled things together. Google it.
If I decide to move to Maine, How many day will I have to wait until my skin becomes immune to temperature like you have? If I live in Florida do I have any hope?
Zachary I just stumbled upon your channel a week or so ago. I am a huge fan of the show Alone and I watched you win season 3 with your 87 days. What an awesome channel you have and I'm bing watching all your videos. I just can't get enough watching your enthusiasm and positive attitude. I hope you keep on keeping on making videos and sharing your knowledge and experiences because it's fantastic to follow along. Take care, I'm a big fan of what you do and who you appear to be! Take care 👍👍👍😀👍😀
