Speaking as someone, who has literally never done anything like this, looks pretty nice, but doesnt really resemble natural fracture or erosion lines you would see in natural rock Since this type of background is something i will do in the future, i think i will try to find a picture of a rock formation i want to mimick. Maybe that will do the job. One thing i will say that i rarely see people do is make the background removable. Everybody just glues it in and it seems so counter productive in so many ways

I agree entirely, I think next time I’m gonna use a reference! This was an off the top of my head carving session 😂 but I fully agree that the lines don’t look massively natural. I’m also now unsure about the brown painting and moss painting.. but we’ll see on the next one! 😂 and yeah I quite like having it removable in case I ever change my mind

My aquarium backgrounds are filter sponge which doesnt really look natural as well, but once its grown in it looks pretty good And since its removable, there is the possibility to do as many iterations as necessary. Also you could practice by making individual rocks or planters for different vivs rather than a whole background

The only thing thats maybe a drawback about a removable background is getting it tight enough so the animal cant get behind it

@@baum8981 yeah mate for sure, I’m hoping to start another project in the next week or two, so we’ll see what I can come up with then 😂 I’ve got some ideas! And yeah that was the problem with this one, it was far too tight, it was an absolute nightmare to get in 😂 as you’ll see in part 2 👀
