You can rent a transit, or you can simply put a level on a 2x4 and work it out level that way. The compactor can be rented from Home Depot.

If you kneel on a scrap piece of plywood while setting the stone's it prevents your shoes and knees from messing up the sand and gravel mixture you spent so much time leveling.

they didn't explain right from the beginning. Would have been nice to a list of material was needed. I took a screenshot of the plan. That's when I realized different size pavers are needed.

ok , her are my issues .I hope to hear back from you soon . A fire pit needs to be rather large in order to clean it properly , a fire pit should also pull outside air into the bottom of it so the smoke goes straight up and not into the attendee's faces ! I'm seeing a tiny fire pit here that will have to be clean out often with a concrete wall shovel as their is no room . This fire pit has NO draft to pull from below therefore, it pulls from above the top brick stone . Smoking everyone out ! If a masonry pipe was added to the bottom of the fire pit along the brick structure it would breathe and the smoke from the fire would rise straight up . Otherwise , you guys rock it out Always !

paully069 yeah, I could see maybe using a concrete drill to drill a number of holes to allow air flow. although it's tough to say if that'd weaken the blocks

paully069 - Don't forget there's no fire pit ring. Unless those paver blocks are heat rated, they will inevitably crack after a dozen or so uses. Those pavers do not like high heat cycles like that.

I own a Lawncare and Landscaping business. I want to warn anybody that is thinking of following the example of this video. DO NOT LAY STONE ON UNPRESSED BASE. Give it 3 years. The stones will separate, it will be unlevel. You have got to compact your base. I can't believe they didn't do that. That's very very very basic 101 landscaping

Is it better to set pavers on concrete? I just got two estimates and these guys seem to be cutting corners. Dig a few inches, compact ground, add gravel then sand and finally add the paver. They won't even use machine to compact paver.

Do you mean a concrete slab? It is possible to do over existing concrete, but aggregate needs to be added on top of it to set pavers in. I def. would not pour a concrete slab for a paver foundation.

Some people do to provide a flat base but it's counterproductive. If you live in a cold climate the water has nowhere to go because of the slab and that will cause the pavers to heave. We only pour slabs for seat walls. Everything else is stone to provide drainage. It takes more time and is harder but it's worth it

+Jose Lopez If you think you can tackle this, do it yourself. Seriously this is an easy d.i.y. project and you will save a fortune. Buy the pavers kit,sand,gravel and hire the large tools you need( Hiring equipment is not as expensive as you might think)

the soil during winter and summer is going to heat up and contract. Over time the stone is going to sink into the soil around it. The best thing to avoid that is actually dig the circle about 2 feet, pile in some boulders, then add the aggregate on top. That way when or if it does sink, its going to sink maybe an inch but it will be a uniform sink. how they did it, it wont get that unlevel, they locked in, used a gradient, used aggregate and vibrated it into the ground so its compact

The floor of the patio is set practically at ground level. Maybe slightly lower. Sustained use of the patio, along with environmental factors, can deform, shift, or break the patio over time. Had they dug the area deeper and set a foundation for it, this could be avoided.

Hopefully you understand that when he shows you the bucket with the stone and sand (the base layer you believe he left out) that it's exactly what is under all patios. And they never said how deep it's excavated. looks to me like 4 inches...also above the grade of the lawn. This is all textbook work. We must have not watched the same video. This is my profession.

Is the idea of a "fire pit" to ensure the earth experiences global warming as quick as possible...?....How disrespectful to this planet our children and our grandchildren......neighbours......how much of the atmosphere do we want to pollute?.Please protect the planet ....leave the "fire pit" unlit put herbs or flowers in it.
