Beautifully clear instructional video with great photography and captions. Canoe is gorgeous and after all that craftsmanship, looks almost edible!

We think so too - thankyou!. Please keep the boat away from termites and beavers!

I have plans for my brother and I to build the Oz Goose so we can re-learn how to sail. My goal is to eventually build a small sailboat I can take on some overnight intracoastal adventures in South Florida and the Keys. The viola looks perfect for this, my only question is whether it would be possible for a 6ft tall person to sleep on board if a tent camp site is not available? What is the distance from the back of the centerboard to the stern? I am imagining a some EVA foam pieces on the floor to account for the bracer height (and water in the boat) with an inflatable air pad on to place on top of the foam. I am a lightweight hiker who sleeps comfortably in hammocks and small tents. The boat would be anchored overnight in sheltered canals, sandbars, etc.

2.1 metres or 7ft.

Since you are already building the Goose...there is a supplement to make the “Explorer” version. duckworks.com/goose-explorer-plans/

Looks amazing! Can you share some advice to make the boom like in the video, please?

There are guides here. You want the guide for the bermudan squaretop rigs www.storerboatplans.com/boatplans/viola-sailing-canoe-plan-cartop-sailing-dinghy/rigging-details-for-the-viola-14-sailing-canoe/

Looks like a reasonably simple build. Can you please tell me is it 4mm ply or 6mm ply? And how many sheets are required?
@MikStorer
@MikStorer 2 года назад
My previous comment was wrong "The bottom MUST be 6mm. The rest is Ok in 4mm or 6mm." This should read - the Viola is from 4 sheets of 4mm plywood. I got my videos mixed up.

@@MikStoreris there a change to what you specify at your site, that 4 sheets of 4mm quality plywood required?

@@gregory1778 Sorry Gregory, I lost track of which video the conversation is about. You are correct. The Viola 14 sailing canoe is from 4 sheets of 4mm plywood.

The Viola's swing rudder could be adapted to the OzGoose? If yes, what should be modified in the building instructions for the OzGoose? Is there an annex?
@MikStorer
@MikStorer 2 года назад
The ONLY advantage of the swinging rudder is when the stern is so narrow you cannot get back. The dagger but kick back of the Oz Goose rudder is a much better choice.

In the final pics, it looks like you had an aluminum boom ... did the wood boom shown during the build not work out? Great video !

There are a couple of options. It depends on which option the builder wants to choose.

Any idea what kind of speeds have been seen on a viola?
@MikStorer
@MikStorer 2 года назад
No idea of peak speeds. But whatever a laser or Aero can do ... the Viola will be able to pretty well match. One viola has been racing regularly against 5 x aeros and 5 x Lasers and doing very well in medium to strong winds. That is the lug rig version. Doesn't point as high in light wind. But often gets to the top mark first as the wind gets over 12+ knots. It is written up here - www.storerboatplans.com/plan/viola-14-sailing-canoe/racing-lug-rigged-viola-canoe-vs-lasers/
