Time to put a lot of my scraps to good use. Trying to clear out some of the clutter by using up some off cuts. I saw Tamar @3x3 Custom make a box with scraps and I wanted to give it a try. I really like the variety.
Nice work!! I like seeing all the steps. I watch another video where a guy said he never wipes the squeeze out. Just let it dry and take a chisel and it basically snaps off. So doesn’t wipe into the wood. I tried and worked pretty good.
Sound and vision not synchronised , very disconcerting . Otherwise nice project but I usually use my scraps as kindling for my wood heater , what now ?
Interesting project and looks like a great way to use scrap piece of wood laying around the shop. I do have a question/comment about the top and bottom of your boxes. I was taught in shop class many years ago that when installing a top or bottom of a box into a dado that they should not not be glued into the dado but rather allowed to float in the dado to allow for expansion and contraction of the wood because the grain is going in different directions. Have a nice day and better tomorrow.
Thanks. It is very possible that it might move or crack. Only time will tell. I generally use plywood for those since the movement is minimal, but wanted to try something different. I have plenty more scraps if I need to do it again.
I first saw Steve from Woodworking for Mere Mortals do it. The last side, if cut all the way through, has a tendency to move or pinch on the blade causing some unwanted damage that has to be repaired and then the top and bottom may not line up very well. I have also seen people tape a wedge in the kerf to prevent movement. However, after seeing the technique of not cutting all the way through, I decided to adopt it.
I use it as my respirator. I have tried others, but since I wear glasses, they always fog up. This was the best solution to keep the dust out of my lungs and eyes.
