From the start, Ryan was very helpful and is continuing to be helpful about his ru-vid.comUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans . Also, they have answered all the questions I have asked & I got outstanding support from his My Shed Plans full package.
I'm a shed builder ,carpenter too. As a contractor it's good to see how others do it. And I think it was well explained for someone as a novice too . very comprehensive . Thanks, in California
I'm 71 years old grandma. My grandson is 17 years old. My grandson is my handyman around the house. This would be a good project for my grandson to keep him busy. Thanks for showing this shed.
Watching your video helps me understand my grandfather's appreciation for woodwork. He was an accountant during his working years and a furniture maker to fulfill his other...perhaps his true passion. I remember a few instances when he agreed to babysit and I had the amazing opportunity to go to his place of work and sit in his office. Conveniently he used to work in the accounting department for a wood warehouse. Talk about leaving the dream life. I grew up watching neighbors coming to the house picking up beautiful pieces of furniture he would make in his spare time. I was the only grandchild to have to patience to watch and I'm so thankful I did. I wish he would have stayed in the US when he came to visit, I would have been able to build interesting pieces following his infinite knowledge and passion for this amazing form of art-work. Thanks for sharing... I need to build a shed.
Incredibly comprehensive and well done. Much more than a shed build, this is a mini house build, a pro class on the components of how a modern home is built. Super fun, I'd love to do this project with my nephews to demonstrate fundamental home building and the principles behind it. Classic, old school, DIY hammer in hand- 2x4 building. Thank you for this great video, you really did a great and thorough job. Excellent choice in having someone assist you with this build, work smarter, not harder. Cheers!
I think you guys did an awesome job explaining the build. WOW !!! the time and effort it takes to make this kind of video ~is far beyond what most people would ever attempt. The criticism I’ve read is garbage. Too many idiots in the world. Filming this type of instructional video and explaining the process intelligently - that’s Genius in my opinion. Thank you for posting this video. 👍👍👍👍👍
I've been a general contractor for some time and love how you've explained in detail how to make a shed here. Great job both in educating and your video presentation! subscribed and liked.
As a GC, you really shouldn’t be putting wood directly on top of concrete blocks as it’s a moisture issue. Even pressure treated wood shouldn’t rest directly on top of concrete without draft stop/sill sealer or a moisture barrier. Secondly, the wood on the blocks was unsecured. You also should have dug to lay foundation pier concrete, not resting an entire shed on an unstable foundation of unsecured blocks and unsecured wood on top of that. Any licensed contractor would do it the right way. This way was ok I guess for DIY, but a professional should know better
@@charlesgravespainting750 For fuck sake it's a backyard DIY shed. We get it, you know everything, this isn't a commercial structure or a residence. Fuck off.
You most certainly can build this (and any) shed by yourself. A helper simplifies the video and takes less time for the demonstration. I like the idea of laying out the wall framing on the floor first. This saves a LOT of time!
Very good tricks of the trade. No short cuts here. Worked my through college as a roofer and carpenters helper. Good tricks that I didn’t know. Good Job
Being feom new England myself I just love new England builders never a shortcut with them. This guy's reminds me of that and that we should all be craftsmen not just carpenters
I like the way you two put that shed together, and I would love to build a shed similar to that one to put my mowers, and some other equipment in. I already have one I purchased, and love it, but would love to build one myself to say that I did it. Thanks for sharing the information on how it was done.
@How to Build a Shed, I think the both of you did an exceptional job building this shed. This video was very detailed and educational. Because of the knowledge you shared and vivid instructions I feel confident that I can build this, along with a helping hand, in my own backyard. Thank you.
Hey mate! Don't worry about all the crap about using two people. Your offering is incredibly well done and comprehensive. It is a highly instructional video that achieves what you set out to do, 'Help people to build a quality shed'. Those having a crack at you should just go and buy a cheap and nasty metal kit shed.
Great video, shows step by step how to build a weatherproof shed using a couple of 2 x 4's some paneling, nails, and a couple of bricks!! People can use this video to build their own Tiny house or shed and tell the banks uppa yours!!!
Nice shed sir! I built my last one about 20+ years ago. I wanted it to last, so I built it like a barn! I put two Home Depot steel entry doors that open like yours. I had two windows..but..they were fake windows. So no one could actually see it. It was two stories high, so I put a fan light on each level. Great lighting, and a cool breeze all the time.😁 The base was 2×10's, with 3/4" marine Grade plywood..it was really wet there. I used pressure treated lumber for the base, and good 2×4's and 2×6's for the rest..all 16" on center. It had a monster of a roof angle too..nothing could sit on it! Including me.😁 It was a bear to shingle..but in 20+ years it never went out of square, never leaned, and never a single drop of water ever got in! It needs a new roof now..but I don't own it anymore..:so not my problem! I sided the whole thing to match the house..it was a great shed. 14x18 feet..twenty two feet to the peek! Plenty of room to store all my good wood upstairs, and wood tools and lawn equipment on the first floor. I had a 2&1/2 cat garage too..but it was always full of vehicles...and tools.👌 Thanks again for the video..it brought back some good memories. I did buy a new 5hp compressor, and to three nail guns too. A roofing gun, frame nailer, and a Brad nailer for little things. It was just my wife helping me..so the faster I could get a nail in ANYTHING was better!! But she was a huge help!
"Almost like we knew what we were doing". My dad use to say that. 😁 He also used to tell people "This is my first *insert job here* time doing this". Then smile. He made it look easy like you. The better the pro the easier it looks. I had this carpet layer come out with maybe 30 years experience. He barely measured, mumbled more to the carpet than anything and had the relaxed easy walk of a gunslinger. After the job he only had miniscule part of the carpet left. Talk about a walking computer. You can judge a carpenter by the amount of waste left over in a job.
I love the way you just say thankyou to everyone who leaves a negative comment!, sooo many people are complaining the title is wrong and not complimenting the awesome instruction in the video, this project could be done alone, it would just take a lot longer and present a couple of problems that could be worked out, just because there is two of them in the vid,a majority of the time you are only watching ONE person nailing, sawing and generally building the project, the only time two are really needed here is when they are lifting large heavy stuff, that can be overcome with a little planning or ingenuity so stop fucking complaining and start fucking complimenting! thanks for posting, subscribed. Dan U.K.
Great video. I’ve learned a bunch from it. I am new to shed building and there is so much good information I had to watch it a few times. Lots of weird and useless comments about the video but the 5 million+ views says a lot. I’m sure many are from repeat viewings as there information is excellent and all not easily digested in one viewing. I second all the positive comments. Thank you for the time to make it.
Long but very comprehensive video showing many solid building techniques. I like the part (59:38) where the helper guy quotes the soup Nazi and says "no soup for you, you want bread, you pay for bread!" Cracked me up because everything was very serious business.
Really enjoyed this video. What an amazing shed! I'd say it was more of a summer house than a shed, I'd be hiding in there all the time. The video ended very abruptly. I was hoping for a look at the finished project from the inside. Thank you for this. I'm not sure if it's something a regular DIY person could do alone though, they'd also need a "helper" like yours ha ha.
If you build it, they will come .. and heavily criticize you. You guys did a great job on a video that will get people with modest to decent framing and carpentry skills to build a much better shed -- yes, ideally with a helper -- than they could ever imagine doing by just pulling up some plans -- or buying an overpriced and frustrating shed kit. When I build my next shed, I won't do all the wonderful finish work you all did, but I will consult your great video. I especially appreciate the fact that you showed multiple ways to do so many things (e.g., four very different kinds of siding). Thank you!!!
Wow can’t believe the negativity this bloke just shown me how to go about something the write way and people be bagging this guy I think you guys should appreciate good workmanship as this guy makes it looks easy it’s actually hard doing what he is doing while explaining at the same time any good job buddy I have build my daughter a cubby house using this method 4 year ago still getting compliments and solid as a rock love it to bits
I'm going to show you exactly how to start building wooden sheds and woodwork projects easily, so that you're fully up and running, creating remarkable outdoor garden sheds and woodwork projects for your loved ones within days from now. Click here ==> *WoodBlueprints. Com* >>>
for the walls and ceiling I used steel 2x4s... went together nicely... and no nails anywhere in it... I hate to hammer (nails that bend, and thumbs that get smashed)... screws just seem to go in faster with less fuss.
NME...No More Excuses. The race doesn't always go, to the stronger or faster man. But sooner or later the man who wins, is the one who thinks he can. This man deserves a standing ovation 😇😇😇😎😎😎👍👍👍👏👏👏
I don't ever give undeserved compliments. This build allows those who might not understand a framing square an excellent method of building a square building and them using that square floor to template the rafters/ trusses. The only error I saw was the starter course of shingles not being cut back. I also always cover my entire eave starter with waterproof tape. Just excellent overall for all skill levels wanting to build a quality shed.
Build me a new shed after Hurricane Katrina. I decided to go a little bigger than what I had. Ended up going do a 12 by 16 structure with 16 inch center walls and rafters. All in all there is 1600 running feet of 2x4's for the floor, walls, ceiling joist and rafters. 57 sheets of half inch plywood. This sits on 3 - 10x10 sills 17 feet long which in turn rest on cinder blocks. Three rolls each sill, two blocks high. Recently added a 12x8 barn style addition with commercial grade tin on the sides and roof to one side to store my 12,500 watt generator. Zero turn, ice chest and trawls for my boat. Done this with a crippled leg. That is a nice shed and built well but 2 foot center isn't beefy enough for me.
By yourself I think he meant without hiring a company. More or less this is how to. Cut the guy some slack for the title, this is very good work and you can learn so much.
Nice job..Always trying to find subcontractors/helpers with common sense and are very efficient like you guys.. seems to be lacking with some of these younger guys today. and "get off your god dam phone" is what I keep say all day LOL!
Really good video with some good idas for building your own shed. Not sure about the comments complaining about "build a shed by yourself"? I understood it as "build it yourself" (as oppsed to having someone else do it) and not "build it on your own"!
opkcts exactly, but your talking to the same people who have to look on RU-vid how to do things - so they're not gonna do anything , by themselves anyway.
"Build it BY YOURSELF" is a completely different concept than "Build IT YOURSELF". By yourself means you are alone - don't even have a dog or girlfriend to help. What would you think if someone said "I was home dancing by myself"???
Nail guns are fast but weak installations. Go check out the gauges of those brad nails to the selections of real old fashion nails and you will find out why. Some folks preferred screws with the use of cordless drill drivers or impact guns. The biggest mistake on this shed was it is not mechanically anchored or tied down to the ground to prevent high winds shifting and frost movements in colder climates areas. They relies on the pure weight of the shred and its contents. Soon after they will discover this huge mistake. Never under estimate the strength of Mother Nature.
I believe the "yourself" is talking about you and your friends vs a construction company. Building a shed with your friends might have been a better title. ;-) Nice building!
i built a 22X18 shed for my 10X5 snooker table and attached it to my home. i am not a carpenter but it is basic math with a little algebra. it had to be totally level for a large pool table. a little shed is a piece of cake
If people could use their brains a bit, the video is meant to instruct how to build a shed from start to finish so you can get an idea to do it yourself. He only has help to make the video and the process quicker

Indeed, very grateful to see, hear and acquire the knowledge with a caution, care and accurate measures noted about how to build a backyard shed by myself after demolished the big decimal tree, then I hope it be correctly done now! Sule Shangodoyin.
After building a few structures I learned to build a floor with the floor joists 12" on center, instead of 16". In the long run, the cost is negligible for the added strength it gives you.
For all those complaining...The title should say how to have a professional build a shed...obviously you need a hand to help...to lift the walls at bare minimum. These RU-vid's commenters are freaking trolls...I'd like to see one of these kids build anything of this quality...if they worked for me they'd be fired day one. No experience, no work ethic, and no common sense. Awesome video.
I just built, really buy myself...LOL my 8 x 14 ft shed and it cost right around $1,063.50 give or take a few nails, screws bought which by the way add up fast. I did not go to the extent like the video of windows, bought door and trim work. One double door like the in video and my trim work was way simpler than there's and my siding was just 4x8 OSB smart siding. My shed is built WAY better than the HD/Lowes package sheds.
Nice Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your opinion. Have you heard about - Mahorrla Wooden Paradise Method (probably on Google)? It is a smashing exclusive product for building better sheds and woodworking minus the headache. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor got cool success with it.
Cheers for the Video clip! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you considered - Mahorrla Wooden Paradise Method (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great one of a kind guide for building better sheds and woodworking without the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
