Build your own dresser! This video is a step by step set of video plans that will walk you through building a really simple dresser that is 48.5” tall, 28” wide, and 15.5” deep. This is a really easy dresser to build, and you only need simple tools to build it. A chest of drawers can sometimes be a daunting woodworking project to take on, but this one is very simple to follow and easy to build.

I know this is an old video but I really appreciate the detailed step-by-step process; I'm just getting started making my own stuff and it really helps to see the drawers, especially. Really like the simple style and the sturdiness. It's easy to add your own touches to it, but the basic design is classic and will withstand daily living. Nothing in my house gets babied except actual babies and animals. BTW, put some safety gear on, you have a lot to offer and we want you around. Thanks for the great tutorial!

Nail gun nails have a wedge on the end. They will deflect to the right or left but not front or back. At 10:58 if you hold it 90 degrees to the bottom of the drawer, you wont get the deflection you got. It's easier to avoid than fix.

Could say to the nearest $50 how much the lumber for this project cost you? I want to build my own dresser but I'm worried it might just be cheaper to buy one
@DIYMAN
@DIYMAN 2 года назад
The hardware is the most expensive part. Everything here should be less than $200 if you order the drawer slides online instead of going to Lowes or HD for them

You will find its more expensive to build your own just due to the cost of Lumber. BUT its far more satisfying to do it yourself and it will last far longer than the composite junk you get from most places. Just my 2 cents!
@jellyg.8961
@jellyg.8961 2 года назад
Here, where everything has gotten extremely expensive, you will spend near $200 in lumber using cheap plywood and non-treated pine wood slats. However the local home depot always have cull wood in the back of the wood area with a 70% discount, so that could save a lot. With the hardware it will cost more than a store bought chest drawer but the quality and durability will be a hundred times more. That garbage from IKEA, walmart, rooms to go and others don't survive a lot.

They come with small screws. I’m not sure if they make a 13” drawer slide. You’ll probably need a 12” if they dont

Super informative video man. Big help for a guy trying to do the exact same thing. I'll need a table saw set into a big table like you'be got and chop saw and I'll be watching this again when it's time to build. I'll modify the dims though. So all sims are based on those under mount slides right? As they are a fixed depth?
@riflebear1711
@riflebear1711 2 года назад
Also where did you buy the sliders?
@DIYMAN
@DIYMAN 2 года назад
Thank you! They way I designed this dresser, you could easily use side mounted drawer slides from lowes or Home Depot as long as you use 3/4” plywood on the left and right side. You would need to attach a 2x2 or a 2x4 between the top two drawers to mount the top drawer slides though. The rest of the measurements should work out perfectly for slide mounts if you want to do that. I bought the under mount drawer slides as a set at a garage sale, but if you want to use those, I found a link to a very similar set on Amazon that should work just fine. That’s in the description of you want to check that out. Good luck on your build!

I’ve noticed in most of your videos that you use a 1/4 sheet orbital sander. Is there a big difference in that sander compared to a random orbital sander? Or is it a matter of preference?
@DIYMAN
@DIYMAN 3 года назад
I have both and I’ve never noticed a big difference in the two. The random orbital sander might remove wood a little more quickly, but not much. It is really convenient to change the sandpaper, but also more expensive. That’s mainly why I use the 1/4 sheet sander, because it’s so much cheaper

Great video but I had to find out the hard way about your materials list is NOT CORRECT, you might want to CORRECT that one, you need a total of 2 1x10x8s one will only do 2 small drawer faces and 2 big drawer faces still need 2 more
