A good trick for coping pipe (if you have a metal chopsaw) is to set the miter fence to 32.5 degrees +/- a degree (if the pipe are the same diameter, however the degree will change slightly for pipes with different diameters). Take a cut, then rotate the pipe exactly 180 degrees and cut again. Then just kiss the inside of the ears (of the cope) with a flap disc real quick. You’ll get a near perfect cope in only a minute or two, and the angle of the cut will actually bevel the pipe for you so you not only get good penetration but also a low profile weld. You can make the same cuts with a cut off wheel but a chop saw is much faster and more consistent
I don't know much about welding, and I'm looking into buying a welder solely to make a skate rail. I'm curious if the "Easy-Flux 125 Amp Welder" I just came across for $214.00 is powerful enough to get this job done? Says it's 125 amps, it's one of the cheapest I've come across.
Hey Greysen, It would just depend on the material being used and if the welder you get would be sufficient to weld that material. If it’s lighter gauge material you should be totally fine!
I would get the price of steel in your area and figure out that your time is worth (per hour for example) and all the supplies needed and just add that together to start.
20 minutes to weld 5 pieces and you didnt explain 1 thing about welding. More information about the metal than anything else. Should just be a FAB video.
Considering that welding is mostly prep/grinding, I think he explained it pretty well. The title of the video is “how to BUILD a skate rail” and that’s exactly what he did. If the title would have been “let me teach you how to weld these pipes and shit” I could understand why you would be mad.
