now that I've been shown a technique to make staggered claptons without wasting a bunch of wire I'm going to attempt this with 26g kanthal and 36g kanthal. (once my order of 36g comes in) Thanks for the build video!
Finally i built this sick wire, 5 wraps dual coil. 26 gauge as core, 34 gauge as clapton. this build gives so deep flavour, i have to try all my DYI juice recipies again, since i am sure i missed a lot of flavour when testing them :D
I know this video has been out for a while but it's not been to long since I mastered fused clapton and twisted core claptons. Was doing research on the SFC before I tried to make and this video came up first and I honestly don't think I need to watch anything else. You did a fantastic build tutorial, thank you!!
I've watched a bunch of build tutorials and this is by far the best yet I fully understood what your saying and the build shots are perfect I'm going to attempt this build and parallel it aswell I truly miss your channel it was one the first I watched hope your doing ok with whatever you are doing now and I hope you see this comment 👍 😀 ❤
Josh definitely a thing of beauty watching you brings a whole new appreciation to the intricacy that's what goes in to making those coils thank you so much I'm always in awe of your talent someday I hope to be able to have a set of coils that you make thank you so much for your time
+Jax Miller thank you, man! kind words. I think that fiskars is going allow me to really break it down on another level for you guys. it's going to be cool
Thanks man! Just made an 8 wrap with SS 1st time because of your tutorial! Found it easier than an alien because you can rewind and save the build if needed
Just did this with 26/32 only wire i have on hand ,ramp up yeah ,flavor hell yeah gonna get some 28 and 38 gauge this weekend and have some fun thanks for the tut
Love the build tutorials. I heard you say on Project For you did not like the GoPro camera angle on the drill, I thought it was a good shot and looked good. Also love how you throw out all the tips and tricks to make it easier for someone just starting out building coils. Keep up the awesome videos.......
+KennyB maybe i'll try the drill cam again at some point... i like the idea of it... just didn't think it came out as sharp as i wanted it to... maybe i'll give it another shot. thanks man!
I lol'd when you talked about eyes crossing I can totally identify. Half way through my aliens I lose focus and trust in the builder gods to guide me. I love your tutorials. Thanks a bunch!
bout to order the mason 40mm cant wait to get it. gonna try that staggered as soon as i get it thx for the tip on how to make that space on the clapton so easily!
This was the best video I ever saw on coil building. First, your an fantastic teacher, so reassuring and positive. That Mason RDA is badass. The glow shots were amazing. With that said, I doubt I'll ever take the time to build this. Well, I shake too much anyway but now makers like UD are selling "exotics" at a reasonable price. I'm sure it's more satisfying to make your own but I just cant do it. I also like the color and art in that room. Really great video I think I'll watch more.
josh, that is a beautiful build dude. great job man. i think you inspired me to rebuild my BFT. it currently has a 26/36 fused clapton with a 24 ga. stage heating wire.. thanks for this built vid. love it. i like this technique
Those are some beautiful coils bro. I have finally mastered the alien coil and think I will move on to this one next. Love the little tips and the awesome green screen you use, definitely sets you apart from the others. Keep vaping on, man! ;)
+OhmBoy Josh bought the fiskers drill and it definitely helps, although it's so tricky/hard to see I think I might need to invest in the magnifying headset lol. It's a fun one though. Thanks for all the tips! 🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻
these are my favorite coils to vape on, I like making them too, I made one last night with three different size wire, first I claptoned 28g with 30g, then fused them together with 34g, such a good vape, I need a macro lens from my phone so I can start shaping pictures.
+OhmBoy Josh Made a micro staggered clapton this evening, 30g cores wrapped with 34g (all 316L), no magnifying glass...5 wraps around a 2mm spaced and then put in a 25mm VCMT to run in TC...I really need a micro lens!
awesome coil!!!! just made one myself and i can highly recomment using a hand drill. tastes very good and does nice clouds even with a single coil setup. have a goood vape!
Staggered fused claptons were always pretty easy for me, but it took me forever to get an alien clapton down. I always did my staggered fused claptons freehand and without swivels but i always used the loop method because i dont want to waste all that wire haha. I even made a 32gx2 core wires staggered with 36g freehand, an 8 wrap came out to 1.5 or 1.8 ohms, somewhere around there... I could never get more than an inch of an alien clapton good freehand tho, but I finally got some swivels and now they are just as easy as a normal clapton for me. But this is a very informational video man!
that was an amazing and thorough build Josh, your coils looked just as bad ass as the squidoode ones you just reviewed and those sell 30$ a pair! you have a gift man I build alot and you just made something that's not easy whatsoever look like a breeze. keep it up man I love your channel
Y'know... If your lazy and dont mind a less than perfect build, what you can also do is clapton half the length of wire, loosen it, and just pull it to the end. It wont come out perfect (there will be a few spacing issues) but you should be able to happily get 6 or 7 clean wraps with the same length of wire shown. I usually make giant wires so I dont have to do it twice, and that contributes to the extra slop and waste but still, it's an amazing vape. It's also nice to see some one else using large atty's. I use the 30mm Mason Gemini myself, the 40mm was just too much of a monster for my needs. Bigger builds = more vapor and flavor, but also massively increases the juice consumption too.
First time I've seen your channel. I love the format with the mini me, excellent well done informative video. Thanks for your effort. I learned some new techniques and I can't wait to try them out.
+Daryl Lotecka that's awesome man! thanks for checking out the channel. if you like this style, i've got a whole playlist of videos where i feature the gremlin on the channel page
Awesome build man, your build videos are amazing. You're always so calm if you make a slight mistake, it makes it look easy hahah. Thanks for all the tips!
+Adaclysm well gotta keep calm really... getting upset, freaking out, worrying... just makes it worse... it's like quicksand, if you struggle you just sink faster... plus I fuck up a lot lol so I'm used to it
Great tips on this build, I have an old (I MEAN REALLY OLD) maybe 60/70 years old hand crank/drill that still works very well. Like you, I never wanted to use a powered drill to make this coil but I'm going to try it now, hell I forgot I even had that old tool (what's old is new again). Oh yeah I don't know how safe or unsafe it is but you had a 11/12 coil wrap and a 10/11 coil wrap on the opposite side. Have A Great and SAFE Vape!!
+Johnny2419 yeah! I bet that'll do the trick for sure! Now... I went back and counted my wraps... twice. And they're both 11/10... you totally made me look tho. Haha. If they were uneven tho, the worst that would happen is they wouldn't light up even. Nothing unsafe about it tho. That and it would look like shit
Sorry if I counted wrong maybe it's time for me to get a pair of those magnifying glasses like what You and Dirty wear when building. If anything else I now know I don't have to tare out a coil if I have an uneven build. lol
+Johnny2419 dude! I apologize. I was wrong. You're absolutely 100% right. One is 11/10 and the other is indeed 12/11... coil wrapping FAIL! I don't know how I ever got them to ramp up evenly. That makes zero sense. Haha. Oh well. Sorry man.
Gratuitous juicing warning!!! Lol, is it just me, makes me think of foreplay, you know that loving caress before the action......probably is.. .... Thanks for another masterful tutorial the results of which speak for themselves. The hand drill seems perfect for this. Thanks Josh for thinking outside the box and showing us an easier way to skin the cat. You have inspired me and surely many others, to attempt builds we mortals had no idea could be within our grasp. Commendable work my friend.
+OhmBoy Josh hey josh wanted to tell ya that on my stapled coils i no longer cut my ribbon wire. i just bend them over and crimp them now. alot easier to keep em all together. instead of having 6 or 20 or however many pieces of ribbon i just fold it into 6 pieces and crimp each fold with my pliers. been alot easier than trying to stack all of em together and then keep em together. figured id let ya know.
Fascinating and informative. I love learning while watching and I must say you are one of the best and easiest to learn from Josh. The terrific close ups, the eye to detail, just wonderful. Thank you, thank you very much from Melbourne Australia. p.s. just a tad overhang on that RDA me thinks :)
Another great tutorial Josh. That hand drill is awesome. Have you tried creating these yet without creating the spaced Clapton wrap? Let me know if you need the trick tip? Loving the content in your channel bro. Mad respect!!!
+Jon Damon Thanks man! Yeah i love that hand drill way too much.... but what do you mean exactly? creating a staggered fused clapton without staggering the clapton? like a fused clapton? that's not what you mean... what do you mean? i don't follow
+OhmBoy Josh take a piece of core wire, Clapton wrap just over half of it. Spin your drill in reverse to open up the wraps (like m.terk does to decore) do this twice for each core of the SFC. Then line up the 2 cores on your swivels and in the chuck. Then anchor your fuse wire and wrap as you would an Alien by leading it forward slightly. The reversing of the drill to loosen the wraps creates enough space to fuse it! Hey presto easy SFC. TRY IT OUT. Personally I Clapton in 38 and fuse in 40. @CoilBuilderJ_v.b.c
If you go to electronics sites like Maplin or Rapidonline, they have sections with educational kits for schools and stuff. For very little money, you can buy a motor in a mount, that also has enough spare cogs to gear it how you want, with plenty of spares you can use to make a rig that turns at both ends, so you don't need swivels cus both sides are turning at exactly the same RPM. You'd still need some skills to build something, but you could make a good rig very cheaply. You can even make a speed controller you operate with your foot, from an old/broken Wah pedal. As long as the pot still turns when you move the pedal. Even if the pot is broken - prolly the most common failure point of a wah pedal - you can easily get a new one for a couple bucks.Or you can forego a speed controller or make one that isn't hands free.
This video makes it pretty clear why you've become my favorite. YOU TAKE YOUR TIME It's a refreshing, informative and unique narrative style. I have zero interest in using an 11 wrap coil on a 40mm rda but I love to watch. It's vape porn!
Hey dude, I'm gonna definitely recommend some thicker cotton rolling and more wraps of round wire and less of the Clapton. The Clapton is barely heating up.
Amazing looking wire but I have to be honest I was lost after watching two minutes of your video, not because it was badly explained I have only been vaping about 5 month and only been making my own coils about a month now but that's using ready made Clapton wire I am so far away from having the skill to make such an amazing looking coil so job well done......hopefully one day I will try.ha..........
Oh man, awesome coils! Even more awesome for me, you have the same mod as me and I was trying to figure out if a Mason 40mm would work well on it, now I know. :0
Nice. But instead of stretching the core wire and loosening the wrap, you can just use a larger gauge wire to space the clapton while wrapping. So wrap with 32awg, but use a 28awg for the spacing wire. This works great for me. And you don't end up with uneven spacing,
Ive tried that way with the finger, and still do, but me not having a very steady hand, i cant cleanly space clapton for long time : only for a pair of half sfc`s/ssfc`s. Still josh has demonstrated the weight-loop method , so i will have to give it a try too (ill have to elevate the drill and the swivels for start).
i tried this but used a lower gauge for the loop (28) so when the spring contracts, the actual gap between wires is closer to the fusing clapton wire (30). very east n freehanded the whole thing, just a thought, i find the faster it spins, the more even n tight the wrap
+OhmBoy Josh I just don't know how to start reviews and Ect unless I found some where to get stuff at cheap prices any possibility you have extras I could buy?
+John2234 yeah that 40 is no joke. Someone just showed me a ginormous alien coil on a 6mm bit in this thing... so many build options you don't get with a standard 22mm rda
