How to build a star fire - a outdoors bushcraft tip for building a star fire outdoors to enhance your wilderness survival skills.
The Indian Star Fire, also known simply as the Indian Fire or Star Fire, is a traditional fire design used most notably by the Indians of the Wild West. This type of fire is fuel efficient and best suited for survival and primitive situations. This fire offers a lot of control over the consumption and management of wood and is a good option when this resource is scarce.
Fuel for this fire can be of varying lengths and thicknesses requiring little to no alteration, thusly rendering the need for cutting tools and excess expenditure of energy unnecessary. It also has a basic temperature control which is effectively, if you want it hotter, push the branches in. If you want it cooler, pull the branches out.
For the fire choose a flat surface, place the logs with the points almost touching in the center of your fire pit. In the middle of the logs build a small starter fire with enough fuel to catch the large log tips on fire.
