In this video I show you how to build a swing gate tire carrier using the stock bumper. I used a tire carrier hinge kit from EMS Offroad and 2"x2" square tube steel to build the actual carrier.
The truck in this video is a 1995 Ford F150 single cab with the 5.0.
In Part 1, I will show you how to reinforce the top of the bumper, weld the hinge, swing arm, and upright.

ITUMBLE4U Thanks man! I appreciate it! I’m just trying to solve those every day problems that plague people who own these old trucks. So the welds penetrated well. They just had a bit too much spatter for my liking. I’ve since learned I may need to dial back my wire speed to reduce the spatter.
@ITUMBLE4U

The Minute Masters I love to weld but I'm not very good at it. I bought a Millermatic 211 and it is very capable for a hobbyist/home user. My first weld was putting a cap back on a digging bar. It's been all downhill from there...LOL. I noticed your paracord and your scarf...military?
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 6 лет назад
ITUMBLE4U Same here! I picked up a welder by a company called Eastwood. I’m in military based organization called the US Naval Sea Cadet Corp. We train youth for military service, if they choose to go in. One of my videos on my channel is titled Shipboard Training. That’s a basic seamanship training evolution, I’ve typically instructed for. I’ve been in to for 14 years. I’m trying to get an officer commission in the Navy though.

The Minute Masters My brother was an Intel Officer on the John F. Kennedy during the Gulf War. I got to go on a"Tiger Cruise" on the carrier from Portsmouth to Norfolk. One of the most amazing things I've experienced was standing on the deck when they were launching and catching Tomcats. Much respect, good luck with your commission, that would be life changing, to say the least.

I was thinking about doing this, long term has it held up, any rattling off road, etc
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 5 лет назад
Bronco Adventures So the carrier had held up amazingly. However, there are a few things a wish I had added earlier on. First thing, is a lock out system. So when the carrier is in the open position, it needed a pin to hold it there. Second, I wish I had a latch system holding it closed instead of a loose pin. The pin never got knocked out of the hole no matter how bad the roads were. However, the constant rattling and up and down movement has worn the hole wider. So if you can address those two issues, your tire carrier will be much better than mine.🤙

Hello, how has the bumper held up with the extra weight? Any stress cracks?
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 3 года назад
Overall, the bumper has held up very well. One of the welds inside the bumper where the support 2x2 box steel was attached broke. However, I think I over heater the steel when I welded it.

Do you have the bearing Part number and what gauge steel did you use?
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 5 лет назад
emilio torres Like the whole hinge kit part number or the actual bearings in the hinge? I used 1/8 thick wall 2x2 square tube. I thing I could have used 1x2 tube though.
@emiliotorres2802
@emiliotorres2802 5 лет назад
I think I found the hinge kit thank you. So do you think the 1/8 was plenty strong or would you go up to 3/16 or is that overkill?
@TheMinuteMasters

emilio torres I think 1/8 is plenty. 3/16 would be too hefty.

@ItMeZumn

That Black block you have at center of the 2x2 square tubing, why not put a rubber block, similar to, so that when traveling or off roading there is way more support than when parked and not getting stressed.
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 года назад
Ricardo Jacobo Like put a rubber block under the horizontal arm to support it? That way it doesn’t move up and down.
@ItMeZumn
@ItMeZumn 4 года назад
@@TheMinuteMasters yes because I imagine anything out of the ordinary is going to cause warping or bending of that arm. Just thinking 100lb+ wheel... 🤷🏿‍♂️
@TheMinuteMasters
@TheMinuteMasters 4 года назад
Ricardo Jacobo So believe it or not it held it really well. I’ve since removed it because the holding pin was wearing a larger hold in the bumper.
