The best thing to do to prevent from the wood to sticking to the finished product is to spray diesel with a spray bottle or a 1lt sprayer that they sell at HD or Lowe’s at the gardening section, I learned this from working with concrete guys here in California doing a big ramp and using thick plywood for molds

Thank you for this unexpected reply, and to answer your question, I am a traditional archery craftsman in building custom tri-laminated longbows, with 'match-grade arrows, and arrowheads made from flint rock. My plan (before winter) is to cover fire-brick with flint rock on my outdoor bar-b-que, and pizza cooker combination. I've never attempted such a thing, so we will seee what the outcome will be. Awesome bbq mate!! Love how it's coming along. My bbq is slightly bigger and the oven slightly smaller but it reminded me a lot to of what I've just done. You might want to consider a firebox that is hanging on the side, it makes life a lot easier spreading the amber's without any legs in the way. Also working on a elevation system for the grill with an axle on the recessment if the top. This is also a handy place to smoke meat so any hanging point comes handy. Looking forward to you next episodes and awesome craftsmanship!

At 13 minutes you use plywood. A tip for anyone wanting to build thuis without worrying that it will stuck against the concrete is to use furniture panels, the laminated ones. These will fall right off

Can you put fire brick directly on the concrete blocks, without an insulation layer? Because the fire bricks absorb heat, won't that heat translate to the concrete blocks and crack them?
@ArtisanMade
@ArtisanMade 2 года назад
This is more like a fire place. Most of the heat escapes before it can travel through the firebrick and cause the concrete to reach a high temperature. A pizza oven on the other hand is built in a way that prevents heat from escaping. The fire heats the top of the dome and reflects heat down to the oven floor, causing it the reach extremely high temperatures

@Kangaroo Ninja, I never had anyone teach me this stuff as a kid, and I never took advantage of a job where I could learn a skill (I would do tough work but was usually repetitive, ie warehouse, factory, then army infantry). I started getting itch to do homeowner stuff in my late thirties early forties. With my no previous skills background, I asked a lot of questions, watched a lot of videos, and asked some more of know keep Iole around me. I think I was 45 when I started my pizza oven, finishing touches were the following summer in 2020. Looks awesome (I found a guy in

In Central NY where I live who had a pile of old maroon brick like used here for the facade of my oven. I used the brick wood oven plans (free online) as a template, and built a barrel style pizza oven. I used cinder block I had laying around, had to purchase some as well. Followed the guide of the brick wood plans and made a few mistakes along the way. I wanted to have a barrel shape for my final exterior oven look, it did not come out as I wanted in the lower levels and it turned out to be a massive rectangular brick structure. Original chimney was not drafting well so I extended with with fire brick and covered that with red brick. Made a beautiful finish to the exterior that was not originally planned. I then had to figure out how to cover the space inside between oven and brick. I filled with more cement and ordered 1.5 inch thick slabs of blue stone to make a roof. Metal chimney cap and spark arrestor gave it a nice finish. The next summer bought nice veneer stone to face the cinder block with. Point being, I built it by myself, no physical help, with no prior masonry experience. I made some mistakes but they were overcome and not deal breakers. (My cheap way to make a form for the barrel shape ended up going a bit too tall, and I needed to lower the front entry to retain more heat, fixed with fire brick and mortar). The concrete oven platform I did not tap the wood and get rid of air bubbles, so I had a rough look to that. Just little things, but nothing architecturally or functional that would not allow it to work or stand up to the elements. I had a metal door made for it and that really helped when heating it up and also to slow cooks or bake when not doing pizzas. The oven is a great center piece by our pool, and is a second fire place outside at night when guests are over. Take a chance, ask questions and go for it! Oh yeah, if you need masonry video tips, there is an older gentleman on RU-vid named Mike Haduk. Many years as a mason, lives in PA and had to build stuff to last and resist the elements. Can learn a lot there good luck!

Nice Work. Nobody cares like the owner! A pencil vibrator, specifically made for concrete makes a great finish and can reach any spot quickly and effectively. Concrete doesn’t dry, it cures and should stay wet while it does. 4000 psi in 28 days is the standard city mix. Good Job.
