You saying that this Bilstein (i believe its B14) is harsh. I just bought Bilstein B16 for my E46 330Ci but havent install it on car yet. I believe all coilovers gonna be harsh as they stiffer than regular suspension, just some are less or more harsh. I thought if you want something more on "plush" side then you go for company like Bilstein, am i gone wrong with that choice? You had some coilovers in your life like Eibach (that also was E46), BC Raicing and probably much more. How you compare that to Bilstein? Im really curious now.
James is a legend and all round top bloke. Way back in 2006 I crashed my E36 328i Sport on some ice in the car park at work in Swindon. James worked at BMW back in those days and despite barely knowing me sorted the parts to fix it, drove to Swindon after work and helped (well, didn’t 99% of it!) to get the car back on the road. He then came back again a week later to help me fix the bumper up a bit better! One of my biggest regrets about no longer owning a BMW is I can’t take my car to him. Although I have tried to convince him to get into Porsches 😄
A good mechanic is like a unicorn. After years I found a good one. I went in because my oil light was on and he looked, filled me back up and didn't charge me a penny. But he doesn't want to put a v10 in a z4, so these people I think will be my best bet.
Seems the UK is blessed with a lot of cheap BMWs. In the America, BMW means "Bring more wallet." because parts are outrageous. And we also don't seem to have miles of BMW junkyards like the UK seems to have, hence there are no sub-$1,000 BMWs, in the USA, that run. A used Porsche in the USA seems like the way to go for a fun European sports car. Yeah, parts are expensive. But, I know a few guys who daily drive 996s and 997s and all they ever do is put gas in it and change the oil. Everyone I know with a BMW loves the car, but hates the repair bills.
@@minxlabradae46 isn't that expensive to fix I'm in North America too and never had problems finding anything I needed for mine and mine is a zhp. So don't share some of the same parts as a regular e46. You are right that we don't have the junkyards full of them like in Europe but we do have some. I agree that the newer cars are more expensive for parts but if you can do your own work it isn't that bad. I have a f30, e60, e70, g80 as well. So I'm speaking from experience..... my experience.
@@minxlabradaparts are cheaper here because theres a whole boy racer culture surrounding these type of performance bmw so a lot of m sport cars are crashed and sold for parts
Absolutely, handmade parts by experts for $500 dollars is a great deal. Sure you can have someone mock them up at the local machine shop for less but they don't have any idea where to begin. Always consult the guys with experience.
@@robfodder5575 The plates are unnecessary in the first place, if a vehicle needs strengthening in order to do a successful engine swap you buy a sheet and weld it up accordingly. The price of the kits they are selling is reasonable I agree but you’ll still be paying for something that isn’t really needed. I’ve done several m swaps without needing plates. I’ve also done e36 m3 with rb25det and still never needed plates only necessary mounting brackets etc… and as for you saying an m car isn’t for me… erm the car he’s working on isn’t an m car 😂 the only thing that is “m” is the engine which isn’t even in the car yet
i love swap builds like this. my daily is a swap of this sort, a standard 2.0 mk3 golf 5 door, i fully swapped to vr6, including all wiring, interior, lighting, full front and rear chassis (has 5 lug hubs and huge brakes). it was a model that was never available in the US, basically a Golf GLX (since it's not a GTI)
You could do it yourself in a day and actually experience it first hand. RU-vid annoys me becuse the creators make out it's "such a big job" when in reality it's about 3 hours work to swap an engine and all the other stuff especcilay in this video is pointless rubbish just to create another video and make them out to be really good. When really all you need is 2 cars or 1 good one and an engine and that's it! none of this other crap. Just drop the engine and send it. Calls himself a car guy and then fannys about 😆
Well... I now have to go and check the underside of my E46 again thanks to renewed paranoia after seeing barney on the lift there. It's a 2000 318i with about 150 000km. It's very clean and original and I'm trying real hard to keep it in top shape. It still has the original factory fitted boot lid gas struts and they still work. Even the factory cassette player still works. And yes, I actually have some cassettes...
I wondered why the name was so familar, Redish Motorsport, have their own youtube channel of the work they do, it's quite a sight to see the end results of their customers cars looking so clean on the underside.
Love the build , I have a 330d that needs love and attention and these episodes give me SUCH BRILLIANT IDEAS. Keep at it Alex, you are educating the world!
I use Redish for my f82 and they're a bunch of legends. The highest quality work. If you have an m car and are in the SW you should be using them. This should be a great build.
There's just something so satisfying about listening to a guy that knows his stuff and does top quality work on a car, proper job through and through, this is going to be epic when it's complete 🤟
As a mechanic I love seeing the timlapses of the work done. Unfortunately, not a lot of shows allow that to be shown 💯💯💯 defo makes people understand the hard work that goes into it
YES!!!! FINALLY!!! IVE BEEN WAITING TO SEE THIS CRAZY THING TAKE SHAPE!! Love you Alex and will always dream of visiting the UK, Europe in whole, Australia later, even Japan.
Im getting really good at skipping car vertical plugs at this point. I know just the right number of double taps on the screen to skip the whole thing as quickly as possible! 👍
We had a black z4 m coupe for a while, it was fun while it worked XD the previous owner had the engine fail on him (due to poor maintenance and lack of knowledge of what such a car requires as attention...) and had the crankshaft "replaced" cheaply meaning that the shop just tried to rebalance it XD after doing a full rebuild we swapped it for a 1100whp Audi S2 which we broke 5 gearboxes with before selling it. Currently working on an E34 M5 which is receiving a m30b35 engine with a turbo pushing about 650hp at low boost, then a e21 with a m50b25 turbo engine around 700hp and a e30 m3 which has been kept N/A for the time being at around 400hp but might end up swapping to a s38b38 depending on how the other projects go :D
So correct me if I'm wrong but the wheels probably need to go... before they are just laying around I would be very happy to stick them on my 330d Special Edition Sport here in Germany 😂 Jokes aside... I can't wait to see the finished project and will follow the process!
I was ready🍹But an entire episode without a "happy days"... I need to invent a new Friday night drinking game😂 Can't wait to see the finished Barney!!!
The segment in the "Boot" just needed an "Im soo scared right now quote"and it would have been a great Blair Witch Project reference. You should call this the Barney Switch Project!
Not an Instauser so can't enter but definately will think about one of those kits when I can eventually pull the Old Girl out of storage, keep meaning to stockpile the gubbins for manual conversion too for the day when I have to ditch the SMG to keep her living.
Amazing build Alex, great to see you promoting the community of highly skilled experts too…an e46 m3 touring in technoviolet with oem+ upgrades sir?!…you’ll be as happy as a dog with two d**ks when this is finished! ❤️
