WOW! I am overwhelmed. It went so fast, I had to keep stopping - almost every frame part of the time to take in all the detail. I have watched many earthship builds, but this is the best. So many smart ideas. Backfilling the wall as it goes up, vent tubes in every room, nicely done trim work with cans & bottles, thermal barrier - this is a major improvement over the first generation earthships & Mike himself making sure every detail was right. Mike, I have an acre of land in Missouri. Can you bring your guys & build the same one for me? FANTASTIC!!!

I live in Missouri and I would love to see what this earthship would look like here.

I apologize for the speed of some of the slides in some of my videos. Sometimes I have to throw one together quickly before heading to another project. I do not yet have a team of builders I can send, so I recommend contacting the Earthship Academy for one of their teams.

I don't know why this has so few views. No commentary / no music / no distractions, just like I like it. Reynolds looks like a younger man in this video. I don't see the publish date anywhere, is this an older video?
@AustinBuntonDesign
@AustinBuntonDesign 3 года назад
Thank you. Yes, I'm not sure how old it is. Just wanted to post what I had as soon as I could. This went on my channel during one of those rare moments when I had a chance to upload a few more. Reynolds has been at this for decades now, so it could have come from a great many different years. I'll post another video like this once the first of my community's earthships goes up.

How are the earthships that were built holding up now? How has the humidity control been? Any earthships in the Ozark mountains that anyone is aware of?

Incredible summary! Lacking at 1:04 to mention the pouring of concrete also in cisterns place. The rest, brillant moments of the timeline

Full of info thanks! Just wish it went a tiny bit slower to read all and look at the pictures

Adjust the play speed of the video. There should be three little dots at the top right of your video screen. One of the options shown is playback speed. I’d suggest reducing speed by half. NOTE. change it back when finished before watching other videos.

Me, too. I am looking forward to the next one we build --and to the planned neighborhood of them.

The concept is great although very labour intensive. Material choice and structural design to fit your location needs to come first.

How do you decide what to substitute for materials based on your locational needs/area?

Can you tell us a ballpark of what it cost? How hard was it to get permits in Normandy? I imagine dampness is a problem with the climate. Any issues with it since building in terms of damp?
@AustinBuntonDesign
@AustinBuntonDesign 2 года назад
The cost is usually a lot less than a normal house. It depends on how much material you get donated or find recycled. Some people have made earthships at nearly no cost other than time. I have not done work in France, so I am unsure about permit requirements in Normandy. Dampness has not been an issue in the builds I have been in. There is always a simple modification that can be made for each climate zone. I recommend checking with someone from Earthship Academy about specific technical questions. I have helped build them, but I am not yet an expert in all areas of their design and construction.

The earth between the tires and the full outside needs a layer of plastic to stay dry. If its wet it looses alot of insulation which is the point of the earth wrap on 3 sides. Same with houses. some stuff is meant to be wet some isnt.

What climate are you located?
@AustinBuntonDesign
@AustinBuntonDesign 4 года назад
tropical, wet and dry; rainy season during Summer

I was just wondering how hard it would be to keep it cool in Texas heat.
@AustinBuntonDesign
@AustinBuntonDesign 4 года назад
@@donnieprice1158, the Earthship design results in a steady mild temperature throughout the seasons. Earthships in very hot parts of NM are still an ideal temperature inside. This is because of their skylight vents, geothermal cooling pipes, and other features. I am sure you will have success keeping yours the temperature you want.
@donnieprice1158
@donnieprice1158 4 года назад
Yes, I understand the concept, I've just seen many reports that they are a lot easier to keep warm than to keep cool.
@AustinBuntonDesign

One thing you could try is getting blackout cloth to roll down like shades over the inner greenhouse windows, leaving the outer greenhouse windows free to take in light for the plants while the rest of the Earthship stays shady and cooler. Some people also put in cooling tubes under the floor, or a normal A/C as a backup.

What?
@bobjoatmon1993

Why did I down check this: Because 3 seconds is not enough time to look at a picture and absorb anything. I read 100 pages an hour on average so I'm a FAST reader and I couldn't read most of the captions before the picture cycled to the next one and look at the picture too. Complicated by having to quickly scan to find the text because they were in different places on the pictures (admittedly because they needed to be) before try to read it then try to find what was described in the picture. So it WASN'T very informative because the editor chose to quick a cycle.
