made a similar one for wild turkeys. the concept of the cap cut across middle to prevent them from pulling the grain out works really well to prevent deer getting their noses in and sucking out all the cracked corn. the raccoons have ready raided the wild turkey's nests this year and struggling to keep the turkey's numbers up. I went with 3" elbows {help keep deer out} and now just have to trap some raccoons who will be attracted to the site. great idea and thank you sir.
that's actually a great idea Brad thanks for sharing. We also have lots of turkey around here but they often don't stay. Maybe they're just passing through, a feeder might keep them around. Chad.
@@HiddenSpringFarm your welcome, got a small chicken house and put up a 6 ft. Chain link fence put a bird proof top on the entire fence and added a low voltage electric fence 3 ft. From ground ! Now I’m gonna build no waste feeder like your’s ! Appreciate your video!

Alfonso Valdez thanks bud 🙏 it’s really working well too. It holds over 3 bags of feed and saves me from feeding my ducks everyday. They just eat what they want and it keeps the feed dry from the weather. It’ll work for chickens too.
Great idea! The only thing is that I like my ducks or Muscovite’s to graze and only feed them so much a day usually once a day in summer. Maybe twice in winter. So if they always have food available it seems they will eat so much more and it would cost a lot more in grain. Thoughts on that?
It may differ breed to breed and muscovies are a larger duck, but I don’t notice that our khaki Campbells eat more. The bin is useful to me cause I fill it one every 6 weeks and they waste less. We’re free ranging them in our orchard all day everyday during the non-snow months and they are incredible foragers so it helps fertilize the orchard plus keep the insects down. In addition the food helps to get the ducks back in to go to bed in the evenings. I don’t find our kc overeat, once they’re full the stop eating. It works well for us.
There are small amount that they drag out to the ground but so much better with them only putting their heads in there. Plus I love that I only have to add feed almost 2 months.
It’s definitely a huge success. I use it for my ducks and this feeder does three things for me. 1. I fill with 3 bags of feed once in 2 months so less work for me on the daily. 2. Keep feed protected from the weather. 3. Reduces the mess that birds make with their feed. ✅
Hi Julie, honestly this unit has only been in my run and haven't had too many issues with the rodents, maybe cause of my security apron around the ground of the run. It would be easy enough to buy a similar cap though, I would just buy a bigger size and pop them on over the holes. It's a good point though cause those pests can just steal all the feed and make a mess eh. Overall the feeder is working out great, I only fill it every 6-8 weeks and it holds over 3 bags of feed. How many inches from the bottom of the garbage bucket you made the holes 🕳? I would like to know, please. We are in the process to change the feeders of our flock because is a terrible waste mess all over . Thanks you 💙
Good question but to make it easy I just put together the pvc elbows (dry fit) then I put it inside and marked it. Once I trimmed the inside pvc it just rests on the bottom. My experience with this feeder is very positive too. There is still a bit of waste though but it minimizes it a lot more than standard feeders. The pvc size I used was 4 inches cause I’m using it for ducks and geese, but it can be done in a smaller can if needed with a smaller pvc. Good luck let me know if you need anything else. Chad.
