Homemade, Homebuilt, DIY… whatever you want to call it! We're building this bad boy 100% from scratch!
In this episode I am going to show you how I make an Offroad tire carrier capable of holding a 40" tire! Follow along with me as I go over the basic techniques to fabricate a project like this. Manifesting something from nothing is extremely rewarding and I recommend building these kinds of projects to everyone who has ever considered it.

Nice build Nate . I'm loving the construction sections of this channel . I like the way you break things down so regular Joe can understand . Crucially I don't feel like you talk down to your viewers treating them like total dumb-asses . It's also nice to hear a "professional" You Tuber (I don't know if you count yourself as a professional Nate ? No insult intended .) openly admit they don't have a skill set and there's something they can't do and need to learn . I have a feeling there maybe some "I did it this way guys and it was wrong." , "This is the way I should have done it." sections in your upcoming videos as we come along for the ride and learn new skills with you . Thanks for the hard work in creating this content . It's appreciated . Fattrucker

Thank you for taking the time to comment! I suppose I could considered a professional RU-vidr😂. I try to to just be myself up here. I work up as good a video as my current skills allow and hope for a positive response. Glad you noticed that I'm not trying to portray myself as anything better than I am. Lots more content in the future, and I'll definitely try to include even more things that I've learned (mistakes aswell) in my upcoming videos! Glad to have you as part of the bleepinjeep community buddy👍

Great video. Something to not is that dissimilar metals corrode eachother just by touching. For instance if you put steal rivets on a piece of aluminum it will rust the rivets.

No it's not a false fear. The craziest thing I've ever seen is putting a ten foot 1/4" square tubing in a vice about 6 inches from the end. Take a oxy act torch light it and just brush the flame across that 6 inch end and watch the rest of that ten foot piece dance. It shows just how much metal is affected by heat if you don't have good tacks holding it in place and weld it by skipping around. Nice job.

Nice Brake machine. Interesting method to adapt welding the parts together on the floor w/ chalk lines. I know a frame repair guy who does the same when he is straightening chassis/frames on damaged vehicles. Looking forward to your review on that Miller Welder and more about your welding skills as they improve with "Alu minum" !

Should have put old glory up top in the opening, made out of aluminum of course. Not sure why you wouldn’t put your plate where the flag is now. It wouldn’t get banged up. Otherwise, beautiful. Come hang in spokompton on the east side. I’ll find ya some places to wheel.

I would be more worried about the strength of stainless. Somewhere between grade 2 and grade 5 on a rig that takes that many hits with a wheel that heavy.

Linear expansion (metal expanding or contracting) is a legitimate fear to have. I've tested a metal rod expanding a couple mm after being set in hot water for 10 minutes. After sometime it went back to it's original state.
@AndrewBrowner
@AndrewBrowner 5 лет назад
yep for sure, especially in welding things can really pull and twist and pop even when youre being cautious of it.. i think nate had the concept for controlling it a little back wards though, should take on as many pieces/supports as possible then finish weld everything while jumping around to different pieces(dont weld left to right or top to bottom on the entire piece) also letting it cool overnight doesnt really change the end product when pulling it off the temp frame as it cools itll build tensions in the metal and when you undo the tac welds itll spring in or out some no helping that but if welded properly little to no change should occur
@mbaker33
@mbaker33 5 лет назад
Nate, that is awesome! I've been wanting to do something similar, but am not really sure how to best support it structurally. I would love to see how you did the attachment points, surely it's more than just what is external to the Jeep. There has to be some internal support as well? Great job, and keep it up. I'll be coming back to this video for sure!

Turned out great man. I'm sure you're aware, but I thought I'd mention it just in case you're not - you said a couple times aluminum is nice because it doesn't rust. It will corrode though, if left exposed to the elements, in a bunch of different ways. And if left untreated, can be pretty catastrophic to a part. But again, nice work on the tire carrier - it looks awesome.

That's a really heavy tire mounted to aluminum? I question the integrity of that approach. I hate to be Debbie Downer here but aluminum does not do well with continued vibration and shock load that you get off road. I suppose time will tell but bumper mount is well tested, especially for a tire that size.

this is great and all, but would be more helpful if it was something built for us who do not have heavily modified jeeps with full shop like you, but something closer to aftermarket steel bumper tire carrier mod..thing

I know this is an older video, but damn that's a good looking tire carrier! I'll have to steal some design elements for sure.
