I am glad you got something from my videos. At the time of filming this, I was working on their filtration. I have gotten it figured out now.

Mine seemed to like the ground soil best & lots of room with slightly damp soil

Hi, I'm seeking your advice on me getting 2 pet turtles, firstly I have some apprehension in regards they would be my first pets and I'm worried as a person living by myself I would struggle in their upkeep, such as how often would I have clean out their tank and what duration could I realistically be away from them before they would struggle without my being there, I'm thinking about days! Thanks for any reply and your uploads, I see you have a love in what you do!

Hello, I am so sorry for the late reply. I have been so very busy the last three weeks. As far as how many days you could be away, I want to say it could be like five days maximum without being fed. You would not want to do that too often. I generally feel comfortable leaving my animals for a weekend without too much worry. Upkeep really depends on the type of turtles, the amount of filtration, and the size of the tank. If you have two turtles in a one hundred and twenty five gallon with good filtration, you are probably set to only having to do upkeep and water changes once a month. I am very busy, and that is generally what I get away with. The bigger the enclosure, the less work you will have to put in, and honestly it pays off in the long run.

@@DIYReptiles Hi, thanks for getting back to me, its appreciated. Your answers have helped me in thinking this is workable for me, the last thing I wanted to do was get in over my head but I feel there is scope for me to do this, I'll do some more research into what tanks and turtles I'm interested in and go from there. Thanks again, Chris

Adult turtles really only need to eat every 2-3 days anyway. they won't die if you went away for the week. Musk turtles are probably the most reasonable otherwise you'll need a really large aquarium (or 2) for 2 turtles in case they don't get along. Do a lot of research first. It's a very long term commitment and even with all the information out you won't know everything. Also mind startup cost, potential vet bills, potential need for a permit. I'm not trying to dissuade you bc out of most pets they really can be the easiest to care for just know what you're getting into.

I have a pond with guppies, one turtle, a bunch of plants and a cinder block with a lava rock (for basking). No pump, no filtration. Just the plants, cinder block and lava rock. Water is clear and doesn't smell. I only do a quarter water change (if that) once a week.
