The people who complain about those tools are the ones not making the things in the video. All woodworking can be made with a hammer and chisel but no one will spend the days to build a single cabinet. Tools decrease the time spent to make the things, which means more items made, which means more income.
@yorgborg7899
@yorgborg7899 Год назад
@@jetah50 while true, to someone who is new to building anything, its rather daunting and off putting to see the tutorial/guide use tools you don’t have. Personally I have no succh issue as im more than handsy when it comes to jury rigging something to achieve the desired result. But to a complete beginner, I can see why they would want the guide to have the same stuff as them, as it would help inspire confidence.
@davemoney6713
@davemoney6713 Год назад
@@yorgborg7899 true, it’s also about accuracy. I build a lot of stuff but, I’m often curious about what sort of accuracy I can reasonably achieve using novice level tools (before purchasing them). Vids like this one, saves folks the time of trial and error. Specifically, in this case, I was wondering if the track saw was worth buying to build my kitchen cabinets, if I should use my crappy table saw, or just buy my cabinets already made.

For the record regarding "toe kicks". I never, ever cared about them until I encountered a bathroom vanity with no toe kick. You don't realize how "close" you actually get to the sink to brush your teeth, wash your hands, etc etc. I kept kicking the base of the cabinet, stubbing my toe, and feeling like I was too far from the sink. Toe kicks are very much something you take for granted until it's gone.

I started our kitchen cabinet build yesterday based on your video of garage cabinets. 10 base cabinets (7 24” and 3 30”) and 8 wall cabinets. I have zero experience building cabinets but I feel confident I’ll be able to replicate your methods and results. Much slower but still get it done. I purchased a WEN track saw with a 110” track. This works very well for me. Thinking about Shaker style doors and drawers. All base cabinets will be a 3 drawer (1 small, 2 medium) and wall cabinets will be traditional doors. Your door and drawer style are appealing as well. I love the finished with all the handles running a clean line throughout the entire kitchen. I’ll update as progress allows. Thx so much for sharing your knowledge and techniques. Doing it ourselves is saving us well over $10,000 just in cabinet costs alone. 😊

I must congratulate you for your outstanding woodworking programs. Unlike many DIY presenters, you show viewers upfront what the finished item will look like and you continue this excellent practice throughout by showing the item’s major build stages - e.g., what the assembled side, top, bottom, door, drawer, etc. will look like. I, being a fellow Engineer, recognize and attribute your exceptional presentation skills and common-sense manner of delivery to your education and innate intelligence. Great job girl. You are a breath of fresh air compared to others who must think that we viewers have never seen wood being cut, planed or shaped before. We watch because we want to build things, not because we want to be entertained by cutesy-clever photography.

Shara, the toe kick is designed to allow the front part of you foot to slip under the cabinet and allow you to stand without leaning. This is much easier on your back.

Hey Shara-big kudos on your new home, amazing shop, (like wow girl) AND 100K AND being part of this new Kreg Academy. It’s nice to see someone that works to the bone, get the payoff. Im just so happy for you and I admire your skills in the wood work and I call it. In contrast to my softer friendlier world of of sewing. This is a bumpy, crooked ride. (Cutting straight is so hard!) I am full on stepping into building things myself and at times the process brings me to tears, I usually never cry, omg so weird! I try to remember that I probably wasn’t so great at using a sewing machine at first either, albeit hard to remember as I was 5 when my mom first taught me. I am really interested in the kreg academy, so glad you shared the intro. Take care and relish your success. Thanks for inspiring me in every video. Mary

The material list is super helpful! I just went to home depot today before watching your video, and I was helpless in the lumber section. With your list, I can order them from home, and know how good it looks from your video!

Great job on this current project just like all your others. You're very informative and you know what you're doing. But whenever I make a cabinet. I never have cleats on the inside of the cabinet. I recess them by using a French cleat. For me it's a much cleaner look.

Great build! I did something similar in my garage this week and I noticed you used less pocket holes than me. I may have gone bonkers with mine just in case as it was my first 8ft cabinet.

Great build, enjoyed the video, its quite impressive you don't use any clamps when attaching plywood with pocket hole screws, I heard it slips when inserting screw and recommended to use clamps, I closely observed how you did and it was damn straight every time :-)

Excellent choices in design and material. Your video is straightforward and easy to follow. I love pocket holes in plywood cabinets when you can hide them. I have built several cabinets just like yours. One tiny suggestion for repeated measurements, make and use a "story stick" AKA "story pole". Any scrap that is long enough can be used. Mark all of your repeated dimensions on the scrap and use that as your master ruler. Saves a lot of time when you do identical measurements on multiple pieces.

As far as why there are toe kicks if you've ever tried to stand at a counter that did not have them you understand why you need them. There is just something about that extra two or three inches for your toes to recess into the make it so much more comfortable and natural to stand at not making you bend over and hurting your back. They are not common in some other countries that I've visited and I had back pains after standing at a counter without them for just a few minutes. It's amazing how you take these little things for granted and don't even think about them.
