That method is a whole lot easier than putting dados in the side of the boards.

I found your pattern to be very simple and used the information on some NUC bottom boards. Due to lumber prices, I used 5/8 x 5-1/2 cedar fence boards to make the bottom, used a flap disc on an angle grinder to rub off the rough lumber on the top side. Much easier than cutting a groove in the side boards.. I was kinda ill to learn I have three different size NUC boxes and not really interchangeable between pieces.

Great bottom board build. Did my first one the other day and wish I had seen your video first. I was cutting dados and rabbets. Going to build yours for my 2nd hive now that I've seen how simple it is. Thanks.!!

Thanks for the video, quick question do you know if small gaps in the wood is ok? Boards were not perfectly square leaving less than 1/8 gap between a bottom board. I think that i will use plywood on my next ones.
@pathofthebee2873
@pathofthebee2873 2 года назад
That small of a gap will be no problem.... the bees will fill it in.

Thanks...great and simple tutorial, have you maybe any idea how to diy some combination, something between solid and screen bottom board.. thanks again 🍺😀🍻🐝
@pathofthebee2873
@pathofthebee2873 4 года назад
If you noticed that I used 3 boards that are the bottom... use 2 instead that are about 6 inches wide on each end and then fill the gap with your screen. That is just an idea, I don't use screen bottoms. Good luck and Bee Good!

Hi Charlie what kind paint is the best to use so the chemicals in paint would not affect bees…would you prime it also? Thank you!
@pathofthebee2873
@pathofthebee2873 9 месяцев назад
I use the best quality house paint that I can find and let it cure for a couple of weeks before I use it. I use the paint that is one coat paint and primer in one but apply two coats.

Is there a reason not to use pneumatic tools? Thank you.
@pathofthebee2873
@pathofthebee2873 6 месяцев назад
No. Air tools and glue will work fine. I enjoy being a craftsman and avoid air tools unless the job is too overwhelming, but that is just me.

Hello Charlie, nice design! I prefer the pine too. I have predominantly screened bottom boards, but I really want to experiment with the solids, l think I'm going to use your design. Have you thought about using Tite-Bond 3 also?

Tite-Bond 3 is a good product and would work well in this application. I have had good luck not using any glue. The wood rotting if I don't keep the paint on has been the only real problem I have had. The Tite-Bond seems like a good idea though for the long run....

Is this for 10 frame hive body? or other? Seems to me that matters enough to mention.
@pathofthebee2873
@pathofthebee2873 3 года назад
Everything I do is for a standard Langstroth hive which means 10 frame. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
